If you are needing to install a trailer brake controller and your F-150 has just the factory 4-flat connector, you will need to install the Wiring Kit # 5506 since you already have the Hopkins Adapter # 37185. This will include everything that is needed to install the brake controller and connect the additional wires for the 7-way connector that is needed. I have attached the installation details and a helpful video demonstration for you to review.
The additional wires referenced in your question may not match up color to color with the OEM harness in your 2016 Ford F-150. The white wire from the Hopkins Adapter is the ground wire, the blue wire is for brake, the black is the hot lead/12V power wire and the purple wire is for auxiliary.
I recommend testing the wires in your F-150 for function using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. Based on my research, it looks like the brake switch wire in your F-150 may be a purple and white wire.
I have also attached a helpful brake controller installation article for you to look at.
