All of the trailer wiring kits we offer for your 2012 Jeep Liberty will require you to run a power wire up to the positive post of the vehicle battery. This ensures that the amperage draw of your trailer lights does not short out anything on the vehicle's taillight wiring. The install becomes more involved but it really is worth it since you don't have to worry about damaging your vehicle.
Since we have the best luck with the Tekonsha brand wiring kits the part # 118554 would be the kit I would recommend the highest for your vehicle. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.
