Question:
Could you please clarify/inform me of how much weight i would be able to carry using a class 1 hitch c11158 and a cargo carrier C18145? hitch states the tongue weight is 200 but the cargo carrier states it has a 500 lbs capacity. So is 200lbs the max or 500? Could someone please help and explain as Im thinking of purchasing both. Thank you.

For your 2016 Ford Focus, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Class I - 1-1/4" # C11158. This trailer hitch receiver is rated for a 200 lb tongue weight and a 2000 lb towing weight. This is a very well-made hitch that will allow you to carry a bike rack or cargo carrier. Your owner's manual does not give weight restrictions and states you are never to tow with this vehicle, so you will be limited to accessories.
The 17x46 Curt Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Steel - 500 lbs, # C18145, you mentioned will work with this hitch receiver, however your load capacity will be limited by the hitch rating. This carrier weighs 29 lbs so you will be limited to 171 lbs cargo.
I recommend using a lock like the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 2-5/8" Span, # 63232, to reduce rattle and secure your investment. You may be interested in a cover like the etrailer.com Rubber Hitch Cover for 1-1/4" Trailer Hitches - Qty 1 # 22281 when you don't have the carrier installed.
