My hitch and wiring adapter arrived promptly and in good condition. The installation of the hitch went smoothly and with no unexpected surprises. The installation of the wiring adapter was easier than the instructiions indicated, as there was a twelve volt power source right next to the driver side tail light assembly, eliminating the need to run a power wire to the battery in the front of the car. This was an install on a 2012 Ford Focus 5 door

thanks for writing the review. Were there mounting holes already, or did you have to drill them? Thanks!

There are a total of 6 attachment points. 4 of them are pre-existing weld nuts in the frame that the hardware just threads into. There will be one hole, on each frame rail, that will need to be drilled. Check out the instructions link on the page for more information on the drilling, specifically Step 2.

Hitch is good quality but a bit tricky install. Specifically by one person. Wiring harness is good again just install is lengthy by one person. Hitch about 90 minutes and harness 2 to 3 hours.

by:
2014 Ford Focus

Fairly easy to install, even by myself. Yup, no help needed. I used jack stands to hold the hitch, and the car was only about 3" off the ground. [I have ramps made from 2X lumber.] It worked well. The only issue was a slight misalignment when initially mounting the hitch with M8 bolts to mark the holes for drilling the 15/32 hole. I had to use a drift pin to get the last M8 bolt in. It was only off by a hair, it was no big deal.
It was very easy to mark & drill the 15/32 holes. The fish wire method works great to get the spacers & carriage bolts fished in. Only a small amount needed to be ground around the access hole. I was a bit concerned about pushing the carriage bolts back through the holes when raising the hitch again. But it was no problem, hitch went in easily.
Torqued all the fasteners and double checked them again. All-in-all it took about 90 minutes doing it alone. I'm sure it could have taken about half the time with help. Shipping was fast and free. I plan to use the hitch with a bike rack, not towing.

Fairly easy to install (As long as you have all the right tools). The reason I got this hitch for my car was So I can have a bike rack on the outside of my car, and it serves that purpose well.

by:

your service was excellent. I called in my order as i did not have a secure internet site to give credit card info. right from first contact, to shipping to actually receiving my order everything was as stated it would be. I knew exactly what day the order was to arrive. I live in Canada and the same parts would have cost me more than double this amount. With price, free shipping and excellent service. What more could you ask for. I have and will keeping letting friends know what a great experience this was
. A big thanks to Steven C for all your help.

Well designed and installation worked perfectly, as shown in the instructions. Instruction clarity could be improved by providing them in color.
Packaging is a failure! Box was received with a big hole in the side and the hitch was sticking out of the box about two feet. Luckily there was no damage to the hitch.

Easy to install on a 2012 Ford Focus. Everything was included. Took about 2 hours total. After one year, still working great.

by:

The receiver was straightforward to install. Often aftermarket products don't even fit the vehicle it was designed for, no a problem here. I would recommend some mechanical inclination for the installer, or atleast some thoughtful research and a bit of confidence. Be sure to read the description, directions, and know what your vehicle is capable of. It was installed with just one person. Considering I have a compact car, I need to be mindful of loading/weight of my trailer (it is a small 3.5'x5') and speed/distance traveled, but it has taken the place of a truck for 95% of my needs. Customer service is very comprehensive-- they even send you a one year follow-up. It is everything that it promises to be. Highly recommend.

by:
2015 Ford Fusion

Very fast delivery. I self installed using the instructions furnished and the very informative online video. I am 80 years old and did the installation alone using ramps to get under my car. Since I have had two rotator cuff surgeries, I needed help to lift the hitch into place. I used a floor jack and balanced the hitch on the lift plate of the jack and secured it with a block of wood and bungee cord to secure it. Every thing went well and the hitch looks great. This is the second hitch I have installed using ETRAILER instructions. My previous hitch was for a 2015 Ford Fusion and it also worked as expected. I enjoy dealing with ETRAILER.

Dodge Grand Caravan

I am very pleased with the hitch and ease of installation. To date, I have installed hitches on 5 vehicles for myself, my wife and daughter, including a Dodge pick-up and Caravan, Nissan Versa, Dodge Dart, and now this Ford Focus. We use the hitches mostly for hitch-mounted bike racks. Installing this hitch on my Ford Focus was one of the easier installations. The only problem I encountered was the bolt head was just slightly too big in diameter to fit into the access hole on the vehicle frame, so I had to grind about 1/16 inch off one side of the bolt head with a bench grinder to enable it to fit through the access hole. I have purchased all of these hitches from etrailer.com and I have always been 100% satisfied with their product, free delivery, and installation instructions. I wouldn't buy a trailer hitch anywhere else!

by:

Fits my make and model. Ford Focus 18’. Feels snug and I’ve had no issues using it with my bike hitch. The torque spec are completely wrong and I sheared a bolt during installation using a torque wrench… so ignore the torque specs and just tighten till it feels secure.

by:

Hitch was well constructed and finished.
Installation
was quick and easy because everything fit perfectly. It will be used for pulling a small trailer, mounting a bike rack and mounting a step with light mainly for appearance when not towing or packing bikes.

by:
2012 Ford Focus

Directions that were supplied are OK but it was the YouTube video that made the installation much easier. I installed this hitch by myself using ramps. It would have been much easier with another set of hands but I just used blocks of wood to hold up one side while I worked on the other side. Highly recommend you look at the video first.

by:
2015 Ford Focus

I was impressed with how easy it was to install. It really did only take 20 minutes. I did have a dremel to enlarge the hole and I good uni bit. I am using the hitch for my bike rack and it is working great. Please consider a 2 in receiver option so I have more bike rack choices. I bought this hitch cause it was made in the USA. Thanks Curt for building your products here!

by:

It has been working as intended, I carry all my 3 bicycles on the trailer hitch with a thule bike rack.

by:
Ford Focus

Still holds up great after a year (and a Michigan winter). I only use the hitch on my Ford Focus for a bike rack. Super easy to install. No special equipment required. Maybe some patience if you don't have floor jacks.

by:
2018 Ford Focus

etrailer really stepped up. They replaced a receiver and harness that UPS lost. UPS kept putting off issue, etrailer is an awesome company to start with, but for sure put customer service at top of their list.

by:
2013 Ford Focus

Overall, the hitch was easy to install. I did have a slight problem enlarging the access holes as it shows in the installation video, using the two steel blocks and a prybar. Other than that, smooth sailing. The hitch installation is clean and is almost completely hidden. Very happy with everything.

I have a great solution for you for a bike rack with a ramp. Unfortunately, Saris does not make a ramp for the Saris MTY Bike Rack SA4031. We also do not have a bike rack that has a ramp for a single bike. With that being said, we do have a 2-bike option that comes with a ramp. For that route, I recommend the Yakima OnRamp # Y96FR (for 1-1/4" hitches) or the # Y88DJ (for 2-inch hitches).
