Brake Controller and Transmission Cooler for 2014 Ford F-150 4x4 Towing Camper

Published 08/30/2016

Question:

Ive had this awesome truck for a year. It is primarily used for hauling a 6,000 lb + travel trailer that we haul 10-12 times a year for short distances, and occasionally for longer distances but usually broke up by no more than 3-5 hours a day travel with several off days in between travel Questions: Does it come standard with a tranny cooler and a brake controller? If not, do you think they are necessary? Ive seen that recommended in a couple of forums. As you can see, it needs the air help bags Im pursuing now. Im trying to do what I need to do to not kill the truck with our rving expeditions.

For towing a 6,000 lb trailer I would highly recommend a brake controller and transmission cooler for your 2014 Ford F-150. The controller will allow your towing setup to stop safely in an emergency situation and will take wear and tear off of your truck's brakes.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. To install the controller all you need is the install harness part # 22292. See install video for more info on this.

For a transmission cooler the bigger the better basically. As long as you can fit the part # D13504 which measures 11" Wide x 12" tall x 7/8" deep this would be your best option to prolong the life of your transmission.

For a Firestone air suspension kit confirmed to fit your truck the part # F2525 would be the correct kit to use.
