Tips to Keep a Proportional Brake Controller Level When Installing

Question:

Hello experts, I just need some clarification on electric brake controller. It is clear to me that something inside the brake controller after instalation that usually face you up must be leveled I guess to a horizontal position to make the controller work the right way. Using the knob level, When do you know the brake controller is in the correct level position?

Electric proportional brake controllers are required to be manually leveled by hand according to the parameters outlined in the installation instructions. Not all brake controllers have the same mounting range so you need to make sure you follow the instructions.

One thing proportional brake controllers have in common is that in addition to the specific mounting range, they also cannot be tilted left or right or lean to one side or the other. They need to be mounted in the direction of travel. If mounted improperly, some brake controllers will show an error message or code on the display. Others will just not work properly if at all.

Time delay brake controllers are another story altogether. As long as you have easy access to the controls, they can be mounted any which way. I have included a link to our brake controller FAQ article which has additional information on both types of brake controllers.
