Will Thule Adventurer Cargo Box Fit Factory Roof Rack on a 2016 Subaru Outback
Published 08/02/2016 >
Question:
Hi, I have a 20 year old ? Thule Adventurer which I had attached to my old 2002 volvo XC70 using Thule bars etc to attach the carrier the factory installed rails. I now have a 2016 Subaru Outback 2.5 Limited which has a built in rack with bars that swing out from the rails as needed. I guess the first question I have is how best to attach the carrier to the new Subaru Roof Rack. I am concerned that the bars that swing out to hold the carrier are 1 wide and 2 might not align with the predrilled holes in the Thule Adventurer. The distance between the two bars seems OK Any suggestions?

The Thule Adventurer attaches to roof rack crossbars using hardware # TH04997. If you do not have the hardware purchase kit # TH04997 as a replacement. This hardware will fit around bars up to 3-3/4 inches wide.
You can measure the center to center distance between one set of mounting holes and another set, front to back, to determine if the bar spread on your 2016 Subaru Outback is going to work. If not you could drill holes in the box to accommodate the bar spacing. I recommend patching the old holes with a product called JB Weld available at auto parts stores.
