Can a Yakima SkyBox NX Skinny and FrontLoader Fit on the Same Roof Rack?

Updated 08/25/2026 | Published 08/18/2026

Question:

I am looking at the feasibility of pairing the SkyBox NX Skinny with a roof bike rack such as the Yakima FrontLoader. What is the minimum crossbar width needed to accommodate those two items? I have a 2022 Honda HR-V fitted with Yakima SightLine crossbars with usable space measuring 37 1/2” in the front and 35 1/8” in the rear. Is this combination possible with my current crossbar setup?

Hey Adam, thanks for reaching out. Yes, I think you can make the Yakima SkyBox NX Skinny # Y93QD and FrontLoader # Y02103 work together on your 2022 Honda HR-V. The SkyBox NX Skinny is 26-1/2" wide and the FrontLoader takes up about 7" of crossbar space, putting you around 33-1/2" total. With 37-1/2" of usable space up front and 35-1/8" in the rear, you have enough bar to fit both. The rear bar is definitely the tight one, with roughly 1-5/8" left over.

I recommend sliding the SkyBox as far to one side as the mounting clamps allow and putting the FrontLoader on the opposite side. The biggest thing to watch is clearance between the SkyBox, FrontLoader hardware, and SightLine towers. Based on your measurements, I am comfortable with this setup, and the NX Skinny is exactly the box I like for this application because it was designed to leave room beside it for a bike, kayak, or other roof-mounted gear.

What bike are you carrying, and what goes in the box?
