Why Do Trailer Hitches for 2016 Honda Pilot Sit Low

I do not like either hitch as they are way too low and they definitely will hit ground when you go uphill. On the picture it looks like part of bumper can be removed. Is there hitch that installs there instead of being under bumper?

For your 2016 Honda Pilot the only hitch options we have are ones like the Curt hitch part # C13146 which hangs below the rear fascia. I understand not wanting a hitch that sits super low but hitch manufacturers can only work with how the vehicle is designed. And most people don't like to trim the lower fascia of the vehicle to install the hitch so they designed it to fit right below the rear bumper like the picture I attached.
