Question:

I have 2016 ram 5500 I plug in my 7 pin and my hydraulic brakes dont work i hear the actuator come on but no brakes and if I use the brake controller when I squeeze it my side lights flash so I hooked up a different truck same 5500 ram and does same thing but same guy hook up both 7 pins on both trucks any ideas and brakes work when I hooked up a 2015 ram 5500 just not my 2016

It sounds like the 7-Way connectors are not pinned out in a standard configuration. I have included a picture that shows the vehicle side functions of a 7-Way trailer connector. Use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to determine the functions of your 7-Way and then change the pin out on your 7-Way accordingly.

Electric over hydraulic trailer brakes will only work with certain brake controllers. If your 2016 Ram 5500 has the factory brake controller then make sure it is set to the electric over hydraulic mode. If you are using an aftermarket controller then it will need to be one that is compatible with electric over hydraulic braking systems such as the P2 # 90885 or P3 # 90195. When put in electric over hydraulic mode either of these controllers will be compatible.
