can you use a lithium battery for a trailer break away system ? Will it charge ok off the vehicle charging system ?

Lithium batteries require a higher charging voltage than standard batteries which a 12 volt trailer accessory source would not be able to provide. So while a lithium battery would do a great job it wouldn't be able to be charged when towing so a standard battery like the part # 3801250 would be your best option.
