Question:
I need a hitch for my 2000 Excursion 4x4 7.3 liter that is rated for 18000 pounds it should be a class 5 hitch do you have one

Expert Reply:
The 2000 Ford Excursion is actually rated for 10,000 pounds gross trailer weight. The 18,000 pounds is the gross combined weight rating or GCWR. The GCWR is the most that the Excursion and trailer can weigh including cargo, passengers, and fuel.
So the Excursion cannot tow 18,000 pounds and its weight plus the trailers weight cannot exceed 18,000 pounds. The trailer can weigh up to 10,000 pounds total but no more.
With that said the highest capacity trailer hitch we have for your vehicle is # TLF1006 rated for 17,000 pounds gross trailer weight but you would be limited to 10,000 pounds. So I recommend going with Curt Class IV hitch # C14011 rated for 12,000 pounds since there is no need to pay for additional weight capacity you can't use.
I have included a link to all of the ball mounts for 2 inch trailer hitches that are rated for 10,000 pounds. If your Excursion did not come with a factory trailer connector then you can use # 118344 to add a 4-Way flat at the back.
