4-Way and 7-Way Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 2009 Acura MDX
Updated 09/09/2015 | Published 09/08/2015 >
Question:
I have a couple of questions regarding before adding a wiring harness to a trailer with surge brakes to a 2009 Acura MDX: 1. Is there an OEM like wiring kit that already includes both a 7 pin and 4 pin connector? The OEM version includes both and includes multiple relays and fuses and a controller that wire to the driver side, rear fuse box. 2. Is the brake control wire used if the trailer has surge brakes? If not, is that taken care of by the trailer connector, e.g. no active wire in the trailer connector. 3. If I do need to run the battery charge line all the way to the battery, is that done beneath the car? Is it simply wire tied along the way avoiding hot and sharp surfaces? Is the wire tough enough to withstand salt, weather, rocks? Thanks,

The Curt trailer wiring harness part # C56038 has been confirmed as a fit for your 2009 Acura MDX and does include the needed harnesses and relays for it to plug right into your vehicle's wiring. We do not sell a version of this that also provides a 7-way, but if you are towing a trailer with surge brakes most likely you wouldn't need a 7-way. If you really do want a plug in version that has both the 7-way and 4-way active then the dealer option would be the way to go.
Otherwise you would need the # 37185 as well since that will convert the 4-way to a 7-way. The additional wires would need to get run on your vehicle as needed. You wouldn't need the blue brake wire circuit since you have surge brakes, but if your trailer has a reverse lockout you would need to run the purple wire to the reverse light circuit.
I attached a help article on routing the power wire as well.
