Can a Rubber Pad be Used to Guide a Boat Keel/Hull to Center on a Trailer

Updated 07/27/2015 | Published 07/25/2015

Question:

I am looking for a firm, slick surface pad that would mount to the top of the V shaped cradle boards that center and support the boat bow as the hydrohoist boat lift comes up from the water. The present carpet covered surface provides too much grip and the keel does not always center itself on the v shaped cradle boards. Two questions: 1. Is the surface of this pad slick enough to allow the keel to slide downward and center itself? 2. Will the surface of this pad leave black marks or streaks on the surface of the white fiberglass? 3. If this pad will not work, do you have any other suggestions? The 3inch crossmember pads will not work as they have a lip on both sides to hold the pad on the crossmember. I need a totally flat mounting surface.

A rubber pad would not work due to rubber's friction coefficient. It would likely leave black marks on the surface as well. Carpet is going to be the best option. You might need different carpet such as # CE11349 if yours is worn or gripping too much. Also if the carpet is not tight enough around the board then it can bunch up and cause you problems.
