Black Sliding Ladder Rack for a 2027 Ram 2500

Updated 10/27/2026 | Published 10/23/2026

Question:

I have a new 2027 Ram 2500 with the 6-1/2' bed and no RamBox. I use my truck for construction work and regularly carry ladders and 16-foot lumber. I'm looking for a black sliding ladder rack so I can adjust it for different loads or move it out of the way when I don't need it. Would the TracRac SR work, and do you think I need the cantilever extension?

Hey Mike, congratulations on the new truck! Yes, the Thule TracRac SR is a great fit for your 2027 Ram 2500 with the 6-1/2' bed and no RamBox. Since you're regularly hauling 16' lumber, I do recommend the version with the cantilever extension for additional support over the cab. You can choose from the following:

-Thule TracRac SR Sliding Ladder Rack - Black # TH34FR69NX

-Thule TracRac SR Sliding Ladder Rack with Cantilever - Black # TH34FR79NX

Both have a 1,250 lb capacity and have a no drill installation. The uprights slide along the rails so you can adjust their position for different loads, and you can remove them when you need the bed completely open. The cantilever adds that additional support point over the cab for longer materials, making it the better choice for your work.

Are you planning to keep the rack installed year-round, or will you be removing it between jobs?

I also plan on towing a fifth wheel with this truck when we're not working. Can I slide the uprights forward or remove them so they won't interfere with the trailer?

@MikeR yes, you can slide the uprights along the base rails or remove them completely when you're towing your fifth wheel. You'll want to make sure you have enough clearance between the trailer and any remaining rack components, especially when turning. That way you can use your Ram for work during the week and towing on the weekends.
