Published 07/23/2015

Question:

1977 travel queen on a 440 dodge frame the frame is rather crowded with fuel tank and compartment boxes leaving little room for that 9in mounting plate i might get it mounted behind the front bumper, one on each side of frame about 3 feet apart. why does the opperation sheet say do not use for leveling. im not going to lift the tires off the ground, i just want raise the front enough to level the floor

To answer the last question first, a stabilizer jack such as # JSC-30 would be used until there was just enough tension to keep the trailer or RV from rocking. For actual lifting you would need a different device. So assuming that the RV was level these stabilizers would help prevent it from rocking back and forth or side to side (depending on where they were mounted) while you move around inside.

If you were to try to lift weight with them you would have a very hard time because it just isn't designed for that purpose. I have had customers say that no matter what they try they cannot get similar stabilizers to lift weight.

For leveling the simplest solution is to use some Ultra-Fab Leveling Blocks, # UF48-979051. This is a 10 pack, each leveler offers 1 inch of lift and they can be stacked.

As far as where you can mount stabilizer jacks the frame is the best choice since it is supporting most of the RV. But if there isn't space then another metal component such as the bumper structure could work. Avoid attaching them to the body, suspension, or axle.
