Cleaning Out Corroded Weldnuts to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2005 Toyota RAV4 or Any Vehicle

Question:
Im trying to mount the trailer hitch to my Rav4 but two of the mounting holes are corroded. Two had bolts in them so they are fine. I bought a tap, but the access is poor so I cant tap new threads. Any suggestions?

Instead of tapping new threads, which should be a last resort only, you can clean out the weldnuts on your 2005 Toyota RAV4. This will take a little extra time and some elbow grease but it is the best way to ensure no damage is done to the vehicle weldnuts.
You will need a stiff wire brush that fits into the holes and some spray lubricant like WD40 or PB Blaster. Liberally spray in the holes and let it soak for about 15 minutes. Then go at it with the wire brush. You may need to repeat this process several times before a bolt can thread in cleanly.
I have included a couple of links that should also help.
