Are Ball Mounts Supposed to Sit Flush With the Hitch They Are Used On

Question:
I just bought a trailer hitch starter kit from Walmart, and the pin hole in the draw bar/ball mount is set pretty far back, maybe about 5 or 6 inches. The pin hole in the receiver is pretty close to the front of the receiver, maybe an inch or two back. If I mount the draw bar/ball mount in the receiver, the draw bar/ball mount sticks out 3 or 4 inches rather than sitting closer to flush with the receiver as I pictured it would. Is this an issue? Did I get the wrong draw bar/ball mount?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Having a longer ball mount wouldn't be a problem at all. The biggest issue you may run into is banging your shins on it as it would stick out further than a shorter one.
Ball mounts don't have to sit flush with the hitch they are installed into so you would be just fine. We even sell super long ball mounts like the part # EA40 which has a distance of 14-5/8 inches from the pin hole to the ball hole.
