Swapping Out P155/80-13 Tires for 5.30-12 Tires on PWC Trailer
Published 02/05/2015 >
Question:
I have access to readily available 5.30-12 tire and rim assembly, may I swap to those from the stock p155/80/r13 that are currently on my trailer?

Expert Reply:
The 5.30-12 wheel/tire combo you referred to would measure about 21 inches in diameter, while a 155/80-13 tire would measure about 21-3/4 inches in diameter. Going with the 5.30-12 tires will lower your ride height by a tiny bit, but not enough to cause any problems. The two are similar enough in size that they should work just fine.
Swapping out to different tires isn't a bad idea. The P155/80-13 tires you're currently using are passenger car tires, which we usually don't recommend for trailers because they're constructed with a thinner sidewall that won't shed heat as readily as a tire constructed specifically for a trailer.
We offer wheel/tire combos in the 5.30-12 tire size, in a 4 on 4 or 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern in B, C or D Load Range mounted on galvanized or painted wheels. You can see what we have available by clicking the provided link.
