I haven't used it yet, so I'm just posting this review to provide my initial impressions. It seems plenty sturdy enough for my needs (my vehicle has a very low tongue weight rating). It came with nyloc nuts rather than the standard nuts shown in the product listing, which is sort of a bad choice unless you want to install this and leave it (which is not the case for me), so I'll likely replace the nuts rather than messing with running those dang nylocs up and down when I install and remove the cargo carrier. Lastly, it seems to me that installing the clamp upside down (i.e., with the nuts on the top) will create a higher stress line across the hitch tube, so even though in my case this thing will not be terribly heavily loaded, I'll install it as shown in the instructions ... it looks like I'll have over 10" of clearance below the end of the threads, so I should be okay.

by:

Great price, great instructions and the hitch is starting to show some rust.
The anti rattle has worked very well.

Occasional lubrication and that’s it.. I can really tighten it down for zero wobble. Compared to a similar product that was included with an e-bike rack, it is of much better quality. The “free” one stripped the threads when I tightened it similarly to the Malone. Worth it, absolutely.

by:

I tow an empty snowmobile trailer to camp for storage and it always had a loud noise coming from the hitch area.Once I installed the anti rattle device the rattling when away. Great product.

by:

There's NO DOUBT that this will remove ALL of the twisting/flopping of the hitch on the trailer hitch of your vehicle. If there's any downside to it at all, it's that it's got to be loosened up, or taken right off, with a wrench for the ballmount to be removed from the vehicle trailer hitch. If you leave your ballmount in the recvr on your vehicle all the time, than this is of no issue, but I just choose to not leave mine in/on the vehicle.

by:

Definitely worth it when you have to use a reducer. I keep a ratchet wrench just for this in my kit. It only takes a minute to install and makes the overall connection much more stable. I’m using it with my Thule bike rack and it doesn’t shake at all. Definitely would without it given I have to use a reducer.

by:

This has taken the 'bounce' out of my bike carrier which had been worrying me due to the wear and tear on both the carrier and the hitch receiver. The only difficulty is reaching over the carrier and under the receiver to tighten the nuts. I tried putting it on up-side-down but it didn't seem to work as well.

by:

Easy to use, works great.
If you have
limited ground clearance at the hitch (like we do, we tow with a Toyota Sienna minivan), install the nuts on top, the "U" part of the bar below.
Also, be sure to grease the threads during installation; a lot of road crud is kicked up onto the hitch.

by:

Tight and snug, definitely helps lift the extender and stabilize bike rack.

by:

Easy to attach. Locks down tight to stop all the shake/rattle from the smaller hitch insert

by:

I put the trailer hitch "tightener" on my distribution hitch that had a lot of movement, the slight 1/16 in movement left/ right /up/ down made a lot of noise and contributed to my trailer swaying. Once I installed it, in under ten minutes, I could not budge the hitch at all making for a nice tight fit, no noise, no added sway. I highly recommend this for anyone hauling heavy trailers for any distance.

It still works great, I never take the hitch off my truck so I do have to check the nuts before towing, but still no shifting of the trailer at all

by:

This product works wonderfully. Easy to install, and completely stopped my hitch rattle.!! I would recommend it to anyone that has that frustrating rattle issue.

Hitch rattling is the worst, Clint! I'm glad that this eliminated that for you :)

Easy to install and solved the rattle problem on the ATV and PU truck while hauling the trailer and bushhog

I can’t believe how much quieter it is pulling my boat now! Very easy installation, less than 5 minutes! You guys need to advertise these more, put them on your front page. I never knew they existed, until my fishing buddy ordered one 2 weeks ago.

by:

The anti rattle device pictured has a 1/2" U-bolt and the plate is 5/16" thick which makes it a very stout (meaning "not flimsy") tool for making the ball mount and receiver hitch into a one piece unit eliminating that clunking and rattling normally heard when starting, stopping and going over bumps. It's another example of how something so simple can be so useful. Since installing it, I've used the trailer on several
runs and no longer have that rattling sound telescoping through the tow vehicle. I do consider it's purchase "money well spent for a quality product".

by:

This is a simple, sturdy, and effective anti-rattle device for a receiver hitch. I found it useful the keep a ratchet wrench and socket handy in my vehicle for when I switch from my hitch ball to my Yakima Bicycle tray type rack, which has it’s own built-in anti-rattle device.

by:

Worked well , easy to install, kept canoe trailer from banging around making noise like I’d lost it !

by:

The team is great to work with and very quick shipping!

by:

Took all the slop out of camper receiver hitch step.

by:

Absolutely does what it says. Just bought a 2023 F-150 and my rattling hitch was driving me crazy! This even stopped the ramming when pulling my Z-8 Nitro LOVE IT and the super nice people at Etrailers

by:

The items were very good but I didn’t notice out of stock . So long delivery time. My fault.

by:

Definitely mount it upside down as noted in other people's comments, otherwise it will scrape on pavement when making steep transitions at parking lot entrances--the threaded tips got scrapped up making it too difficult to remove the nuts. Honestly, when the cargo carrier is fully loaded, you probably won't notice much rattling with or without this anyway because of the force on hitch.

by:

Stopped rattling hitch. Very Pleased

  • Recommended Anti-Rattle Device for a Hollywood Racks Destination Bike Rack
Thanks for the information Tricia. I have a solution for you but the Gen-Y Anti-Rattle Clamp for 2" Hitch Receivers item # GY88XR is not going to be the best option with the Hollywood Racks Destination Bike Rack item # HLY94FR. There's a bit of gap that's going to keep the Gen-Y item # GY88XR from mounting correctly. The best option is going to be the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System item # MPG908. This one has a wider piece of steel that will grab the lip of your hitch's receiver to...

It is what holds the shank of accessory tight. I have attached a photo of how this is supposed to be installed between the hitch collar and the shank of the accessory. The curved portion of the Malone Anti-rattle will not touch the hitch.

  • Options on How to Fix a Loose 2 Inch Ball Mount
I have a couple different options on ways to fix a loose ball mount. The Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin, # SHP2061, dramatically reduces any movement or vibration between your hitch and hollow shank ball mount. The No-Rattle Trailer Hitch Wedge, # MPG908, will take up play and eliminate rattle. The Roadmaster Quiet Hitch, # RM-061, helps eliminate rattle and sway within your hitch receiver.

  • Is There A Standard Size for a 2 Inch Receiver
As you've discovered, a 2 inch receiver doesn't always measure exactly two inches by two inches. There is a manufacturing tolerance involved that allows the receiver to be a few hundredths of an inches larger or smaller than 2 inches, but still be within tolerance. Due to the fact that the connection between a hitch receiver and the shank of a ball mount or hitch mounted accessory isn't meant to be a precision fit, the tolerances are generous. These tolerances are common in manufactured...

  • Does Malone Anti-Rattle Device part # MPG908 Come with Lock Nuts
Hey Greg, yes it does look like they replaced the nuts with locking nuts that have nyloc inserts and still have the locking washers which is a bit redundant but I get it if they feedback was that the nuts were coming loose. With that said you don't have to completely remove the nuts to remove the anti-rattle system. You would just need to get them loose enough so that you can slide the shank of the cargo carrier out of the hitch and then it would come right off. So just a couple turns which...

You can use an anti-rattle device such as # SHP2082 as long as the shank on the bike rack is hollow. If it is not hollow then use anti-rattle device # MPG908. I have included a link to a video review of device # MPG908 for you. It is also possible that inside the shank of your Yakima bike rack there is a weld nut that accepts a threaded hitch pin. It sounds like you have the Draw-Tite QSP Trailer Hitch Silencer and Cover for 2" Hitch Receivers # 63080 as there are other people who have referenced the door having trouble staying closed. The problem is that this is just a lower quality product so it isn't always perfect. • Anti-Rattle Adapter Recommendation For Curt Hitch When Using Adapter
The anti-rattle adapter I recommend is the No-Rattle Trailer Hitch Wedge, part # MPG908. This will work for 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch receivers and is designed to insert into the small gap that may exist on your receiver. You then tighten it up after it has been installed on the hitch pin as the attached photo shows. This should reduce the rattle and movement you have been having.

To help keep the Adjustable Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # TK5007 snug you'll need an anti-rattle device like the Malone # MPG908 which clamps down or the Let's Go Aero # 63232 which uses a block and threaded locking hitch pin. These basically stabilize the shank of your ball mount to help keep it snug up against the hitch. This is pretty common for any ball mount no matter what price-point you're looking at.
