The controller that I received was broken. I had to get another one locally So I am not happy. The wiring and instructions were all correct The gain control on the left side was loose and sloppy. When I powered it up the display has two horizontal lines

I purchased this 7-pin connector for my 2007 FJ Cruiser. I was excited to get this installed, and found that the wiring was solid. I chose to cut the 4-pin connectors off of my FJ and this adapter. The fewer plugs the better! I like to solder and shrink wrap me connections. While the plug and wiring are really nice, the mounting bracket is junk. It’s very thin metal which appears to be simply painted, not powder coated. It also has a notch on the side for the 4-pin connector. This is the worst part. The rubber around the 4-pin is grooved, presumably to fit into the notch in the mounting plate. But it is not secure at all. The 4-pin simply falls out and dangles even with nothing connected. And there is no way to secure it. This is a significant design flaw.

Thank you for your review! It actually looks like you have that bracket on the wrong side of the 7-Way. The right side is a little wider so if you flip it to the left side youll have enough room for the 4-Way to fit properly.

product was excellent and COMPLETE. everything you need with very DETAILED directions. i also ordered the prodigy P2 to complete my install. both were excellent and very recommended. only modification was on the actual plastic cover on bumper, i cut away minimal pieces with razor knife for perfect fit. you can look at all the pics to check out install. I took advantage of the reverse light wire and put LED light bar on back of trailer.

i made one email to e trailer for exact numbers for my make and model. the response was pretty impressive. Full detail with pictures and product numbers all set up so all i had to do was press order and pay for it. This is how american companies are supposed to be ran......I LOVE IT!!!!

I dont know how to tell if I gave rightbamount of tension by turning the dial on brake controller.

Overall, this is a good kit, and is much better than having to do it from scratch. I mounted this on a 2016 Chevy Express 2500 with a DrawTite class V hitch. This kit did not come with an L-bracket to mount the receptacle to a hitch like they show in the video. But, you can get one from etrailer. I fabricated my own L-bracket and mounted it upside down so it would be protected from road debris by the hitch itself. It made the receptacle fit perfectly against the bottom of the bumper. (see pic) You will also need a couple extra blue butt connectors for this particular vehicle that are not included in the kit. It would also be nice if the kit came with a few more feet of wire covering to use under the hood. I would recommend following the video carefully when installing the Tekonsha Prodigy 2 controller. It's a great video.

Used to install in my 2005 Lincoln Navigator. This kit helped out a lot. I would have given it 5 stars, but had to make several mods in order for it to work! First mod was to the 4 way plug, it did not fit my factor 4way plug. So u will either have to splice the wires or cut the rubber seal from around the prongs to plug it in. Next the mounting bracket will not work on the 05/06 Navigator. You will have to cut the top mounting part off,so that it is just a flat square. The next thing is there is not enough zip ties, you will need at least 10 more. I did not use the fuses either, went with a inline standard fuse holder (30amp). When all is said and done. The wire and connectors really came in handy and the product is install. Hope the picture below will help others out because, I couldn't find any info on where to mount the 7-way. But found a creative location that still has somewhat of a factory look!

I have a 2018 BMW X2 that did not come with a factory tow package. I had an etrailer hitch and 4 way plug installed last year and has been perfect since. I just recently purchased a camper and needed to have a Brake controller & Brake controller 7 way deluxe kit installed. My mechanic installed them with the detailed instructions that the units came with without any issues. The Tekonsha P3 is extremely user friendly and is working flawlessly. A bit overkill for my car being I can only tow max 3500 pounds, and my camper is 1 axel. this unit is rated up to 3 axles. I look at it like this way, when I trade in my BMW I will take my P3 with me. etrailer is amazing with the support & products they provide and I highly recommend them to anyone who asks me.

My Meghan said this was very easy to install, works great no complaints whatsoever.

by:

I really liked the video made to go along with the installation. It did take some time but it was not too difficult to accomplish.

by:

I put this kit on my big Chevy van. Every time I plug the trailer in, everything works. Can't really ask for more than that.

by:

Unfortunately the wiring was wrong on the 4 pin that connects to the vehicle. The green and yellow wires were reversed (yellow on outside instead of green) so turn signals are backwards.

by:

I went to Toyota to have it installed on a 2024 Tacoma. They wanted 5 hours of shop time ($1,000) and it would void my warranty.

Can I return the Controller, Harness and Installation Kit? I am going to buy a tow vehicle with it already part of the towing package.

by:

Mot enough wire. Supplies were too exact. I had to purchase additional 10 gauge wire. The black screws that were used to fasten the plug to the bracket are rusting already

by:

Install took a while but overall a 2 out of five beard job. Buy a heat gun and nice crimper and shrink all connections

by:

I never installed wires for break controller before. I am semi handy. I watched some YouTube videos long story short they all made it seem harder than it is. E trailer had video of my vehicle bl bla bla. Everything worked out great. Is pretty easy to do. Would/will do it again. Also almost forgot to say E trailer is awesome company, I wish I could give some kind of constructive criticism but I can't. My favorite place

by:

I installed this to have the 7 way connector running the 4 way flat light inputs. It runs good with the inputs from the 4 way on a 7 way connector. When I plan to tow RV in the future I will have the option to run the auxiliary battery charger wires and brake controller.

by:

Duplex cable was cut with a razor or something down to copper wire at about 20 feet of its length it did not affect on my install but would not of been happy if it was at 16 feet.the only other thing I can think of is maybe use butt terminals with heat shrink to seal out the elements in the northeast . Very happy with the kit and everything that came with it, I would purchase again and like your videos on YouTube thank you

Fine product. Not a big fan of self tapping screws. Pre drilling can't even help those things.

by:

This is a great kit with quality parts. I recommend it it your vehicles has no OEM front to rear brake control and power wire for the 7 pin system. The rear lighting signals need to be connected to this kit via a four pin adapter or direct wiring connection at the rear of your vehicle. I recommend this kit.

by:

I bought this for my volvo xc90. It was a great kit. I am not an electrical guy, but it was very easy to wire with the included instructions.
Works perfect. Awesome stuff from these guys.

So far so good. It works perfect for my motorcycle trailer, my flat trailer and for my travel trailer. No issues. Works great.

by:

Overall it’s a good product but minus one star because the screws that hold the plug to the bracket have rusted heavily in just a few months. I don’t drive in a corrosive environment; no salted roads, not near the ocean.

Still a good product, same rating. I replaced the rusted screws that came with this with stainless steel hardware. Had to slightly drill out the holes in the mount to accommodate the new hardware. Now it all looks good and works fine.

by:

Heavy gauge wire is really nice. Had all the parts required. However, I can't understand why something this pricey did NOT have a stainless bracket and stainless hardware. Shrink fit connectors should have also been included. It's like this kit was made for indoor use. Picture is after 3 weeks of being installed.

by:

Easy and pretty good product to wire up and use. But I did decide to not use the original circuit breakers in this kit. Instead I ended up using a 6 Terminal ATC/ATO Style Circuit Board along with Universal (break to length) Type-1 ATC Style Circuit Breakers. The only other thing that I think that should be included in this kit is at least a 25' roll of Blue 10ga Wire to complete the wiring from the Trailer Brake Controller to the 7-Way Vehicle Connector. The included double 10ga power wire was more than enough to wire up both the Trailer Brake Controller as well as the Power and Ground Terminals on the 7-Way Vehicle Connector.

by:

Overall the kit is great but for the price I think there should be a few improvements.
1. The four mounting screws for the receptacle should be stainless steel. I had to replace the black ones because they started rusting 2 weeks after installation.
2. The included circuit breakers should come with rubber boots to make them more water resistant.
3. The spring for the receptacle cover should also be stainless steel. It hasn't started rusting yet but I would rather have stainless.

The instructions were good and the installation went well.

The product is still functioning like new. Just make sure to keep some dielectric grease on the contacts to prevent corrosion.

by:

Installed a REDARC Tow-Pro Elite brake controller using this kit about a year ago, and it has performed flawlessly. Kit includes everything you need, and almost everything is high quality. My only complaint is with the 4 screws that are used to mount the 7-way connector to the bracket - these started to rust within a week or two of installation. Considering the connector is pretty much the only part of the kit that is visible, these should be stainless steel. Of course I can stop by the hardware store and grab some, however I would have gladly paid a few extra dollars for the kit to just come with them. Other than that, highly recommend.

by:

I had purchased wireless taillights for a small trailer solely for the reverse lights built into the taillights. The transmitter for the lights was integrated into the 7 prong trailer plug that worked perfectly with our SUV. However, I wanted a solution to adapt the 7 prong plug to the existing flat 4 pin receptacle on my 2002 Tacoma. This kit was the perfect solution. All I had to do to enable the backup lights was to tap into the backup lights electrical line on the Tacoma and just plug the flat 4 pin plug ino the existing receptacle. Works great. Took less than an hour to install everything.
