Hi Michael! Do you already have a 7-way on your Transit? If you don't have wiring, you need to start by adding a 4-way with # C56327 (single rear wheel) or # C42MJ (dually). Once you have your 4-way installed you can upgrade it to a 7-way using the # ETBC7.
Then for a brake controller, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED52VR. The Liberty is simple, reliable, and installs just about anywhere in the cab. The main unit is hidden and the control knob installs in the dash. This comes with a universal wiring harness for installation.
What are you towing with your Transit?

Also, because there is no T1 connector on this van, would we have to splice into the ford wiring harness?

I purchased this brake controller at least 2 years ago and installed on a 2020 Palisade, which only had the 4 wire connector at the hitch. The installation went as well as I could ask for. Fortunately Trailer had an installation video available which helped me locate the correct brake wire. The controller "learned" well and has worked flawlessly since installation. I really like the small controller know which is extremely unobtrusive in my dash.

Robin, essentially, we will need to by three products to be able to have the break controller. We won't be hauling much, just a unitality trailer
