Good winch. Handle can only be installed on one side only (left); not a huge problem, but it would be nice to have the option to install the handle on either side 652561

I bought the winch last spring specifically to attempt to straighten up a 25 foot tall spruce tree that had been bent over by high winds. Using the winch, wire cable and a little engineering to moor the winch, the task was successfully completed and the tree is doing just fine. 611327

Got the product. Looks just like the picture and works just like a winch. I have an elevated house on the Texas Coast and I plan on using this winch to hoist my kayak up from driveway under the house to the crossbeams supporting the house. Will mount the winch on one of the pillar post with lag bolts, fasten the rope from the kayak hoist to the winch, and turn the handle. No pulling or lifting. 569345

It is a simple installation winch. Quality seems to be good and it has a better feel than the old winch it replaced. 569016

Combined bunk rollers and a keel roller (along with winch and lumber) to create a way to lift and store our 22' kayak. Works like a dream, though the winch does show some slight signs of rust. Not a huge surprise given our location on salt water. 555099

I have purchased several items recently from etrailer while refurbishing my boat trailer....products have all been excellent and very reasonable...delivery is prompt and I am pleased to recommend their company....best in the business. 547066

Am very happy with what l got. Am using it to fix my large free standing unbrula. The regular device that makes it go up and down somehow malfunctioned. Because it is a sealed unit completely enclosed, l had to cut into the metal. Took the cord that goes up through the center of the arm out. Put a couple pulleys on and used your wench to make it go up and down. 504988

These are used with an external tent trailer pole and rope lift system sold here locally in Oregon City Oregon. They worked flawlessly last year- stone axe simple. That's a good thing! Will be used again in a couple of weeks. So much more reliable than the ridiculously complex internal cable hoist. What a broken, snarled up mess! I pulled them all out and just use these now! 433461

Item DL14125 is a good item and it will work for me but I was hoping the reel had a slightly larger capacity. It is made with good material. I made a small derrick and bolted the winch to it to raise my pump and piping from my water well. I am using 1/4 inch poly rope and the reel will hold only 50 feet of rope tightly rung. 257513

  • Mounting Holes Measurements and Strap Width for Dutton Lainson 600 and 900 Pound Winches
Both hand winches # DL15002 and # DL14125 have the same mounting pattern. I have included a picture that shows the dimensions for you. A 2 inch wide strap will work with these winches. You will want the strap capacity to be at least 1.5 times higher than the winch capacity for safety. For winch # DL15002 the recommended strap is # DL24291. And for winch # DL14125 the recommended strap is # DL24239.

  • Strap and Mounting Plate Needed for the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14125
The strap that you will need to use for the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14125 is the 2" x 15' Strap # DL6148. The hook on this strap has a safety latch on it to help keep it secured to the load during operation. You will need a 2-3/4" long x 1/14" diameter bolt for this straps to work with this winch though (not included). When it comes to mounting the winch we have the CE Smith Winch Stand # CE31013G but this is used for boat trailers. If you have a utility trailer then unfortunately...

  • Recommendation for Small Freewheeling Hand Winch to Raise and Lower Anchor
We definitely have a really good winch for your specific application with the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14125. This compact winch features a 600 pound capacity, can be used with wire rope or polyester strap, measures just over 5 inches wide (5-11/64 inches to be exact), and has free-wheeling capability (I did confirm this with Dutton-Lainson). I have attached a detailed dimensional drawing that you can also take a look at to make sure it meets your requirements. I have attached...

  • Winch Strap Width and How Connected on part# DL14125
For a strap for winch # DL14125 you will need 2 inch wide strap # DL24239. It is rated for 4,000 pounds and is 15 feet long. To attach a cable all you have to do is locate the set of elongated holes on the drum closest to the center of the drum. The strap comes with a bolt and nut. The bolt goes through one hole, through the loop in the strap, and through the other hole. The nut secure it on the other side. The nut should be on the gear side. I have included a link to a video review...

  • Hand Winch for Use Pulling Floating Boat Dock
Most winches can use a wire rope or nylon strap of up to about 20-feet in length. In your floating dock application where there is not really going to be a lot of weight on the winch an item like the 600-lb-rated Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14125 would do the trick. With it you can use a 50-foot cable # DL24104.

  • Recommended Winch for Zieman Jetski Trailer
The Zieman website does not indicate any specifics about suggested winches for its watercraft trailers but winch mounts are supplied. To determine the winch that will suit your personal watercraft you can review the linked article on winches. Typically a single-speed winch will have more than enough capacity for a jetski. You'll want to confirm the weight of your watercraft and with that review the article to determine how much capacity you'll need. We generally recommend selecting...

  • Using the 3/16 Hand Winch Cable with the Dutton & Lainson Single Speed Hand Winch
If you are planning on using the 3/16 inch Hand Winch Cable, part # DL24043, or any 3/16 inch cable, with the Dutton & Lainson Single Speed 600lb Hand Winch, part # DL14125, you will need a 3/16 inch fastener. I recommend the 3/16 inch Cable Fastener, part # DL24360.

  • What is the Best Winch To Use for Hoisting
Ideally, for hoisting, you would use a worm gear winch such as # DL10954 which you would mount on a ceiling and use a locally obtained rod and hook to turn the handle. A Heavy duty variable speed drill 1/2" shaft, using 5/8" socket, may speed up operation. A ratcheting winch will ratchet up and work well when there is limited space, but it will only ratchet in. When release it will just drop the load. A worm gear winch is the best option since it automatically will brake when the...

  • Can Crank of Dutton-Lainson # DL14125 Hand Winch Be Operated With a Drill or Impact Driver
Dutton-Lainson doesn't recommend using a drill or driver to operate a standard winch such as the # DL14125. However, they do offer a worm gear winch, part # DL11004 that can be operated using a drill with a 5/8 inch socket. Because it's a worm gear winch, there's no need to worry about the winch spooling out or freewheeling if you lose your grip on the drill, which is a highly important safety feature. If you stop turning the shaft, the reel will stop in place. This winch is compatible...

  • Recommended Hand Winch to Load and Unload a 500 lb Motorcycle on a Trailer
The hand winch that I recommend for you to use so that you can load and unload your 500 lb motorcycle effortlessly is the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch with TUFFPLATE Finish # DL14125. This winch is rated for 600 lbs and it has a gear ratio of 3.2:1. It can be used with either a 61 foot x 15/32 inch cable or a 16 foot x 2 inch strap. An appropriate strap to use with this winch would be the Hand Winch Strap with Safety Hook, part # DL24239, which is 15 feet long x 2 inches wide and is rated...

  • Hand Winch Recommendation to Hoist a Kayak Up to Garage Ceiling
Dutton Lainson hand winch # DL14125 could be used for hoisting up a kayak but because this winch does not have a brake to lower the load you would have to go into freewheel mode and the load will fall. There are different types of winches that are much better for this application. I recommend a worm gear winch, # DL10954, that you can mount on the ceiling and use an extension pole to turn the loop drive handle. Place this winch centered above where you would lift the kayak so you will...

  • How to Pick Out a Winch for a 1,000 lb Boat
Generally when picking out a winch for a boat trailer the ratio is 2 to 1 meaning you would need a winch with roughly half the capacity as the weight of the boat. With good rollers and a short winching distance the ratio increases to 3 to 1, but with long winching distances and wooden bunks like what you currently have the ratio is 1 to 1. The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14125 should work well for you. It has a 600 lb capacity and has a small enough mounting plate that it should fit...

  • Small Winch to Use for Lifting 4 lbs in Treehouse
The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL14125 that you referenced only ratchets when pulling the cable in. To let the cable out you would push the pawl down and it will allow the handle to free-wheel in either direction. At this point you would hold the handle and rotate it so that the winch feeds the cable out. For something that only weighs 4 lbs this shouldn't be a problem. I attached a review video for this winch to show you how it operates as well.

  • Hand Winch for Boat Trailer with 20 Foot Long Strap
The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch part # DL14125 will only accept up to a 16' long strap due to the size of the drum, the Winch Strap with Hook part # DL6148 will be a good choice. The location of the handle would vary based on how you are looking at the winch. If you were looking at the winch straight on from the front then the handle is on the left side. The Fulton Single Speed Trailer Winch part # F142102 has a higher capacity and it already comes with a 20' long strap so this may be...

  • Will Dutton Lainson Winch # DL14125 Fit on Champion Boat Trailer Winch Plate
Dutton Lainson trailer winches like the # DL14125 have bolt patterns that are designed to fit the standard bolt pattern the winch mount on your boat trailer would have so this will work for you. Most of the holes are slotted on the plate of this winch which allows for variances as well.

  • 1/4 inch Winch Cable Recommendation for Dutton Lainson Winch
We have 1/4 inch winch cable for a Dutton Lainson winch like the part # DL24104 which is 50 feet long. For 25 feet instead you would want the part # DL24100. • Trailer Hand Winch Needed with Shortest Handle
The 7 inch handle on the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch with TUFFPLATE Finish # DL14125 is pretty much the standard size as most winches have a 7 inch handle. We do have a smaller handle with the Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed Trailer Winch with Adjustable Handle # FW20000301 but it can only be adjusted down to 6 inches. If the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch is the type of winch that you are looking for then I recommend going that direction if you will be using cable. It can hold 5/32 inch diameter...

  • Does the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch Part DL14125 Have Just A Ractchet Action For Winding In
I walked out to the warehouse and looked at Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch, part # DL14125, to verify. Yes, part # DL14125 has a ratchet action that clicks into each gear while turning in the wind-in direction, but for wind-out, just spins without stopping. There is a lever on the unit that you must turn down to wind-out, the handle turns as you wind-in or wind-out.

  • Winch Recommendation for a PWC Trailer
Sorry to hear about your Sea Doo falling off your trailer! When picking out a boat or PWC winch the general rule of thumb is that you need a winch with a 2 to 1 capacity for the weight of the watercraft. So since 500 kg equals right at 1,100 lbs and everything we offer is rated in lbs you would want at least a 550 lb rated winch. The Dutton Lainson winch part # DL14125 has a 600 lb capacity and would work well for you. I attached a link to a review video for this winch for you to check...
