Weight Distribution Diagram

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

Installed in my 2019 ranger and the ride was night and day compared to no weight distribution hitch on it. The Curt system was very easy to install. Took me about 2 hours as this was my first time.

by:

It is a great product but unfortunately it would not work on my trailer because the hitch height on the trailer is to low to the ground.

by:

Curt wds works great. Easy installation,28' travel trailer pulls good with it. Thanks e-trailer!

by:

Took a couple of hours to set up. just took a 1000mile trip and it worked perfectly. No more bouncing, very little sway with passing trucks. This unit was installed on a 2022 Honda Ridgeline towing a 16 foot Keystone 1320RD. The trucks rear now only sagged 1 inch and the front raised 1/2 inch, for more normal driving.

by:

Order arrived a day early, and in great shape. I drove 571 miles and picked up a camper I found a great deal on marketplace. I had done some pre-scouting with the videos on e-trailer, as well as reviewing the documentation carefully and then pre-installing my hitch ball before I left. Did the full install/setup on my Tacoma at a campground the next morning after picking up the trailer, and everything went very smooth. Took me about 1.5 hours for full install and adjustments (me taking my time). It pulled the whole way home great, and was exactly what I expected! Happy with my purchase. :-)

Claire H at eTrailer.com was so spot-on helpful and knowledgeable with helping me figure out what hitch would be best for my whole outfit. So refreshing to have customer service that is 110% authentic customer service! Thank you so much Claire! I've unpacked it and getting ready to hitch it up, the F250 truck is currently in the shop getting fixed

The Curt TruTrack 2P Weight Distribution System w Sway Control - 7-Hole Shank - 10K GTW, 1K TW has been the perfect set up for hauling my camper trailer and the customer servicer I received at eTrailer.com was fantastic!!

by:

Received the hitch very quickly and installed today - overall pretty straight forward although the instructions in the box had been superseded by a revision that happily was the one you have on your website with the product - I had downloaded them to read ahead on how to install while I was waiting for the product to arrive. Although very similar, the revised instructions had the torque requirements for various fasteners that were not in the instructions that came with it. Also, the hitch sits further back than a typical 2” shank and my safety chains were to short so I had to order longer ones….from etrailer of course!

by:

Just installed today; etrailer shipped promptly but there were carrier delays. Despite poor review comments, we felt the packaging was excellent with custom foam and box reinforcements. Ours arrived with minimal damage to the box and no damage to the contents. Maybe they changed their packaging but we were pleased. Not our first hitch installation, it went together well, about three hours, instructions were written as though you already know how to install such a hitch; I can see how some people may struggle. Biggest complaint is the lack of detail on “adjustments”; you’re told to basically adjust for your rig but no detail on what adjustment delivers what result. We spent more time fiddling with adjustments only to discover that the baseline starting points were -roughly- the best. Pleased for now, would absolutely buy it again, look forward to our one-year review after we actually road test it.

by:

I have used it three times over the past year and it was flawless. Great stability and no sway. It took about 45min adjusting it to get my set up right, could probably do a bit more but I'm happy with the set up. I use it on my 2015 Tacoma TRD Sport w/tow package to pull 2018 Keystone Bullet 1900RD, dry weight 3,400 and 4,700 loaded.

by:

It's been a year since I bought my Curt Trutrack 2P weight distribution system with swaycontrol and 7 hole shank 10K GTW 1K TW and it has been great. It pulls my 31ft camper with ease. No regrets in buying it.

by:

Seems to work well for weight distribution on my 24’ car hauler with total weight about 8k. Had to buy an extra $200 drop receiver for the hitch to work with my ‘24 Sequoia, so the overall cost was no bargain. Relatively easy to install and remove. I don’t have much sway with this unit, but don’t know how much I would have without it. 4 stars instead of 5 since the included drop receiver didn’t work.

by:

Easy to order & fast delivery. When ever I need to get for the trailer I go to etrailer.

by:

Been using this system for a year, it works perfect and keeps me steady. I love it, best decision I made to purchase this system.

by:

Was delivered fast and packaging was excellent.
-1 star for instructions being incorrect (that's on Curt)
-2 star bc later I unintentionally found it for $[XX] cheaper on [online vendor], then a couple days after ordering it a $[XX] rebate was offered by etrailer on Feb 1. How would I have known to wait?

  • What is Difference Between Curt TruTrack 2P Weight Distribution System and the Curt Round Bar
Hey Rey, so I prefer the Curt TruTrack 2P part # C69JR over the Round Bar kit part # C17062 because the 2P has better ground clearance and has it's friction sway control built into the spring bar hangers instead of having a separate friction sway control unit that has to be installed and setup every time. They both function about the same though aside from that which is why the 2P is just the better option.

  • Can Curt 2P Weight Distribution System be Used with 2.5 inch Hitch
Hey Leland, yes a hitch reducer can be used with the Curt TruTrack 2P part # C69JR so that you can use it in a 2.5 inch hitch. You'd need an adapter like the part # BWRHXA2182. Or you could go with a shank that fits the 2.5 inch hitch size directly like the part # EQ90-02-4800 but this does cost a bit more money.

  • Everything Needed for 2019 Ford Ranger
Hi Mike, what exactly are you looking for? You looked at a weight distribution hitch (WDH), are you trying to find the right one for your setup? If you are, can you tell me more about your trailer? To find the right WDH it is important to know the tongue weight of your setup. For example, the Curt TruTrack 2P Weight Distribution System # C69JR you looked at is designed for 800 lbs - 1,000 lbs of tongue weight. If you can add this information in the comments below I can see what the best...

  • Is There A Lightweight Aluminum Shank Available For The Curt TruTrack 2P Weight Distribution Hitch
Hey Candelario, The Curt TruTrack 2P Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # C69JR only has a 2" channel and the shank of the Curt Alumalite Aluminum Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # C33ZJ you were looking at is 2-1/2" wide so it would be too large to fit. There isn't a another aluminum shank that would be compatible either unfortunately. Most other WDH's in your tongue weight range are going to either be the same amount of weight or more so there really isn't much of a difference you can...

  • Availability of 2-1/2" Shank for Curt TruTrack 2P Weight Distribution System
Hey Robert! You can replace the 2" shank on your Curt TruTrack 2P Weight Distribution System # C69JR with the Curt Weight Distribution Shank for 2-1/2" Hitches # C17131. This has a 3-1/4" drop, 6-3/4" rise, and will eliminate the need for that reducer sleeve. What kind of trailer are you towing?

  • Looking For A Weight Distribution System For My I-beam Car Hauler
Hey Matt, For a solid weight distribution system I recommend the Curt TruTrack # C69JR. This is a 1,000lb capacity system right in the perfect weight range for your truck and trailer. Since you have the I-beam trailer though you would need to have steel plates welded onto the trailer in order for this system to install. Typically 5-6" wide welded onto the frame to box it in and use this system. What kind of cars are you trailering around?

  • Weight Distribution Hitch for 2022 Coachmen Catalina Legacy 303QBCK
Hi Jen; we don't have a way of knowing how tall the frame is on your 2022 Coachmen Catalina Legacy 303QBCK. More than likely it isn't too tall for the standard brackets on a weight distribution hitch (WDH). If you measure it and find it is taller than 6" there are different options to get around unusually tall frames so that still won't be an issue, just let me know. The correct WDH depends on the tongue weight of your setup. Looking at your trailer it has a dry tongue weight of 856 lbs....

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Pulling 5,350LB Trailer
I recommend using the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-1000 for your trailer with the 2 UTV's. This system is also rated for a trailer up to 10,000lbs but has a much wider spread tongue weight capacity of 600-1,000lbs. The Curt # C69JR you found requires 800-1,000lbs of tongue weight which is going to be higher than you are going to have on your trailer. Typically tongue weight should fall around 10-15% of the trailer total weight. With a total weight around 5,350lbs you should...

  • Comparing Blue Ox 2-Point and Curt TruTrack 2P Weight Distribution Systems for a FR Wolf Pup 17JG
Generally speaking, it is not advisable to reverse a trailer when using a weight distribution system. The system won't blow up but if you reverse at too sharp an angle then you can damage the head so you have to do so in a pretty straight line or not at all. If you want to reverse at an angle you'll need to disengage the spring bars which is pretty simple. We can definitely set you up with a weight distribution system to use on your 2016 StarCraft AR One 14RB.
