Looking For A Weight Distribution System For My I-beam Car Hauler

Updated 12/05/2025 | Published 11/30/2025

Question:

Im looking for a WDH that will work with my 25 GMC Elevation 1500 max trailering 3.0 Duramax. Im using a 22 Diamond C car hauler trailer to haul 2 SxSs. After weighing the truck and trailer and the truck by itself, Im measuring 780 lbs tongue weight. The trailer and SxSs weigh 7180 lbs Im unsure what WDH would work with my trailer because it uses a 6 tall x 4 wide I-beam frame, and all the WDH pictures show traditional camper trailers with C-channel frames. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hey Matt,

For a solid weight distribution system I recommend the Curt TruTrack # C69JR. This is a 1,000lb capacity system right in the perfect weight range for your truck and trailer. Since you have the I-beam trailer though you would need to have steel plates welded onto the trailer in order for this system to install. Typically 5-6" wide welded onto the frame to box it in and use this system.

What kind of cars are you trailering around?

Thanks for the reply Nick. I reached out to Fastway and they recommended the e2 with 1000lb round bars for my application because I have just under 27" from the centerline of coupler to a built in tongue storage box. The trunnion style e2 requires 27" +. For support on the mounting brackets, they said the 6" x 4" I-beam is strong enough and that I just need to add wood spacers from the I-beam web out to the edges of the flanges. This will provide adequate support for the mounting brackets and keep them from bending/deflecting inward towards the web. I'm hauling 2 side x sides on this trailer ~2000 lbs each with a trailer weight of 3100 lbs.

@MattN That is good information to hear! I am glad they were able to help you out and find a system best suited for you. Considering the Curt and Fastway systems are very similar I would imagine the same goes for the Curt, but I am glad you found something for you that doesn't require to much additional work.
