Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Video Transcript for Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness Installation - 2013 Nissan Juke

Today on our 2013 Nissan Juke we'll be installing the CURT custom fit vehicle wiring harness, part number C56124. Now to begin our install we'll first go ahead and open up the rear hatch and then remove the spare tire cover. Next we'll remove the foam compartment next to the spare tire on the driver side. With that out of the way we'll go ahead and remove the rear threshold. To remove the rear threshold we'll get underneath it with a flat blade screwdriver or an interior trim panel tool to release the fasteners underneath. Once we've removed the threshold we'll set it aside. next we'll go ahead and remove the spare tire.

To remove the spare tire we'll move the center hold down and then we can pick the spare tire up and set it aside for reinstallation later. Now starting on the passenger side we're going to go ahead and pull back on the quarter panel. We'll get underneath it and release the fasteners as necessary. Along the outer edge there will be three push pin fasteners that will be released. Then we can pull back on the quarter panel to gain access to the manufacturer's wiring harness that runs into the socket for the taillight assembly.

Quick tech tip: to pull the panel back a little further and gain easier access, you can remove the courtesy light plug. To do that we'll press on the locking tab for the connector, remove it from the socket. Now we can pull back a little further on the end of your panel to gain easier access to the manufacturer's wiring. Now that we've located the wiring harness that runs into the taillight socket we'll go ahead and release it from the push pin fastener to gain easier access to this connection point. Then we'll press on the locking tab for the wiring connector and remove the taillight wiring harness from the socket. Next we'll take the green wire connector coming from our converter box for our new 4-pole wiring harness and plug inline with the manufacturer's wiring.

The t-connector will have matching connectors. Once we secure our connections we'll go ahead and reinstall it into the push pin fasteners to secure the wire, route it down inside the inner panel towards the threshold, and reinstall the interior panel. Once we have the inner panel reinstalled here on the passenger side we'll move over to the driver side, repeating the same process of removing the inner quarter panel. Now with the quarter panel pulled out and out of the way we'll locate the manufacturer's wiring harness that runs into the taillight socket, repeating the same process we did on the passenger side to remove the two connection points by pressing on the locking tab and removing the wiring harness from the socket. Next we'll take the yellow wire connector that comes from the converter box and plug inline, repeating the same process. Once we've plugged in we'll then take the white wire with the preattached ring terminal; that will be the ground wire for our new converter box and 4-pole harness. We'll pull it away from the harness so we can route it to a ground point.

Because this application is equipped with a premium sound system there's an extra bracket here with a bolt that will run into a manufacturer's weld nut. We'll utilize this for our ground stud. We'll remove the bolt, install the ring terminal onto the bolt, and then resecure it into the manufacturer's weld nut, creating our ground for our converter box. Now with all our wires connected we'll go ahead and route them inside the paneling and reinstall the paneling. We can then take the converter box and use the two-way adhesive supplied with the install kit, removing one side and applying it to the converter box, removing the other side and adhering the converter box to the vehicle. When we adhere the converter box we're looking for a clean flat surface, preferably sheet metal, for a good secured connection. Once we've mounted to converter box we'll go ahead and use the zip tie supplied with the install kit to secure the wiring behind the paneling and threshold. Once we've secured the wiring we'll cut off the excess from the wiring with the zip ties, clean up our install look, and reinstall the interior trim paneling. Once we have everything reinstalled, let's go ahead and show you how to use the new 4-pole connector. We'll take our 4-pole connector out from under the spare tire cover and route it over the threshold, staying away from the latch as pinching the wire off in the latch can harm it. However, the threshold is thick enough that we can simply close the rear hatch on it and then pull out what's necessary to run down to our hitch or accessory. Then once we're finished using our 4-pole wire we'll simply roll it up and store it in the spare tire well cargo area. Next we'll go ahead and show you how to test the new 4-pole connector. To test it we'll use a test light, putting our ground clamp on the white wire terminal. We'll take our tester, then probe the brown wire terminal for our running light circuit, yellow wire terminal for the driver side turn signal and brake circuit, and the green wire terminal for the passenger side turn signal and brake circuit. Once we've verified all our functions work, we're ready to hit the road. That does it for the install of the CURT custom fit vehicle wiring harness with 4-pole flat connector, part number C56124, for our 2013 Nissan Juke. .

Easy to use. Clear instructions. Trim on 2014 Juke is a pain, I just popped the side covers out enough to get to the area with the light connections. I had a threaded hole on the drivers quarter area. I used a spare metric bolt to attach the ground. I dont know what size it is, maybe a hair smaller than quarter inch with fine threads. Reccomend using that as a ground if you have it. 575440

I've bought several products from eTrailer and have always been pleased with their service. A huge inventory, good prices and quick shipping make eTrailer my "go to" shop for my towing needs. I bought this wiring harness for my Nissan Juke and it was quick and easy to install. I love the plug and play method of this harness. It's a lot cleaner (more professional looking) than the old method of splicing into wires to make the connections. 522396

I have not installed the harness yet on my daughter-in-inlaws Juke, but so far dealing with etrailer.com has been fantastic. Product info, ordering and shipping was far above what I am used to, delivery was fast even with the holiday weekend. The quality of the harness is evident, very well made and engineered. I will be installing this week and will email an update. Thanks for the great service and a quality product. Michael 268489

Etrailer service/price excellent. However, the product doesn't work properly. Easy installation, lights didn't function the way they should. I purchased a universal assembly spliced it in ahead of the Curt unit and it worked perfectly. I cut the Curt out. It might work as a universal on another car. Loved the easy install it was worth the extra $25 to keep the connectors. 219910

Very easy to install. With the very limited/vague instructions the not so mechanically inclined individual might be a little apprehensive to install, however not to difficult at all. Instructions should probably state that the panels that have to be removed are held in place with spring clips so that folks are not worried about breaking things. 97865

You need a tool specific to removing plastic paneling. The dealer can do this for you in under 10 minutes. The bottom portion where the hatch back locks down has a plastic strip. This needs to be removed first. Then driver's side and passenger side at the top of the read panels can be pry'd out enough to get your hand in there to attach the clips and sling the wire in whatever direction you wish it to exit. The whole process should not take more than 15 minutes top. 59844

Install was very easy, it is just a matter of taking time to carefully remove isde panels and base plate so as not to break the clips. I also purchased the tow hitch was equally as easy to mount. My total work time for both was about one and a quarter hours. 34058

Do you have a question about this Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring?

  • Troubleshooting Curt Trailer Wiring Harness # C56124 for 2012 Nissan Juke
  • There are a couple things to check before replacing the unit, which may be the answer. First, check your vehicle fuses as listed in your owners manual. There are specific fuses for trailer use on your vehicle. The second thing to check is the ground wire on your wiring harness. If the ground is bad and isn't getting the bare metal to metal contact it could have worked and then suddenly stopped working as you stated. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to check functions. • Constant Power on 4-Way After Installing Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2013 Nissan Juke
  • It might be the tester. If the tester uses LED lights and it is a powered harness there can be some bleed off from the harness.
