Quiet, Secure Ride

B&W Companion OEM Ram Jaw

The 1" thick jaw on the Companion OEM is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

B&W Companion OEM Ram Bushings

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Companion OEM is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Installation of the B&W Companion OEM

To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you the cab clearance needed to execute turns while towing.

To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.

B&W Companion OEM Ram Feet

Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.

The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

  • How Do I Determine The Correct Pivot Arm Position For My B&W Companion Hitch?
Good question Mel, and I don't blame you for being confused since there are a lot of options and there is probably more than one right answer. The correct pivot arm position will depend on the clearance between the nose of the camper and the cab of your truck. I have included some pictures below to help illustrate. If your truck is a long bed, clearance should not be an issue, and you will want to use the one of the centermost positions. Basically, you want to keep the Kingpin centered...

  • Recommended B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitches for the Ram Puck System
Hey Tom, congrats on the new truck! Typically when we hear that someone has the OEM tow prep package they mean the puck system. This is going to be five circular holes built into the bed of your Ram truck and is by far the best way to attach a 5th wheel hitch. It's going to provide a more secure connection and is super convenient. There's only two B&W Companion 5th wheel hitches that are going to work with the Ram puck system. One is a slider and one is a standard 5th wheel hitch. They...

  • Solution for Adding OEM Prep Package on 2024 Ram 3500
Hello Melissa; the OEM prep package is not something we offer. If you really want the underbed puck system with the gooseneck hitch you will need to get it from the Mopar parts site or through a local dealer. Since you're planning on using a B&W Companion, I recommend the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1320 instead. The B&W Turnoverball is a gooseneck hitch but also acts as the mounting point for the Companion. This will also mean less holes in the bed of the...

  • Recommended Locks for a B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch
While there is not a specifically designed anti-theft device for the B&W Companion hitches like item # BWRVK3600, we do have a couple of options to secure it. The first is the Master Lock 1-9/16" Wide Solid Brass Body Padlock with 2" Shackle item # ML140DLH. This would lock the handles on the base, so you couldn't turn them while installed in the puck system. You would need to remove these locks and replace them with the original pins before towing. Then for a king pin lock you could...

  • 2500 or 3500 Series Truck Recommendation for Towing Trailer 14,500 lb
For a trailer that weighs, 14,500 lbs I would strongly recommend a 3500 series truck. Even if the 2500 could technically tow it the 3500's higher rated suspension will make for a much better towing experience. Less sag and a smoother ride when towing. The ride quality will be a bit stiffer unloaded but that's not why you need the truck. I'd also recommend a long bed truck so that you have turning clearance without needing a slider hitch. I'd also recommend a dually rear axle as that adds...

  • Ram Truck Factory Puck System for 5th Wheel Hitches
The Ram OEM 5th wheel puck system, shown in the linked photo and article, was launched in 2013 so what you have in your truck is likely to be an aftermarket installation of some kind. These newer Ram trucks with the factory prep can directly accept a specialized 5th wheel hitch such as the B&W # BWRVK3600 or the Curt # C16545-16021. Such hitches drop right into those factory pucks, allowing you to completely remove the hitch for a clear bed when necessary for cargo. Without seeing the...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch that Can be Used with 2022 Ram 2500 with Ram Box and Sidewinder Pin Box
You are on the right track, but yes the M25 will not work with a Sidewinder as the jaws and head design tend to fail pretty quick when used with one. So your best option is the B and W Companion hitch part # BWRVK3600.This will allow you to use the Sidewinder pin box which is only way to tow since the truck has the Ram Boxes.

  • How To Determine The Correct Position For B&W Pivot Arms
When installing the pivot arms on your B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package - Dual Jaw - 25,000lbs Item # BWRVK3600 you'll want to ensure that you have 6" of clearance between the bed rails and the nose of your 5th wheel and 16"-24" between the bumper of your truck and the body of your camper. • 5th Wheel Hitch For 2020 Ram 2500 Short Bed With Puck System & Side Ram Boxes
There is an option to add a 5th wheel hitch to your 2020 Ram 2500 short bed with the factory puck system and side boxes, though for clearance what you will need is a fixed hitch and a Sidewinder pin box. The Sidewinder will replace your 5th wheel trailer's factory pin box, moving the pivot point back to the turret (instead of the hitch), which allows for enough clearance so your trailer doesn't contact your Ram truck. First, let's get to the hitch, and the best option for your Ram is going...

  • Recommended Gooseneck Hitch for a 2022 Ram 3500
Hey Marixa. To add a gooseneck hitch to your 2022 Ram 3500, I recommend the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch w/ Custom Installation Kit item # BWGNRK1320. This gooseneck hitch installs with custom fit brackets that bolt directly to pre-existing holes in your Ram's frame. It has a 30,000 lbs capacity with a 7,500 lbs vertical load limit. Best option will be the B and W Companion fifth wheel hitch part # BWRVK3600 which is designed to fit the factory rail kits of your 2018 Ram 2500. This will give you the best fifth wheel hitch around due to the reliability, ease of use, and tight king pin contact of this USA made hitch and is compatible with a Reese Revolution like you have. Tall/lifted trucks are not ideal for towing since they can lead to an out-of-level (nose high) condition on the trailer, which in turn can lead to issues with sway. • Does 2017 Ram 3500 with Cummins Diesel have Towing Capacity for 15k Trailer
The 2017 Ram trucks with the Cummins diesel have an insanely high towing capacity. The trailer you are considering which weighs 15k dry is about half of what your truck's towing capacity is so it would not be an issue at all. Hitch weight is most likely tongue weight for a bumper pull trailer. The B and W Companion part # BWRVK3600 which has a 25k capacity would be a great option as it fits your truck, is the nicest hitch around, and because it has more than enough capacity.

We would typically say to use a slider with a short bed (the B&W Companion # BWRVK3670 is what I tend to recommend), but a lot of 5th wheel trailers have tapered noses these days and the slider isn't always needed, which is nice. Sliders are heavy. Speaking of that tapered nose though, what kind of 5th wheel...
