Solution for Adding OEM Prep Package on 2024 Ram 3500

Question:

Hi, I just bought a 2024 ram 3500 dually. I’m looking for the OEM Mopar fifth wheel prep package puck system , but I also need the center hole for the gooseneck. Is that two separate packages? Can you direct me towards the proper links to purchase these and do you know how complicated it is like how far the bed has to be lifted off of the frame to install this yourself? My husband wants five holes in the bed, the one in the middle for the gooseneck and the other ones for the fifth wheel. That’s what I’m looking for that system. OEM … we will later buy a BandW companion fifth wheel hitch.. he needs to be able to tow a 40 foot +5th wheel and multiple trailers that weigh way over 20,000 pounds by gooseneck too. Ty. Melissa Oh also do I need to add any kind of wiring harness, etc. to go with this? We have a Laramie model. I’m not exactly sure what it came with as far as wiring.

Hello Melissa; the OEM prep package is not something we offer. If you really want the underbed puck system with the gooseneck hitch you will need to get it from the Mopar parts site or through a local dealer. Since you're planning on using a B&W Companion, I recommend the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1320 instead.

The B&W Turnoverball is a gooseneck hitch but also acts as the mounting point for the Companion. This will also mean less holes in the bed of the truck since you only have the single hole to drill instead of 5. The gooseneck ball stores upside down so you have full bed access when not in use. Also, the bed does not need to be removed for installation and you can follow along with our installation video attached below.

If you have an 8' bed the correct B&W Companion is the # BWRVK3500. If you have a short bed and need a slider then the # BWRVK3400-5W is the correct 5th wheel hitch. For wiring you can use the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness w/ 7-Pole Connector # C56070. This plugs in-line behind the 7-way at the bumper and runs up to the truck bed so you have a 7-way for gooseneck/5th wheel towing.

Thank you is there any other fifth wheel hitch available for this turnover gooseneck , that’s rated for over 20k?

@MelissaS I was under the impression that only the gooseneck trailers you would be towing were over 20k based on how that was worded, my apologies. The gooseneck hitch can handle 30k but the Companion 5th wheels only go up to 20k. If you want to use the Companion over 20k the only option is the # BWRVK3600 which is rated for 25k and designed to fit the OEM prep package. If you need the slider 20k is going to be the max from B&W.
