Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Bought the Hidden Hitch for our 2013 Acura Rdx. This was super easy to install. No lowering of the exhaust and no grinding the access holes for the mounting screws! Took about 25 minutes. Thanks!

by:

First off, service from Etrailer was excellent. The hitch shipped quickly and was delivered in a matter of days.
As for the hitch itself, I couldn't be happier with the fit. I have a Curt hitch on another vehicle, and had all sorts of problems with the hole alignment with it. With this Hidden Hitch, the hole alignment was perfect. Also, it fit nice and snug up to the bumper of my 2011 Acura RDX, but without bowing the facia out like I had seen in pics of other hitches.
My only complaint is the insanely high torque requirement of the screws, 115 ft-lbs for the ones that go into the pre-mounted threaded holes in the vehicle frame! My torque wrench only goes up to 80 ft-lbs, and even if I had a longer wrench, I don't see how I'm going to get the leverage without loosening the facia and using an extension. I know for a fact the hitch I installed on my other vehicle did not require such high torque. Of course, I blame Acura. They spec'd the threads in the frame. Still, it would have been nice to know in advance, as I don't think most DYI folks have a wrench capable of delivering such high torque.

The product was back-ordered from the manufacturer, but eTrailer kept me appraised of the status. When it did ship, it got here promptly (NoCalif).

The Hidden Hitch was a snap to install - good directions and all the hardware that I needed. It took me about an hour, including fumbling with my multimeter to check the wiring.

Here's a tip: if your car is less than brand new, any factory-installed threaded openings are probably caked with road grime. Clean them out by spraying the bolt with a lubricant and running it in the hole a ways before you start wrestling with the hitch under the car.

This is the second hitch I've bought from eTrailer, so I don't shop anywhere else.

by:

Compact SUV's don't have enough cargo storage, so I purchased the Hidden Hitch for my wife's Acura RDX after finding another product called the "Stack Rack" . Solved my problem in 15 minutes, which is how long it took to install the Hidden Hitch. The fit of the Hidden Hitch was perfect. Now the back seats are empty on family beach trips.

Product as advertised; very quick shipping. Great service.

2015 Acura RDX

Only took 15 minutes to install it on my 2011 Acura RDX. It's a well-made hitch that looks better on the car than the OEM version did.

2013 Acura RDX

Installation is on a 2013 Acura RDX. Great service and fast shipping. The hitch went on with no problems or issues, fits and looks great and took all of 20 minutes max to install.

by:

Great customer serviceThanks for finding out which hitches would fit my 2011 auto when no one's websites are updated for this information. And thanks for the update on the shipping dates. The hitch fit up perfectly, just as your team said it would!

Reese Hitch for 2010 Acura RDX was Very easy to install, directions were dead on, also got the wiring adapter it was plug and play simple, 35 minutes and I, walked away finished!

by:

I was very happy with the the product information on their website. Order was delivered fast and the hitch is great. Was very easy to install.
Great for my bikerack.

by:

Product has great quaility and is built very sturdy. The only issue I had was that my car had paint in the threads for the mounts. It would help to have a tap to run it through to clean it out first. Otherwise have a lift or put it up on jack stands would have made it easier. It took me about an hour laying on the garage floor to put it in.

by:

As advertised...and then some. Speedy shipping, great customer service, fantastic how-to videos/advice, etc. Installation was a breeze. Couldn't have asked for more. My new favorite go-to location. I'll be sharing my wonderful experience with everyone I know.

2012 Acura RDX

Got this hitch to put on a 2012 Acura RDX. Although the instructions do mention that one might need to pull the bumper out a bit, it's more than a bit. The hitch will not sit flush with the holes unless you move the bumper out at least 3/4 of an inch. Maybe that'a a bit to some, but pushing against the bumper supports while holding the hitch in place is not an easy thing to do. I was hoping to install this myself, but will have to take it into a shop to get it done. Very disappointed. Maybe it worked better with earlier RDX models, doesn't fit well with our 2012.

by:
2013 Acura RDX

Rated good since etrailer did a great job expediting my order and getting it to me quickly. And, the hitch itself is heavy duty and good quality.

However, installation was very difficult. This hitch must not have been tested on a 2013 Acura RDX. To say that the rear fascia may need to be slightly pulled down is a gross understatement (at least for the 2013 RDX). The holes would not line up by about 3/4 of an inch. The hitch was pushed directly against the fascia support brackets, which do not give easily. It took one person pulling very hard on the fascia while another person struggled to push the hitch in place so the holes would line up. Then, while struggling to do that, you have to hold the weight of the hitch and thread the screws. We eventually enlisted a third person to help. Would not rate this installation difficulty a 3.

I eventually succeeded in installing the hitch, but a better design would have made it much easier.

by:

solid hitch, seems to have a good paint on it. Easy install by myself though another set of hands would have been easier, I think it's called 'driveway yoga'. Installed on 2018 Acura, so the factory mount threads were rusted/corroded. had to get a 12mm thread tap to clean out the holes, had those been clean it would have been about a 15 minute job for this 71 year old.

Road grime can definitely cause issues when installing a hitch, but it sounds like you handled it like a true pro, Dave! And hence forth, I will be using Driveway Yoga when people ask about installing a hitch! I like it. : ) What will you be using the hitch for?

by:
2017 Acura RDX

My order was delivered on time. The tracking info was very detailed. The installation instructions were easy to follow. I am over 70 years old man and could install it in less than a hour. The key tip is to make sure the pre-thread holes on the frame are brushed and clean; and get enough jack support ready to help lifting up before starting the installation.

Our bike rack arrived quickly and efficiently; communication with etrailer was exceptional; we're very happy with the bike rack. Easy to assemble. Functions as advertised. Good price.

by:
2016 Acura RDX

I received my hitch and managed to install it myself. It fits perfectly and all the bolt holes are in exactly the right place for my 2016 Acura. Manipulating the hitch into place is relatively easy if you can use a scissors jack to bring it up and rotate the hitch past the tail pipes before putting any bolts in place. Put one bolt in one end, then 2 in the other end then back to the other end for the last one. You'll want to keep enough slack in the bolts to allow the hitch to move, as any misalignment will make it difficult to thread the last bolt.

by:

Solid hitch. It is well built and easy to handle. Only issue I had was the packaging. First of all, this shipment did not come from etrailer guys directly. When I placed my order, their awesome customer service contacted me within 20 minutes letting me know that they are out of stock and the next batch of hitches are delayed by the vendor. I was offered to switch to Curt hitch. They are great too but I did not go with that option. 1) They are more expensive (maybe 15 bucks more) 2) They require a safety strap with bike racks and I do not want to hook anything to my car. The curt however has higher tongue weight. I am not planning on towing anything (well for now). My sole reason for this hitch is hooking up my bike rack. I have a Kuat Transfer 2 and it is a great rack
The hitch was wrapped in a paper to protect it from getting scrathsed. However there were no bubble wraps anything like that. The hitch was sticking out of the shipping package. It was scratched in multiple places. No big deal. I mean it would be nice to get a scratch free one, but realize this that the hitch will be underneath the car and it will get hit by rocks and so on. My only issue is that I live in Minnesota and winters require tons of salting, so we get rust a lot.

My fix to address this issue was to purchase a can of Rustleuom primer and paint. I double coated all of the scratches and it was dried to touch in 2 hours and fully cured in 24.

So now let's get to the installation. This was super easy. Do not pay someone to do it. Have someone help you. It makes it super easy. We had the hitch installed in 5 minutes. No lift of jacking required. I was also thinking of getting car ramps but it slides in pretty easy. With two people you can lie down and slip into position and then screw the bolts. I think with one person you can lift it up and put in on a box or pile of boards and then screw each side. I'd suggest taking care of the handled nuts first. Bend and shape them and then place them in the holes. With this once you are underneath, you can screw the bolts to the welded nuts and then move to the last two bolts, then you dont have to get up and fix the handled ones while the hitch is dangling.

Just beware, then welded nuts need to be clean or otherwise it would not screw that well. As mentioned, I live in Minnesota. It took us 30 to 40 minutes of spraying WD-40 and brushing the holes. It was painful. There was so much rust you cant even believe it. We could not screw past 1 turn. So the hitch itself is easy. Other things might cause complications.

I rented a torque wrench from Autozone and it turned out to be out of spec. So we drove there and got another one. Just FYI, 115lbs of torque is tons pressure. You need to put a lot of muscle into it to get it to that point. Do not feel like you are over-tightening it. It will click at one point. We felt like that we are not doing it right. I found a Discount Tire right by the Autozone store and the staff there torqued to spec for us free of charge. The technician was amazed on how much 115lbs torque was. He kept turning and twisting and not hearing a click. It was kind of funny but we got it done. It looks great and sturdy

It is a great hitch and works well. I had to paint it when I received since there were some scratches on it. I live in MN and we get a lot of salt on road and rust is a major issue. Unfortunately I backed into a small stone step behind my garage which scrapped the side of the hitch. It actually held up well and crushed the stone. Only issue is the pain got scrapped off. It happened in November and it was too cold to paint it. Now it is a bit rusty, mostly superficial. I need to scrap the rust and repaint it

by:

I’ve been using this for about a year now and it works great. I put it on a small SUV that did not have a receiver so I could use a hitch rack for extra cargo when traveling. Super sturdy design and highly recommended.

by:

Hitch delivered as promised and is as described, installation is as the video shows, less then 40 minutes ! Etrailer.com covers all the bases and they are the real deal. I would definitely buy again.

2016 Acura RDX

We ordered this hitch to install on our New 2016 Acura RDX so that we can haul our road bikes when traveling. The dealership wanted an incredible amount to install the Acura hitch. The product is excellent and fits perfectly to the predrilled wholes in the frame of the Acura. My wife helped me hold up one end while I held the other and place the bolts and tightened them. It took less than 30 minutes and saved me $500 that the dealership would have charged on top of the what I paid etrailer.com. I did not install the wiring harness as I don't expect to pull trailers with this vehicle. The Draw-Tite hitch is also a heavier duty hitch compared to the hitch from the Acura dealership. I was also very happy with the service from etrailer.com. We have had the hitch on the car for about 1.5 years and it still looks good and no rust.

Well I haven't towed anything with it yet, but the little cargo carrier fits perfectly, and it went in extremely easy. The prompt delivery was appreciated.

by:

Hitch arrived very quickly. It was well secured in a sturdy box with all of the needed parts included. The instructions were easy to follow and I was able to install the hitch with my son in about 30 minutes. We were able to install without any type of lift.
Besides the etrailer video on the hitch I would suggest you also watch the draw tite Utube installation video as it shows a couple of extra hints that came in very helpful. One thing to be sure to do is pop the two plastic fasters that hold the back rear shroud to its support...it makes installation so much easier. All in all the product looks like it is very well built, is easy to install and looks great! I would easily recommend.

  • Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2017 Acura RDX
I can help, but since you have a Class I hitch you can only carry up to 2 bikes with that setup. What you would need is a Class III hitch installed on your 2017 Acura RDX. For that you would want to remove the dealer hitch and then install the Draw Tite part # 75784. With this hitch you could easily carry a 3 bike rack. I really like the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 3 Bikes, part # KU24FR. This is a lightweight platform rack (which is normally an unheard of combo). That means it'll be...

Hello Clark, I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75784 is only compatible with the rear of your 2016 Acura RDX.
