Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Ball Mounts 36051 Review

Today well be reviewing part number 36051. This is the Draw Tite Class II drawbar with a 5/8th inch rise or 1 and inch drop. Its rated at 3500 pounds with a gross trailer weight and up to 300 pounds when it comes to the maximum towing weight capacity. What you would do is you would slide the shank of your mount into the receiver tube of your hitch and line up your pin hole. Then you would secure it by using the included hitch pin and clip, so that product is included. This is going to use a ball with a inch shank diameter. We have about inches of diameter here at our hitch ball hole.

The overall length of our mount is about 10 and a half inches and the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of our ball hole measures 7 inches. From the hitch pin hole to the back of the mount, we have a measurement of about 1 and 7/8th of an inch. With this installed in the drop position, youre going to have a maximum drop of 1 and a quarter inch and then if you have this installed in the rise position, its going to give you a rise of 5/8th of an inch.Thats going to complete todays review of part number 36051. Thats the Draw Tite Class II drawbar, with a 5/8th inch rise or 1 and inch drop, rated at 3500 pounds. .

I hooked up the draw bar today for the first time to the trailer that I built and the hitch I installed. The draw bar uses a cotter pin that slides on the bolt rather than going through a hole to mount the bar to the hitch. I have never used a sliding on pin in anything - I've only used those that go through a small hole matching the pin. This includes my farm tractor and other tools. I hope it is secure because it does slide on easily. The bar itself appears nice and strong. 230017

I am still happy with the items. However, I have not used them much over the past few months. But, they will get much more use in a couple of weeks. I am putting the finishing touches on a camper that I have been building for half a year.thanks,

This is the 2nd hitch package I've bought from etrailer.com. (The first was for a 2011 Outback, and this one was for a 2017 Outback.) And like the first, this order was handled perfectly by the etrailer rep. The hitch and drawbar arrived as promised and I had my mechanic install it yesterday. He said it was a fairly simple job (took him less than an hour) and the new wiring harness simply plugged in to the existing harness in the 2017 Outback (as opposed to having to be spliced in the 2011 Outback with the first hitch package). Also the price was very good... more competitive than buying it from, and having it installed by, a local dealer. All in all, it was a painless and pleasant experience. I will definitely buy my next hitch from etrailer when it's time to replace my 2017 Outback. 378659

Unit has worked well and held up. I only removed it once and that was for a week to travel for vacation. The paint is still like new, no rust can be seen. Unit creates no noise while driving with or without a trailer attached, not like a former hitch I had. 260022

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Ball Mounts
Do you have a question about this Ball Mount?

  • What is the Towing Capacity of a 2013 Honda CR-V
  • You are correct, the trailer hitch is rated higher than the 2013 Honda CR-V but you still have to go by the weight capacities of the vehicle since they are lower. So you will want to stay within the manufacturers 1500 pound limit, even though the hitch is rated higher. The 2300 pound trailer is going to be too much for the CR-V. You would either need a different tow vehicle or an even lighter trailer. If you go with a lighter trailer then you will also need a ball mount, pin and clip,...

  • Hitch, Drawbar, Hitch Ball, and Safety Chains Needed to Tow a Trailer
  • For your 2001 Kia Sportage, in addition to hitch # 36266, and wiring # HM43915, you will need a ball mount and a ball for the coupler on the trailer. You will also need safety chains unless the trailer comes with them. For a 1-1/4 inch by 1-1/4 inch opening, like the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 36266, use Class II Drawbar, # 36051. With this ball mount, use Hitch Ball, # 19256. To secure and lock the drawbar in place, use the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, # RH2-XL . For safety chains,...

  • Items Needed to Tow Pop-Up Camper With 2014 GMC Terrain
  • To hit the woods with your pop-up, you'll need a hitch, ball mount, trailer ball and wiring to provide power for the trailer lights and beer. (Just seeing if you're paying attention!) I'd recommend the Curt Class III, part # 13591, the Draw-Tite ball mount part # 2923 and for a 1-7/8 inch trailer ball you can use # 19260 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball. You'll also need a pin and clip, part # PC3 or a locking hitch pin, part # 40107. The coupler of your pop-up should say what ball size...

  • Ball Mount and 1-7/8 Inch Ball for Factory 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch on a 2014 Chevy Equinox
  • For any given Class I or II trailer hitch you are supposed to use the ball mount recommended by the hitch manufacturer because that is what the hitch and vehicle were tested with and given their rating based upon (including other factors). If the ball mount is not specified in the owners manual for your 2014 Chevy Equinox then I recommend ball mount # 36051 since it is the correct ball mount for an aftermarket Draw-Tite hitch (# 36408). For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256. You will be...

  • For the 2006 Subaru Forester there are only Class II hitches with 1-1/4 inch receivers available. The Draw-Tite hitch # 36311 and Curt hitch # C12038 are both rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight. The Curt hitch is rated for 350 pounds tongue weight and the Draw-Tite is rated for 300 pounds tongue weight. These capacities are greater than what the vehicle is capable of though. According to the owner's manual if the trailer has brakes then the vehicle can tow 2,400 pounds gross...

  • Recommended Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin for Solid Drawbar
  • Even though the Draw Tite Class II drawbar, # 36051, has a solid shank you can still use an anti-rattle device with a solid shank accessory. I recommend the No-Rattle Trailer Hitch Wedge, # 93347. I have included a video review of this anti-rattle device below.

  • What is the Recommended Ball Mount for a 2013 Subaru Outback Wagon
  • You will not want to drill any holes in the ball mount shank or the hitch itself. This will void the warranty and it can weaken the metal and make the capacity unknown. The best thing you can do is get a ball mount that has the length you need. There is no set length it has to be. Provided that it clears the rear of the vehicle and is not excessively extended (varies depending on the vehicle, hitch, and tongue weight of trailer) you can use a 14 inch long ball mount. If the trailer does not have brakes it is limited to 1,000 pounds gross trailer weight. So it can tow provided that the gross trailer weight capacity is within the capacities listed above. • Recommended Class II Trailer Hitch for Towing Small Utility Trailer w/ 2008 Subaru Forester
  • The Curt Class II trailer hitch you referenced, part # C12038 has a 3500 lb towing/350 lb tongue weight capacity. If you'll only be using the hitch for towing a trailer, it should work just fine for you. However, if you're wanting to use the hitch as an attachment point for other hitch mounted accessories like a cargo carrier or a bike rack, it wouldn't be the best choice. Curt's warranty requirement state that all non-trailer loads need to use a stabilizing strap, like part # 18050. The...

  • Everything Needed for a 2005 Hyundai Tucson to Tow a Trailer
  • You will need five separate parts to tow a trailer with your 2005 Hyundai Tuscon. You will need a trailer hitch, a ballmount, a pin & clip, a hitch ball, and a wiring harness. You have 7 different hitch options for your Tuscon. I would recommend purchasing and installing a hitch with a 2 inch receiver opening over a smaller 1-1/4 inch hitch opening; the larger hitch will give you a lot more options for accessories. Also, we happen to have a very competitively priced Curt Class III Trailer...

  • Will Draw-Tite Class II 1-1/4 Inch Hitch # 36246 Fit 2000 Ford Explorer With a Full Size Spare Tire
  • The Draw-Tite Class II 1-1/4 Inch Hitch, part # 36246, will fit your 2000 Ford Explorer 4WD with the factory OEM full size spare tire. When installing the hitch the spare tire is loosened to allow the hitch to line up with the holes on the frame and it is re-tightened after the hitch is installed. If your vehicle is equipped with tow hooks, they will need to be removed. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Draw-Tite hitch. If you plan on doing some towing...

  • Can Trim Panel of 2012 Toyota Sienna be Reinstalled after Draw Tite Hitch part # 36516 Installation
  • As far as the appearance panel is concerned there are two options when installing this Draw Tite Hitch part # 36513, you can either remove it all together or you can trim it. When they installed this hitch in the video you referenced on the 2012 they chose just to remove it. You could definitely reinstall the panel when you install this hitch on your vehicle as long as you trim it like the installation instructions recommend. To complete your towing setup you may also be interested...

  • Ground Clearance with Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch 36408 Installed on a 2014 Chevy Equinox
  • When we installed Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 36408 on a 2013 Chevy Equinox (it also fits 2014 models) it measured 14-1/4 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver opening. But to the bottom of the hitch it would be approximately 12-3/4 inches (subtracting 1-1/2 inches for the thickness of the metal and the receiver opening). This will likely be much better than on a VW Golf. If you plan on doing some towing the correct ball mount is # 36051. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendations for 2003 Subaru Forester
  • The vehicle and the structure under the car where the hitch attaches wouldn't be strong enough to withstand towing a Class III rated trailer, which is why a Class III hitch isn't available for your vehicle. None of our hitch manufacturers offer a Class III option for your 2003 Forester. The Draw-Tite Class II hitch, part # 36311 is a reasonably priced solution. For a trailer wiring harness, use part # 118461. You'll also need a ball mount like # 36051, but you will want to measure your...

  • What Ball Mount Is Needed For The VW Factory Hitch On A 2010 VW Tiguan
  • I do have another flat ball mount for the 1-1/4 inch hitch on a 2010 VW Tiguan. It is the Draw-Tite Class II Ball Mount, # 36051. I went to the warehouse and measured the distance from the weld to the center of the hitch pin hole and it measured 2-3/4 inches. You will want to measure the ball mount you have and see if this ball mount will work on your VW factory hitch. If the Draw-Tite ball mount will not work, then the VW factory ball mount might be the only ball mount to fit the...

  • Compatibility of the SportRack # SR2901 2-Bike Carrier Anti Rattle Pin with 2006 Subaru Forester
  • The anti-rattle hitch bolt included with the SportRack # SR2901 will work great with a class II receiver on your 2006 Forester. The bike rack also includes a bushing that will allow it to be used with a class III hitch with the 2 inch receiver opening. If you were not planning on using the receiver for towing purposes, I would recommend the Draw-Tite class II receiver, part # 36311. You might also need the following: Ball mount like # 36051 but will want to measure for rise or...

  • The Correct Drawbar for a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta with a Class I Hitch
  • For your 2003 VW Jetta, the drawbar, # 36051, will not work because Class II accessories are designed with a feature that keeps them from being used in a lower class hitch. So you will need to use the Sportframe Drawbar, # 3593, instead. I pulled all the recommended hitches for your vehicle and this is the drawbar that is recommended as the proper fit for those hitches. There is not, necessarily, a recommended length. The limiting factor is the gross trailer weight and tongue weight capacity....

  • Trailer Hitch with Best Ground Clearance and Trailer Wiring for a 2008 Toyota RAV4
  • A Class II trailer hitch can offer slightly more ground clearance compared to a Class III hitch with a 2 inch receiver for your 2008 Toyota RAV4. But looking at the available options for your vehicle I recommend Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 36588 which is a Class II hitch. From the ground to the top of the receiver opening measures approximately 13 inches. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. For the appropriate ball mount use # 36051 if you want to do some...

  • Yes. I am happy to say that the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 36474, will fit your 2010 V-dub Tiguan. I have included a link to the installation instructions below. The recommended ball mount is # 36051 for use with hitch balls # 19256, or # 19258. To wire your Tiguan with a 4 flat trailer connector you will need the Upgraded Circuit Protected Modulite with 4 Pole Harness and Hardwire Kit, # 119190KIT.
