Expert Reply:
The least noticeable trailer hitch we offer for your 2003 Toyota Avalon XLS is the Draw-Tite # 36293.
This Class II trailer hitch has a towing capacity of 300lbs tongue weight and 3,500lbs towing weight. You will want to be sure that your vehicle is capable of supporting this type of weight, just because the hitch is designed to doesn't mean the vehicle can, be sure to check your owners manual.
Some other items you will need to tow a small trailer are a ball mount and a ball like # 36051 and # 19258 (2 inch) or # 19256 (1-7/8 inch). To determine the right ball mount and ball for your needs you will need to measure and check which ball size your coupler will need. I have linked a Help Article on how to do this for your convenience.
If you need wiring to power the lights on your trailer you will want # C59496.
