Product Expert Lindsey S's Opinion

Why would I buy this?

  • Steel brackets do a good job of holding trailer in line to limit sway
  • Works with surge brakes and lets you back up without having to disconnect anything, unlike bar-style sway controls
  • If you need a bigger drop or rise, you won't be wasting money by getting a standard shank that you won't end up using

Why wouldn't I buy this?

  • Steel-on-steel brackets can create a lot of noise, especially during turns
  • With no friction or tension built into the head, there's still the chance for sway, especially with larger trailers
  • You'll have to buy the shank and hitch ball separately
Two points of steel-on-steel friction work to prevent and correct trailer sway in this weight distribution system. Sway control brackets help to ensure that your trailer stays in line with your tow vehicle. Adjustable shank sold separately. Lowest Prices for the best weight distribution from Fastway. Weight Distribution Diagram

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight-Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

Fastway e2 Sway Control

The two points of sway control within the e2 are created by the steel-on-steel friction that occurs when the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. Most traditional weight-distribution systems have spring bars that are suspended by chains. Although this ensures that the system is not so rigid as to create bounce in the trailer, it also allows a good deal of side-to-side play in the system.

The direct friction that is applied to the spring bars in the e2 system helps to stop sway once it has begun. The concept is similar to the way in which an add-on friction sway control device functions. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. The resistance created by this action limits the movement of the spring bar, thus preventing further side-to-side movement of the trailer.

Most add-on units feature some sort of friction material similar to that used in automotive brakes. But the e2 uses direct steel-on-steel contact to create resistance. This is the same sort of friction that is used with locomotives that pull loaded railcars weighing tons. No additional materials are needed. The steel will outlast any of those other materials, providing an extremely durable, functional sway-control system.

Video Transcript for Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Installation - 2014 Ram 2500

Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Ram 2500. We're going to be installing the Fastway E2 weight distribution system. Part number FA94-00-1033. To assist with this installation, we're also going to be using the equalizer weight distribution shank, part number EQ90-02-4900 and a two and 5/16 inch hitch ball for the equalizer weight distribution system part number EQ91-00-6120.So as you can see before when making turns, the trailer didn't want to follow closely behind the vehicle. Causing some angle that you really had to look out for in your mirror. And now it more closely follows behind me, making it a smoother, easier turn.So as you can see here while driving along, turning and going over bumps.

Without our weight distribution system, the trailer really like to sway. But now that we've got it installed, you can see the friction between the two are really holding it in place and minimizing that sway. Now you've got your truck and you've loaded up your trailer, and you take off and you notice it doesn't feel quite right. Well when you've got all that weight on the back, it lowers down your rear end and it lifts up on your front end, inhibiting your steering and braking performance. Also when it lifts up on your front, your headlights are aimed high. So when you're driving at night, you can't see quite as well as you used to.Another issue is that when you're taking tight turns, your trailer doesn't want to quite follow behind you correctly.

But with our weight distribution system from Fastway, it's going to reposition that trailer weight equally over your rear and front axles restoring your factory performance.Instead of having a single connection between your trailer and truck, the ball mount tension arms and brackets evenly support the weight of your trailer across its components and transfers that to your truck.Another issue you can run into with your trailer, you make an evasive maneuver, swerve around a pothole your trailer can then sway behind you. This Fastway system is going to help correct that issue as well, reducing that amount of sway. The L brackets have a friction materiel on top. So when your trailer starts to sway, it's going to provide that contact with your spring arm to help correct that sway more quickly. One of the best parts of this weight distribution system is how easy it is to install. As well as take off when you don't have your trailer hooked when you're not using it.

When you're done hauling your trailer, after you've lowered down your jack and disconnected your coupler, all you do is pull this pin here and your arms will drop out and you can store them for whenever you're ready to use it again. What else is great about this system is there's no unwanted play like in a chain style system. This has the friction material here that keeps it nice and sturdy and also gives us that anti-sway. And unlike other systems that have a separate sway control arm, you don't have to worry about anything when you're backing up. Those other systems can cause problems while backing up and turning. So you don't have to worry about anything like that with this system.

And if you don't want to modify the frame of your trailer, this systems great because there's no drilling required. It just clamps right on and all the hardware you need to get it installed comes included. Let's show you how to do that now.To start our installation, we're going to need to get some measurements. Both with the vehicle loaded and unloaded. Currently we have our trailer hooked up so it's in the loaded state. We're going to start at the drivers side rear tire and measure from the ground to the lower portion of the fender well. And right now we're measuring about 41 and a quarter inches. So we're going to jot that down and then take another measurement on our front wheel. Here we are at our drivers front wheel taking a measurement from the ground to the fender well and it's going to be about 40 and a half inches. Now that we've got both of our loaded measurements we're going to unload the vehicle by disconnecting our trailer and record those measurements. And it measures about 42 and a half inches. We'll now go to the front and record that measurement. And here at the front, we're measuring 40 and a quarter inches. So the differences between our loaded and unloaded vehicle while loaded, it's going to drop the rear end by one and a quarter inches. And raise our front end by a quarter inch. So when we install our weight distribution system, we're going to adjust it to compensate for that to bring it closer to our unloaded measurements. The next step is to level out our trailer. That way we can adjust our ball mount height properly. We've got a level up on the side of our trailer over there and we're just going to lower it down until it's leveled. Once the trailer's level, take a measurement from the ground to the top of your coupler so we know how high to adjust our ball mount. Looks like ours is about 21 and a quarter inches. We can then remove our old ball mount. Install our drop and prepare our weight distribution ball to be installed. You'll need to take the adjustment pin and you'll place washers on it. You can use between zero and seven washers. And this will adjust how much weight distribution you can apply. More washers means more weight distribution. Based on our measurements, we're going to start out with about four washers and adjust from there. If you had further drop than we did on your vehicle with your trailer installed, then you may need more washers to apply more weight distribution. We'll take those and slide it into the hole at the back top portion of the hitch here. Slide the large conical tooth washers on your large bolts. Face the teeth away from the head of the bolt. Raise your ball mount up into position and we want to try and get it about even with our trailer, so the measurement we took before is about what we're aiming for. We're going to start in this position, take a measurement and try it out. Slide it through one of your opening holes. Then we'll take a quick measurement just to see where we're at. You'll want to press it up against the spacer that we had placed in before. So that way you get a good measurement. And we're at about 22 and a quarter. So we're a little bit higher here. But we're also at our lowest adjustment. So we're going to go with this position for now.Once you found an appropriate position, take your other bolt with conical tooth washer and slide it in the opposite direction in the other hole. Take your other two conical tooth washers, and put them in with the teeth facing towards the ball mount. Then thread on the nyloc nuts. Tight down your adjustment bolt until your spacer comes into contact with your drop shank. And just make it so it's snug.Next tighten down your ball mount bolts. You'll do this with a 1/8 inch socket and 1/16 inch socket. And then torque your bolts to the specification in your instructions. Do that for both bolts. Now we're going to install the sway bar L bracket mounts onto our trailer. These clamps will go around the frame on your trailer. We'll install those by sliding a bolt through the bracket with two studs on it, through the other bracket. And then threading a nut on the other side. We'll then slide these down over our trailer and we'll need to make our appropriate measurement with the correct location. Before we set the correct positioning and tighten it down, we want to make sure there's no wiring or hosing in the way. Make sure it's on the outside of the clamp, so nothing squeezed between the clamp and the frame. We'll now position the clamps per the measurement in the instructions. It wants it to be at 27 inches. So you have to check to make sure that you have clearance on your frame there, which we do.Now if you don't have clearance there, let's say your tanks we're in the way. You can position it as far forward as 24 inches. Since ours works at 27, we're going to place it there. Then again slide your bolt through the outside. Then the inside bracket and position your nut on the other side. You can now tighten those nuts down.If it's in the appropriate position, we'll torque it to the specifications in our instructions. You want to alternate back and forth when tightening down your hardware. So as not to tighten one side further than the other. And then repeat this same process on the other side. Making sure that your measurements for the brackets are the same.Place on your L adjustment bracket with the angle facing out. Which hole you have it on will adjust how much tension you're going to get from your weight distribution system. Having it all the way down will be your lowest. Having it all the way up will give you the most. For our setup here, we're going to start with the lowest adjustment and then go from there. Take the thin nyloc nuts included. Then thread those on the end. And then tighten them down using a 3/4 inch socket. Then repeat the same process on the other side. We're now ready to back up our vehicle and reconnect our trailer so we can install the adjustment arms. Before we install our tension arms, I'm going to take a little bit of wheel bearing grease and put it up inside the hole. As this arms going to pivot around, this will prevent any wear and allow it to rotate freely. It'll also make it easier when inserting and removing it for storage.Simply slide your tension arm up into the hole and it will click into place. Then do that with the other bar. Now you want to check to see if you can put it on. It's good that while the vehicle's loaded with the trailer that you cannot put it on. That indicates that your not adjusted too loosely. In order to put it on, you'll want to then lift up the vehicle and trailer while it's still connected using your jack. Our vehicle and trailer are now lifted up by our jack. And we still can't get it installed all the way. The included tool will hook underneath the arm and then inside the square slot, it can be used to pry it into place. Take the L hold down pin with the hole downward and slide it into the square slot. Then use the cotter pin provided to hold it into place. You'll do the same thing on the other side. We've got our system full installed here. So now it's time to recheck our measurements at our front and rear tire and compare them to our unloaded measurements. Here we are again at our driver's rear tire and we're measuring 41 and 3/4 inches. Our previous loaded measurement was 41 and a quarter inch. So we've lifted up our rear end by a half inch. And now we're at our driver's front tire and we're measuring 40 and 1/8 inches. Our previous loaded measurement was 40 and a half inches. So we've lowered it down the front by 3/8 of an inch. Our unloaded measurement was 40 and a quarter inch. So we're even an eighth of an inch lower there. So as you can see our weight has been distributed evenly across our vehicle. Then you want to come back and check the level on your trailer. If everything's level, then you're good to go. If it's still positioned up too high or too low, you may need to reposition your ball mount slightly higher or lower on your drop. Now that everything's' properly adjusted, go back and make sure that all of your hardware is tightened and torqued to the specifications in your instructions. With the system set and adjust properly we're ready to load up our trailer and hit the road. And that completes our installation of the Fastway E2 weight distribution system on our 2014 RAM 2500.

Seems to work great. Have done a trial tow around the neighborhood. True test will be a real trip out of town. Was pretty easy to set up. Do not tighten the mounting bolts to shank until after the setup height, angles, etc are set. The lock tight material in those belts makes is REALLY hard to undo them if you need to. 719708

Great for safe towing! Use this on my flat bed racecar hauler, about 6k# total and my 1/2 ton Yukon feels like a 3/4 ton. Follow directions to setup properly and it feels great. Note that I had to put the car a few inches rearward after the hitch because of how it distributes the weight. Also for GM vehicles with stabilitrak, Puch the button and release once to turn off traction control, then hold it down until stabilitrak turns off or else it will disable itself and bark at you for half a dozen drives after the hitch is removed. 615782

Got the hitch in 2 days, installed it via instructions and a few videos. No problems, works as advertised, usual awesomeness from etrailer. Installed it on a 5K pound 27 foot travel trailer, hitch weight 550... towing with '07 Tundra, 5.7L, pulls like a champ. 493707

I have had this hitch/weight distribution setup for a year now and I am very pleased. The trailer hookup is a simple process and the trailer is level. The built in sway control seems to be doing the trick, no issues. I am pulling a 29' Nash 25c with a GVW of 8500 lbs with a 2012 Tundra Crewmax. 605486

I tried to buy a weight distribution hitch from mail order company and they sent me the wrong one twice. Twice. I shipped them both back (Pain in the butt) and ordered it from you guys for $15 more. It came not only Free Shipping, but correct and in two days! You have me hooked! Thanks! (I'm going on vacation with my family and needed this leveling hitch!) 682731

Bought this for a 4th Gen Ram 2500, to use with our travel trailer. I liked that i had to purchase the hitch shank separately, due to most WD hitches, dont come with the proper shank for taller trucks anyway. This is a great product, and was easy to install. Definitely helped with the sway. We didnt have much sag to start, due to the heavier truck. It did also take the small sag we had out completely. I would purchase again if needed. 651834

The solution to dangerous issues. This system resolved many of my towing issues. I tow a food trailer. The hitch sagged and the lowered hitch raised the front end of my SUV. I also experienced sway and buffeting when tractor-trailers passed. Windy, wet nights and big trucks were white-knuckle drives. NO MORE. Nobody does it better than etrailer! They answer their phone! They are truly knowledgeable about their products and care about their clients. My first call directed me to my precise options. I ordered it on-line and it arrived a day ahead of schedule. I watched their exceptional installation video three times before attempting installation. This is what sets ET apart. They did not have one video - they had two - one for a truck and one for an SUV / VAN. What was not covered in the videos was only a call away. PAY ATTENTION HERE: The rig uses a set of stacked-washers to adjust the "angle" of the hitch ball. The more washers you use - the greater the angle and the higher the tension of the torsion bar. If you begin with too many washers, you may find that after you use the provided torsion bar installer (a variant on a crow-bar) to install your torsion/control-bars. YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET THE BARS BACK OFF! That was my case. And if you cannot get the bars off - you cannot remove the tow vehicle. I had no idea how to release all of that pressure without potentially hurting myself. Ugh. ONE CALL - THAT'S ALL! A quick call to ET. The rep understood my problem but he also understood that mine was a dangerous issue and sought additional help internally. He came back with "...this is going to sound odd but trust me. Chock your wheels. Raise your tow vehicle from the center of the tow bar until you raise your rear wheels off of the ground and until you can move the bars manually (a light tap with a hammer is a good indicator as to whether you have relieved enough pressure by raising the tow vehicle). When you can swing the bars manually - swing them out and away from the trailer and if you swing them far enough toward the tow vehicle, they will simply fall out of their socket. (There is also a release tab you can pull out - but I prefer this method.) It WORKED! Adjusting this type of system can be an arduous task that is well worth the effort and no company does a better job of selling, educating and servicing than ET. My local tow shop wanted to install a "chain" system without sway control and when I asked him what he thought of the "bar" systems - he said, "...hmm, I've never seen those before". Go with the experts and your own mechanical expertise. ET has your back. 593977

The hitch is great! I installed the FA92-00-0600 on my 2014 Acura MDX to pull my 2019 Geo Pro 19BH camper. It is night and day between the old and new hitch. Way less bounce and herky jerky when starting and stopping. Really pleased with the hitch. Installation was straight forward though it took a bit of time to dial in just right. You also need some big wrenches for sure. I also bought the ALL643216 socket to attach the EQ91-00-6100 hitch ball. The packaging left something to be desired. Part of the box was falling apart and things fell out of the box when I moved it off my doorstep. The hitch is almost 100 lbs so I'm not totally surprised, but this could be improved for sure. 654983

Great sway control for 3500# travel trailer towed behind full-size pickup truck. Easy to install if you have the right tools. Does not come with a hitch ball, you can purchase the right size for a reasonable price that fits your trailer. The bars do creak when you are parking but I suppose I could grease them (where they attach to the trailer) but that could get messy during disassembly. I have had to tighten the bolts a few times, but that is expected after a bunch of miles of towing. 635215

Used for a 15k cross-country trip towing a Winnebago 2106FBS. On road, it is a great help; it is imperative to pay attention to height and angle of hitch. If it is consistently difficult to leverage the friction bars, the installation must be tuned. Keep wrenches nearby for adjustments and tightening. I bought this product to pull our 20' Winnebago Micro Minnie with our Honda Pilot. It works great and we have never had a bit of sway with it. I especially like the fact that I can back the trailer without removing the anti-sway control which would be a big headache in most situations. 561425

Very nicely made. Haven't towed with it yet- bought it to replace a regular WD hitch. Had an external friction sway control on my old hitch but didn't want to drill holes in my new trailer's aluminum tongue. Hopefully the built in sway control will work out, I like having no external parts. 524064

This hitch has been amazing! So far I have put over 2500 miles on it pulling a 6000+ lb trailer with my F150 and I have been incredibly satisfied. The hitch is very easy to hook up and disconnect and the ride is great. This distributes the weight perfectly and the ride is great. I like this way better than the chain style WDH that I used on my last camper. I particularly like that this unit handles sway control without an additional friction device. I have had zero problems with sway, bouncing, or ride control since installing this. I highly recommend it! 411176

Over 6600 miles on this hitch, and not a problem! We have driven from Michigan to Niagara Falls, Florida, and countless places closer to home. I have hooked/unhooked this hitch 50+ times and it is extremely quick and easy. I am still highly satisfied with this hitch and recommend it to everybody I know who is getting started.

Love it! Easy to follow install instructions. Simple / quick hook up and removal. Fortunately we recieved all parts as the box was completely blown out upon arrival with bolts, washers, and trunnion bars falling out across my driveway. UPS really does not care about the cargo they carry, but I know if parts were missing that etrailer would make it right! 584803

A year and several thousand miles later this system is still working great. It really keeps the sway under control, especially in heavy crosswinds. Easy to install, and even easier to connect/disconnect. I highly recommend this system. I pull a 3500# travel trailer with it. 497733

  • Can the Shank on the 10K Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System Be Flipped for More Drop
The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System part # FA92-00-1000 comes with a shank that can provide a max of 6" rise or 1" drop. That said, these measurements already reflect the shank being flipped or inverted so no matter which direction the shank was installed you could still only achieve 1" drop. However, I do have an option for you that does not require you to buy two shanks, the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System part # FA94-00-1033 and the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Shank part...

  • Fastway Weight Distribution for a V-Nose Trailer with Limited Space on Frame
With a trailer weighing 3,820 pounds the tongue weight will be in the neighborhood of 380 to 573 pounds which is 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. But to that you also need to add in the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. So for example if you had 100 pounds of gear behind the tow vehicle rear axle that would make the tongue weight 480 to 673 pounds. The minimum tongue weight for the Fastway system, # FA94-00-1033, to be effective is 400 pounds....

  • Weight Distribution System Recommendation without a Shank for 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch
All of the Curt weight distribution systems come with a shank but for a similar system that does not come with a shank I recommend Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW - Without Shank Item # FA94-00-1033. Then you could add a 2-1/2 inch shank such as # EQ90-02-4800, or a similar shank. You will also need a ball, # 19286. I have also included some links on determining tongue weight and weight distribution for you.

  • Weight Distribution Needed for Towing a 5,600 lb Camper with a 2014 Ram 1500
I believe the video you were referring to the linked video of the Fastway e2 # FA94-00-1033. Although the system is rated similarly to the Fastway e2 # FA92-00-1000 that you referenced, this video was shot more for demonstration purposes than anything. Personally I prefer the trunnion style bars like what you referenced as they have better ground clearance than the round bar systems. To determine the best Weight Distribution (WD) system for your towing setup you will first need to find...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 2005 Jayco Jay Feather 23B
The best weight distribution system we have for your 2005 Jayco Jay Feather 23B with cost in mind is the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control part # FA94-00-1033. This system will be perfect for your estimated 600-800 lbs of tongue weight as it is rated for 600-1,000 lbs. If you are slightly under the tongue weight range of this system at any given time then you need not worry but you will not want to go over this. Please note that in addition to the total tongue weight...

  • Minimum Acceptable Tongue Weight of Fastway E2 Weight Distribution Kit Part # FA94-00-1033
The minimum recommended tongue weight for the Fastway E2 Weight Distribution system is 400 lbs. This has been confirmed by my Fastway representative. Fastway offers the same system that includes the weight distributing shank, part # FA94-00-1000. The shank offers a maximum rise of 6-3/8" from top of hitch receiver opening and a maximum drop of 1-5/8" from top of hitch receiver opening. The trailer ball is sold separately as part # A-90 for a 2 inch ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball. ...

  • Will Shank from Curt Weight Distribution System Work with Fastway e2 Kit # FA94-00-1033
The great thing about weight distribution systems is that they all use the same shank style so the shanks and systems are interchangeable between brands. So if you have a Curt weight distribution shank currently it will work just fine with the Fastway e2 kit part # FA94-00-1033 that you referenced.

  • Weight Distribution System for a 2014 Jeep Wrangler with 3 Inch Lift
There is only one size shank that comes with the Curt weight distribution systems so you would have to get a different shank separately if more drop is needed. What I recommend though is Fastway system # FA94-00-1033. It doesn't come with a shank so you can order one to go with it that has the right amount of drop such as # C17123. With this system you will also need a ball, # 19286, for a 2-5/16 inch ball. I have linked a video review of the Fastway system for you.

  • Replacement Spring Bar for Fastway E2 Weight Distribution System # FA94-00-1033
Yes you can, the replacement spring bar you need is the part # FA94-02-1099 for the FastWay e2 kit part # FA94-00-1033 you referenced having. For my own personal curiosity did the bar come off while travelling or did you lose it while parked?

  • Will a Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System Work with a Lifted 2004 GMC Sierra 1500
The Fastway e2 weight distribution system # FA94-00-1033 is rated for a maximum of 1,000 pounds tongue weight. To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. So if your total tongue weight is under 1,000 pounds then the system will work for you. For a compatible...

  • Can You Use the Fastway Weight Distribution System With a Weigh Safe Ball Mount Built-In Scale
The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA94-00-1033 that you asked about has a ball mount built into it. You will actually just need to get a shank like the Fastway e2 # FA92-02-4315 to connect the Weight Distribution System if you have a 2 inch hitch receiver. Since the Fastway e2 # FA90-00-1033 has a built-in ball mount, the Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount # WS10-2 will not fit with it. If you are needing a 2 inch Hitch Ball, I recommend using the Curt # A-90. This will install directly onto...

  • Correct Shank for 7" Drop with Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Round Bar System
Even though your weight distribution (WD) shank (I believe is part # FA92-02-4100) has about a 7" drop, since drop/rise is measured to the trailer coupler (the ball mount platform basically) this means that the max drop of a WD shank won't equal the max rise of the shank when it is inverted due to head assembly installing with 2 bolts. To achieve a true 7" max drop you would have to disregard the bottom bolt for the head unit and only use the top bolt hole of the head unit # FA94-00-1033...

  • Weight Distribution System Replacement Parts
The round spring bars and friction anti-sway arm you have remaining from your weight distribution system can be re-used with a replacement shank and head assembly. All WD shanks, such as part # C17123 for 2-inch hitches, are standardized so you can use any brand of shank as a replacement. However, the spring bars, head assembly and trailer brackets are specific to the brand and model of system. You will either need to confirm the brand and series of bars you have to know the proper items...
