Weight Distribution Diagram

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight-Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight-distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight-distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight-distribution system.

Fastway e2 Sway Control

The two points of sway control within the e2 are created by the steel-on-steel friction that occurs when the spring bars slide within the L-brackets that are mounted on the trailer tongue. Most traditional weight-distribution systems have spring bars that are suspended by chains. Although this ensures that the system is not so rigid as to create bounce in the trailer, it also allows a good deal of side-to-side play in the system.

The direct friction that is applied to the spring bars in the e2 system helps to stop sway once it has begun. The concept is similar to the way in which an add-on friction sway control device functions. When each spring bar moves forward or backward, or side to side, it rubs along the bracket, creating friction. The resistance created by this action limits the movement of the spring bar, thus preventing further side-to-side movement of the trailer.

Most add-on units feature some sort of friction material similar to that used in automotive brakes. But the e2 uses direct steel-on-steel contact to create resistance. This is the same sort of friction that is used with locomotives that pull loaded railcars weighing tons. No additional materials are needed. The steel will outlast any of those other materials, providing an extremely durable, functional sway-control system.

Video Transcript for Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Installation - 2014 Ram 2500

Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Ram 2500. We're going to be installing the Fastway E2 weight distribution system. Part number FA94-00-1033. To assist with this installation, we're also going to be using the equalizer weight distribution shank, part number EQ90-02-4900 and a two and 5/16 inch hitch ball for the equalizer weight distribution system part number EQ91-00-6120.So as you can see before when making turns, the trailer didn't want to follow closely behind the vehicle. Causing some angle that you really had to look out for in your mirror. And now it more closely follows behind me, making it a smoother, easier turn.So as you can see here while driving along, turning and going over bumps.

Without our weight distribution system, the trailer really like to sway. But now that we've got it installed, you can see the friction between the two are really holding it in place and minimizing that sway. Now you've got your truck and you've loaded up your trailer, and you take off and you notice it doesn't feel quite right. Well when you've got all that weight on the back, it lowers down your rear end and it lifts up on your front end, inhibiting your steering and braking performance. Also when it lifts up on your front, your headlights are aimed high. So when you're driving at night, you can't see quite as well as you used to.Another issue is that when you're taking tight turns, your trailer doesn't want to quite follow behind you correctly.

But with our weight distribution system from Fastway, it's going to reposition that trailer weight equally over your rear and front axles restoring your factory performance.Instead of having a single connection between your trailer and truck, the ball mount tension arms and brackets evenly support the weight of your trailer across its components and transfers that to your truck.Another issue you can run into with your trailer, you make an evasive maneuver, swerve around a pothole your trailer can then sway behind you. This Fastway system is going to help correct that issue as well, reducing that amount of sway. The L brackets have a friction materiel on top. So when your trailer starts to sway, it's going to provide that contact with your spring arm to help correct that sway more quickly. One of the best parts of this weight distribution system is how easy it is to install. As well as take off when you don't have your trailer hooked when you're not using it.

When you're done hauling your trailer, after you've lowered down your jack and disconnected your coupler, all you do is pull this pin here and your arms will drop out and you can store them for whenever you're ready to use it again. What else is great about this system is there's no unwanted play like in a chain style system. This has the friction material here that keeps it nice and sturdy and also gives us that anti-sway. And unlike other systems that have a separate sway control arm, you don't have to worry about anything when you're backing up. Those other systems can cause problems while backing up and turning. So you don't have to worry about anything like that with this system.

And if you don't want to modify the frame of your trailer, this systems great because there's no drilling required. It just clamps right on and all the hardware you need to get it installed comes included. Let's show you how to do that now.To start our installation, we're going to need to get some measurements. Both with the vehicle loaded and unloaded. Currently we have our trailer hooked up so it's in the loaded state. We're going to start at the drivers side rear tire and measure from the ground to the lower portion of the fender well. And right now we're measuring about 41 and a quarter inches. So we're going to jot that down and then take another measurement on our front wheel. Here we are at our drivers front wheel taking a measurement from the ground to the fender well and it's going to be about 40 and a half inches. Now that we've got both of our loaded measurements we're going to unload the vehicle by disconnecting our trailer and record those measurements. And it measures about 42 and a half inches. We'll now go to the front and record that measurement. And here at the front, we're measuring 40 and a quarter inches. So the differences between our loaded and unloaded vehicle while loaded, it's going to drop the rear end by one and a quarter inches. And raise our front end by a quarter inch. So when we install our weight distribution system, we're going to adjust it to compensate for that to bring it closer to our unloaded measurements. The next step is to level out our trailer. That way we can adjust our ball mount height properly. We've got a level up on the side of our trailer over there and we're just going to lower it down until it's leveled. Once the trailer's level, take a measurement from the ground to the top of your coupler so we know how high to adjust our ball mount. Looks like ours is about 21 and a quarter inches. We can then remove our old ball mount. Install our drop and prepare our weight distribution ball to be installed. You'll need to take the adjustment pin and you'll place washers on it. You can use between zero and seven washers. And this will adjust how much weight distribution you can apply. More washers means more weight distribution. Based on our measurements, we're going to start out with about four washers and adjust from there. If you had further drop than we did on your vehicle with your trailer installed, then you may need more washers to apply more weight distribution. We'll take those and slide it into the hole at the back top portion of the hitch here. Slide the large conical tooth washers on your large bolts. Face the teeth away from the head of the bolt. Raise your ball mount up into position and we want to try and get it about even with our trailer, so the measurement we took before is about what we're aiming for. We're going to start in this position, take a measurement and try it out. Slide it through one of your opening holes. Then we'll take a quick measurement just to see where we're at. You'll want to press it up against the spacer that we had placed in before. So that way you get a good measurement. And we're at about 22 and a quarter. So we're a little bit higher here. But we're also at our lowest adjustment. So we're going to go with this position for now.Once you found an appropriate position, take your other bolt with conical tooth washer and slide it in the opposite direction in the other hole. Take your other two conical tooth washers, and put them in with the teeth facing towards the ball mount. Then thread on the nyloc nuts. Tight down your adjustment bolt until your spacer comes into contact with your drop shank. And just make it so it's snug.Next tighten down your ball mount bolts. You'll do this with a 1/8 inch socket and 1/16 inch socket. And then torque your bolts to the specification in your instructions. Do that for both bolts. Now we're going to install the sway bar L bracket mounts onto our trailer. These clamps will go around the frame on your trailer. We'll install those by sliding a bolt through the bracket with two studs on it, through the other bracket. And then threading a nut on the other side. We'll then slide these down over our trailer and we'll need to make our appropriate measurement with the correct location. Before we set the correct positioning and tighten it down, we want to make sure there's no wiring or hosing in the way. Make sure it's on the outside of the clamp, so nothing squeezed between the clamp and the frame. We'll now position the clamps per the measurement in the instructions. It wants it to be at 27 inches. So you have to check to make sure that you have clearance on your frame there, which we do.Now if you don't have clearance there, let's say your tanks we're in the way. You can position it as far forward as 24 inches. Since ours works at 27, we're going to place it there. Then again slide your bolt through the outside. Then the inside bracket and position your nut on the other side. You can now tighten those nuts down.If it's in the appropriate position, we'll torque it to the specifications in our instructions. You want to alternate back and forth when tightening down your hardware. So as not to tighten one side further than the other. And then repeat this same process on the other side. Making sure that your measurements for the brackets are the same.Place on your L adjustment bracket with the angle facing out. Which hole you have it on will adjust how much tension you're going to get from your weight distribution system. Having it all the way down will be your lowest. Having it all the way up will give you the most. For our setup here, we're going to start with the lowest adjustment and then go from there. Take the thin nyloc nuts included. Then thread those on the end. And then tighten them down using a 3/4 inch socket. Then repeat the same process on the other side. We're now ready to back up our vehicle and reconnect our trailer so we can install the adjustment arms. Before we install our tension arms, I'm going to take a little bit of wheel bearing grease and put it up inside the hole. As this arms going to pivot around, this will prevent any wear and allow it to rotate freely. It'll also make it easier when inserting and removing it for storage.Simply slide your tension arm up into the hole and it will click into place. Then do that with the other bar. Now you want to check to see if you can put it on. It's good that while the vehicle's loaded with the trailer that you cannot put it on. That indicates that your not adjusted too loosely. In order to put it on, you'll want to then lift up the vehicle and trailer while it's still connected using your jack. Our vehicle and trailer are now lifted up by our jack. And we still can't get it installed all the way. The included tool will hook underneath the arm and then inside the square slot, it can be used to pry it into place. Take the L hold down pin with the hole downward and slide it into the square slot. Then use the cotter pin provided to hold it into place. You'll do the same thing on the other side. We've got our system full installed here. So now it's time to recheck our measurements at our front and rear tire and compare them to our unloaded measurements. Here we are again at our driver's rear tire and we're measuring 41 and 3/4 inches. Our previous loaded measurement was 41 and a quarter inch. So we've lifted up our rear end by a half inch. And now we're at our driver's front tire and we're measuring 40 and 1/8 inches. Our previous loaded measurement was 40 and a half inches. So we've lowered it down the front by 3/8 of an inch. Our unloaded measurement was 40 and a quarter inch. So we're even an eighth of an inch lower there. So as you can see our weight has been distributed evenly across our vehicle. Then you want to come back and check the level on your trailer. If everything's level, then you're good to go. If it's still positioned up too high or too low, you may need to reposition your ball mount slightly higher or lower on your drop. Now that everything's' properly adjusted, go back and make sure that all of your hardware is tightened and torqued to the specifications in your instructions. With the system set and adjust properly we're ready to load up our trailer and hit the road. And that completes our installation of the Fastway E2 weight distribution system on our 2014 RAM 2500.

Great for safe towing! Use this on my flat bed racecar hauler, about 6k# total and my 1/2 ton Yukon feels like a 3/4 ton. Follow directions to setup properly and it feels great. Note that I had to put the car a few inches rearward after the hitch because of how it distributes the weight. Also for GM vehicles with stabilitrak, Puch the button and release once to turn off traction control, then hold it down until stabilitrak turns off or else it will disable itself and bark at you for half a dozen drives after the hitch is removed. 615782

I have had this hitch/weight distribution setup for a year now and I am very pleased. The trailer hookup is a simple process and the trailer is level. The built in sway control seems to be doing the trick, no issues. I am pulling a 29' Nash 25c with a GVW of 8500 lbs with a 2012 Tundra Crewmax. 605486

Got the hitch in 2 days, installed it via instructions and a few videos. No problems, works as advertised, usual awesomeness from etrailer. Installed it on a 5K pound 27 foot travel trailer, hitch weight 550... towing with '07 Tundra, 5.7L, pulls like a champ. 493707

Bought this for a 4th Gen Ram 2500, to use with our travel trailer. I liked that i had to purchase the hitch shank separately, due to most WD hitches, dont come with the proper shank for taller trucks anyway. This is a great product, and was easy to install. Definitely helped with the sway. We didnt have much sag to start, due to the heavier truck. It did also take the small sag we had out completely. I would purchase again if needed. 651834

Review from a similar Fastway e2 in Weight Distribution

Not my first experience with etrailer. Have purchased 4 hitches from them and every experience has been great. Just bought the Fastway e2 10,000 lb hitch to pull a new travel trailer and picked up the trailer today. I was somewhat concerned about picking it up today because the wind has been blowing at 15 to 20 mph. If you have pulled a TT in wind you know how it can cause unnerving sway. I have had white knuckle experiences with my other TT and hitch but this was not my experience today. There was only 1 time which I felt the sway from the wind on the way home and that was not significant. I believe I purchased a good hitch and I know I bought it from the right dealer. 496556

Works well but is noisier than when new. Wish there was something could be done to make it quieter.

The noise you're hearing is the metal on metal friction that occurs between the spring bars and the trailer frame brackets. This is what prevents the trailer from swaying. Unfortunately, the noise is unavoidable as any lubrication added would render the sway control ineffective.

Review from a similar Fastway e2 in Weight Distribution

The Fastway Weight Distribution Hitch with anti-sway works great. I installed Firestone Airlifts to my suspension as well. Very stable ride. The combination of air bags and WDH makes us feel a bit safer as well. It's fun to see folks on the highway who got it right, as opposed to those that didn't. This hitch may be load rated a little high for my set-up though - not much flex to the 8,000 lb. bars. We're pulling a 2003 Casita Spirit Deluxe with 2001 Isuzu Rodeo with only 205 HP...We are taking a two week trip next month. After, we will purchase a Toyota TRD Off Road Premium for the next trip - a little more HP and modern electronics! I think the Fastway the best setup for the money. We could have sprung for the Anderson system, but, why? This one does what is supposed to do. The only thing I would like to see improved is the noise it makes when turning corners sometimes. The bars make a pretty loud screeching sound. Like a large metal cattle gate with rusty hinges opening real slow. Any ideas on how to quiet this down? We're not supposed to lubricate. That would take the safety out of the anti-sway. Thank you Lisa D. for all of the time spent with me figuring out the best options for our needs. 517499

The noise you hear is caused by the metal-on-metal friction caused by the downward force applied to the frame brackets by the spring bars. This friction is what provides the sway control. As you mentioned, lubricating the contact points would completely defeat the sway control feature. Unfortunately, the noise is just the nature of the beast with this type of product.

Working out well. I think I would order the 6,000 lb. Round bars if I had to do it again. The 8,000 lb. Bars ride a little rough. I now have a 2018 4runner for a TV and not using air bags. Much better in terms of HP and ride.

I like it very much. Easy to install, but you may need a torque wrench to get the 250 ft-lbs required to tighten the head bolts. I used my weight and math to do it. Worked well. The ability to change the height of the ball when you change trailers or trucks it the strong suit for this hitch and it comes will the ball attached and torqued. Great value. 566751

Very helpful salespeople. Products are priced competitively. Folks in the packaging department need to take more care - my hitch receiver had the powdercoat rubbed off in (3) places and the load leveling hitch destroyed the styrofoam packaging due to the heavy weight of the components. HEY, BUY SOME BUBBLE WRAP! It's cheap and does the trick. 569837

All though I have hardly gotten to use the hitch I am very please with it. I have installed it on my 2013 1985 Lance TT being pulled with a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. e-trialer has been great the customer rep handling my order expedited my order, without being asked, and the hitch was delivered to me in Oregon in 6 days, just in time for the delivery of my new TT. etrailer had the lowest price for the hitch and thanks to the free shipping it came in under anyone else. Thank you keep up the great work. Chuck 68518

Review from a similar Fastway e2 in Weight Distribution

The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution hitch has been excellent for towing my 5000lb travel trailer, and was a good deal here on etrailer.com. The 2 way sway control keeps everything steady, and is the best I have ever used in my many years of towing travel trailers. The only problem I have experienced with it, is that when pulling out of Gas Stations or anywhere there is a small curb or gutter, it tends to drag. This usually causes the sway bar mount to get knocked out of alignment. 453910

Good product. Works as advertised. The weld radius on one side is not too clean, making it difficult to secure the riser bar with the 90-deg pin. 364255

Review from a similar Fastway e2 in Weight Distribution

I will update this review after I have installed the Weight Distribution system on my unit, but I wanted to give a special thank you to Vanessa who did an outstanding job of getting me a part that had broken out of the box during shipment. She did a great job of keeping me up to date on the status of my missing item. The item was very heavy and the packing it came in today was outstanding. Many thanks. 518453

The Weight Distribution system has been working great. I have had only one minor problem in that the L bracket hangers have bowed slightly which has caused the bottom of the hanger to shift to the rear of the trailer. I have torque the hanger bolts per the installation instructions. Since the bottom bolt of the hanger assembly does not touch the bottom of the trailer rail, I am going to try and add a spacer between it an the trailer rail to see if that alleviates the issue. Load sharing is great and I have never had the trailer sway on me at all. I am open to suggestions on other ways to solve this issue. By the way I am in the process of upgrading this unit for my new toy hauler. Going up to the 1,200 12,000 lb unit.

Works great, setup was easy and the stability it added was awesome. The campers has twice the service area as the tow vehicle, and even in crazy hurricane season winds in Florida I didn't sway in the least. The unit itself is an awkward shape and I had a hard time installing the ball. There is not enough room to use a standard socket to tighten the nut, and using wrenches was time consuming and aggravating so one star for that. Once your past that hurdle though it is a great product and recommended. 484610

The Fastway E2 hitch works great and was really easy to assemble. Just had a hard time getting the ball and nut on because there isn't a socket that fits in the location the nut sits. So we put a pipe wrench on the ball side. Other then that, this hitch is built well and you can back up with it all hooked up, it bolts on easily and serves 2 purposes. The lady from etrailer.com that I spoke with was the best of all. She has the know how and experience to get me set up with the proper size hitch. Or I would have done the bigger is better thing. 236657

Our friends (who had a large Roo trailer) recommended that we get he Equalizer E2 trunnion hitch for our 26-foot Jayco mated to our F150. Everything has been great. It is easy to hook up and disconnect, and when pulling, the trailer is stable and we have had no swaying of any kind. Our [retailer] tech installed it, and we are totally happy with it. 348753

Review from a similar Fastway e2 in Weight Distribution

The solution to dangerous issues. This system resolved many of my towing issues. I tow a food trailer. The hitch sagged and the lowered hitch raised the front end of my SUV. I also experienced sway and buffeting when tractor-trailers passed. Windy, wet nights and big trucks were white-knuckle drives. NO MORE. Nobody does it better than etrailer! They answer their phone! They are truly knowledgeable about their products and care about their clients. My first call directed me to my precise options. I ordered it on-line and it arrived a day ahead of schedule. I watched their exceptional installation video three times before attempting installation. This is what sets ET apart. They did not have one video - they had two - one for a truck and one for an SUV / VAN. What was not covered in the videos was only a call away. PAY ATTENTION HERE: The rig uses a set of stacked-washers to adjust the "angle" of the hitch ball. The more washers you use - the greater the angle and the higher the tension of the torsion bar. If you begin with too many washers, you may find that after you use the provided torsion bar installer (a variant on a crow-bar) to install your torsion/control-bars. YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET THE BARS BACK OFF! That was my case. And if you cannot get the bars off - you cannot remove the tow vehicle. I had no idea how to release all of that pressure without potentially hurting myself. Ugh. ONE CALL - THAT'S ALL! A quick call to ET. The rep understood my problem but he also understood that mine was a dangerous issue and sought additional help internally. He came back with "...this is going to sound odd but trust me. Chock your wheels. Raise your tow vehicle from the center of the tow bar until you raise your rear wheels off of the ground and until you can move the bars manually (a light tap with a hammer is a good indicator as to whether you have relieved enough pressure by raising the tow vehicle). When you can swing the bars manually - swing them out and away from the trailer and if you swing them far enough toward the tow vehicle, they will simply fall out of their socket. (There is also a release tab you can pull out - but I prefer this method.) It WORKED! Adjusting this type of system can be an arduous task that is well worth the effort and no company does a better job of selling, educating and servicing than ET. My local tow shop wanted to install a "chain" system without sway control and when I asked him what he thought of the "bar" systems - he said, "...hmm, I've never seen those before". Go with the experts and your own mechanical expertise. ET has your back. 593977

Product is good - heavy. Instruction book leaves something to desire. Makes reference to Spacer Washers but has no picture of where they go. Not enough pics to understand all parts. Have not used product yet but seems very high quality. BTW delivery was awful! Came 5 days after it was stated to be delivered. Big brown co did awful job. Too bad etrailer can't use FX. They are soooo much better. I won't order anything else because of delivery mess. 512391

The washers act as a fine adjustment for the tilt of the weight distribution head. The more washers added to the stud, the further rearward the head tilts. If you use the provided link, you can see an install/set-up video that will walk you through the process.

Has worked real good for a first time puller. Self installed, with a little help from the pros, but easy hook up and go. Feels real nice on the road, but not real familiar with pulling a trailer without one. Much better to buy and install than the fortune the dealer wanted to charge me. 334506

This system works great for me. I have a Nissan Frontier and 21 foot TT. If you install this yourself make sure you watch every video and then follow the written instructions provided. You cant go wrong. This leveled my truck out and planted the front wheels firmly back on the ground. One word of warning. If you are parking your trailer on an incline and the truck and trailer aren't level move to a level spot, remove the bars and then back it in. Just makes getting the bars off easier. 570572

The hitch was more difficult to install than anticipated. We needed to purchase a larger than typical wrench to get the job done. What took most of the time was the adjustments rather than the physical attaching. Make sure you are careful with your measurements! Overall I am very pleased with the product. It definitely helps produce a smoother ride. 381310

I bought this product to pull our 20' Winnebago Micro Minnie with our Honda Pilot. It works great and we have never had a bit of sway with it. I especially like the fact that I can back the trailer without removing the anti-sway control which would be a big headache in most situations. 561425

Last weekend we took a 150 mile trip with our older nomad camper. The e2 weight Distribution w/2 point sway control worked like a charm. Even had a cross wind at around 25-30mph and there was little to no sway. I took a bad picture of the hitch set up, but my pull was with a 2000 chev. pickup 1500 , 4 wheeler in the back end of pickup ,and trailer loaded to around 7,000 lbs. I will and have told many people about this hitch set-up already. Excellent job etrailer. 86110

This is a review of etrailer.com not the towing system. I ordered several items online Sunday morning, then realized I needed to change one. Their customer service starts at noon on Sundays. About 11 am I received an email stating that my order had been shipped - on a Sunday! An hour later I was on the phone with one of their "customer service" reps. Although she admitted that my order had not yet actually left the premises, she refused to have someone from shipping pull the order back in and make a change. Finally left me on hold until the line disconnected. And this is on a 2-day shipping that cost about $30 extra! After exhausting all possible options. I called back and had basically the same conversation wth another rep. I told them I was going to call the bank and file a dispute, and might even keep the order for spite. A few days later i received an email with a return shipping label. When the order arrived, I printed the label. It was for a 2 lb package. This order was 2 boxes and weighed almost 100 lbs! I refusef the order and am still waiting to hear from their customer service. Bank reversed the charges. etrailer is the WORST company I ever dealt with 399541

Just finished installation of the Fastway WDH on my Rpod 180 (approx 3200 lbs loaded) with my TV, Lexus RX350! I had a mechanic/camping friend do the installation. Pleased with everything so far - did a test ride and definitely feel (I think) a difference, TV feels more solid, not as bouncy and had zero sway when the tractor trailer passed us on the highway. I had numerous people in the camping/RV industry tell me I don't need a WDH but after extensive research, I think this will make a huge difference on towability and safety. I'm going to finish my analysis with another trip to the scales. Customer support at etrailer was awesome, great service, answered questions and very helpful. 563509

The hitch was relatively easy to install once the ball got rolling, about 2 hours or so. Makes towing a breeze! Increased my connection clearance by 3"! Best part was the customer service provided by etrailer. Blew me away with attentive service due to a supply issue and was resolved with ease! I'd recommend this product to any towing person and that they purchase through etrailer. 263655

Unpacked and inspected. Not used as of this review, but really looking forward to it in the coming days. This hitch will handle anything I plan to upgrade to in the future. Owned a leveler hitch in the 70's - nothing like this. Package weight is significant - ~50 lbs. No tubular parts - all solid steel. Extremely adjustable. This is serious equipment, not plug and play. Read the manual!!! Well packaged, shipped fast. Only issue was from manufacturer related to quality. Pry handle has rubber grip that was sliced somehow prior to packaging. Not etrailer fault. Have done several transactions w/ etrailer.com. All transactions simple and smooth. Friendly and knowledgeable. 465414

I installed the Fastwaye 2600 lb. on a Chev. Colorado for a R-Pod trailer that weighs 2900 lbs unloaded. I only used one washer for minimum weight distribution. I hauled the trailer 1,500 miles back home without weight distribution and just took it on a 400 + mile trip with the new Fastway. There is a nice noticeable improvement in less trailer sway especially in cross winds and when traveling 65 mph on the freeway. The installation was straight forward and we're very please with the quality of the hitch. 390434

Item was suggest to me but, the etrailer salesperson never bothered to explain the I needed a thin wall 1-7/8" socket to install the hitch ball. This socket costs an extra $50 from etrailer and more from others. I had to modify my socket (which was expensive but not $50+) in order to install the ball. I feel I should have been informed of this issue before. 414198

Review from a similar Fastway e2 in Weight Distribution

The only reason I am giving this four stars instead of five is the adjustability of the hitch. For my vehicle, the hitch was either way too high or low, so there is a "watch out" here. I chose for it to be lower, without getting a specially drilled bracket (weekend warrior hauling doesn't justify that). In general, it was extremely easy to install and the instructions were straight forward however they were contradictory with height measurements. First it talks about wanting to put the tow vehicle height halfway between the unhitched height and the initial hitched height, but then it states to put the final heights back to the original measurements. Being an engineer and thinking about it, as well as looking at instructions from other manufacturers, you want the tow vehicle to be as close to the unhitched height as possible. You do NOT want to overcompensate, though. Once I figured that out, it was a piece of cake to set up. Again, easy to install, easy to hitch, easy to set and unset the torsion bars (using your tongue jack to take the weight off helps a bunch), great sway control, and great weight distribution (if it is set up well). Make certain you always keep the trunion pivot pins well greased to avoid wear, so buy a tube or two of grease and keep it with the hitch. 525696

The dealer installed the hitch when we picked up the new trailer. They made it look easy. Since we pulled away from the lot we have had no issues. Our first trip was 1200 miles over numerous mountain passes in OR, CA & NV. Easy to connect. I'd recommend this hitch to anyone. 103898

I purchased a 2018 Coachman Apex Nano 17X with a max of 6,000 lb. trailer weight. I pull the trailer with a 2018 Chevy Silverado 4x4 1/2T crewcab. I did a internet search for a weight distribution with sway control when I ran across etrailer.com. Viewing the information on the Fastway e2 weight distribution w/2 point sway control I found this system to easy to install and use instead of the chain systems. I purchase the 600 lb. system, it was easy to install and its easy to use. This system does a great job distributing weight between my truck and trailer and works nicely with trailer sway. I would recommend this system over a chain system. 525715

I never had any problems with this WD System. Everything went together rather smoothly and it seems to work as intended. It is very heavy, received the product in the mail in it's original box which was tore up pretty good. They should have packaged the hitch better, like inside of another box at least. It seems the paint will eventually come off pretty easily , so touching it up with some spray paint will be in order to maintain the hitch from rusting. 250777

Ive only used the hitch a couple of times within a year of owning it. The tool that has the hook on the end that is used to lift the stabilizing bars onto the hitch bends way to easy, it needs to be made out of stronger or thicker medal. One of the metal latches that hold the stabilizer bars in the socket broke off. The weld that held the pin that holds the latch broke off. But other then that it still works.

This hitch set up was perfect for us. We have a small 21 foot travel trailer and pull it with a standard 2013 1500 Silverado. The hitch did its job lifting the rear of the truck to level. Installed on a T&B camper trailer being towed by a Mazda CX5. Is a fairly straightforward install as long as you follow the well-written directions carefully. Being slow and methodical it took me all afternoon. On a test drive it seems to tow well. Note that the removable hitch is fairly heavy (weight-wise) and requires some creativity on where and how to store it when not in use (I keep it in the trailer or the house, not in the car). 572114

  • Fastway Weight Distribution for a V-Nose Trailer with Limited Space on Frame
  • With a trailer weighing 3,820 pounds the tongue weight will be in the neighborhood of 380 to 573 pounds which is 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. But to that you also need to add in the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. So for example if you had 100 pounds of gear behind the tow vehicle rear axle that would make the tongue weight 480 to 673 pounds. The minimum tongue weight for the Fastway system, # FA94-00-1033, to be effective is 400 pounds....
