Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, locate the power cable stud on the driver's side. Then connect the fuse holder wire with the ring terminal to the stud.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because your vehicle runs on a multiplex wiring system, the wiring needs to be converted to be compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

EASIEST WIRING FOR A TRAILER I HAVE EVER DONE.

by:
2012 Volvo XC90

Great product, easy instal, great seller.

by:

Very easy installation. I was able to install between getting home from work and before dinner.

Everything snaped right together Easiest harness I ever installed

This was the simplest install I've ever done. Everything worked perfectly. Great product and great support.

Volvo XC90

The wiring harness for my Volvo XC-90 couldn't have been much easier to install. The directions were clear and the illustrations helpful. This is sure better than "the old days" with locating and splicing wires!

by:

Good product, Hardest Part was getting the existing wiring out from behind the plastic moldings and feeding the wiring through the back of the trunk (to make it look nice). Otherwise, was pretty easy to install and only took time if you wanted it to look nice.

by:
2008 Volvo XC90

Easy install especially with the video from the etrailer.com website.

by:

Product matched description and was an easy install after watching the instructional video. One honorable mention not on the video is that the factory connections are secured to the body with a plastic fastener. Gently pull on the connection assembly to 'pop' the fastener away from the body.

by:
2007 Volvo XC90

'How To' video on etrailer.com was excellent. Wiring harness attached easily.

by:
2008 Volvo XC90

Good product, but Vovlo sure doesn't make it easy to get the connectors for the T-connector. That took the most time. It took about 30 min to install with about 15 min figuring out how to get the connector out from behind the plastic side panels.

by:
2008 Volvo XC90

Great product. Installed in my 2008 Volvo XC90 w/o any issues. Volvo likes to hide its wires; the connectors are well hidden deep in the pannels and secured w/ a gromet.

by:
Volvo XC90

Wow! Too easy!!!I was somewhat hesitant to persue installing the wiring harnesss on my Volvo XC90 on my own. Electrical work is not my strength. Although, after I saw this product I thought that it may not be as challanging afterall. In the end, this product was extremely easy to install. The only drawback was that the left side turn signal wiring is very close to being too short. It is a tight fit once the connections are made but it certainly works. Overall, great product and I would say that just about anyone could do it themselves and save a ton of money in the process!

by:

This product is the easiest wiring harness I have ever installed. I have installed one on my last 4 vehicles. The directions were clear, the video installation instructions were also stellar. It mated up to the factory wiring harness perfect. I am thrilled with the product.

by:

I received an email almost immediately after placing my order indicating that the hitch I ordered online was not in stock for expedited delivery as I requested. Upon calling the customer service number provided in the email, I spoke with Katherine who was most helpful. She provided me with an alternative hitch that was in stock and shipped it out the next day. The product arrived, and as stated in the description, was an exact fit. 25 minute install, and another 25 for the wiring. Thanks!

Volvo XC90 wiring installationOnce the correct plugs were identified, it was pretty straightforward. The video link was very helpful, but what the instructions may add is that there are THREE sets of grey electrical plugs on each side of the vehicle. EACH of the three plugs is physically different, and two of them are out in the open where you can easily see and reach them. The third, the one you NEED, is tucked in behind the panel and physically attached to the sheet metal of the car, so it is somewhat harder to find, and MUCH harder to access. (the video shows it already located and pulled off the panel, the written instructions are vague and of little help here.)

Yea, that plug was tough to get at. I had to use a screwdriver to work it loose from the sidewall.

Product was fairly easy to install, however the recommended installation location of the four pin connector jack was, at best, bush league. If installed to directions, the plug is to be stored inside the vehicle and be draped out of the tailgate when towing.

The manufacturer should design a way to disconnect the four wire lead, so it can be easily threaded through a Volvo grommet and reconnected to the harness. The four wire plug should then be attached to the receiver for both use and storage.

You can easily run this through the bottom...and get an extension of the 4 prong as you described. Often when 4 prongs hang out the vehicle they will eventually corrode. Youll want that extension to easily pull off and replace every 3-5 years. Done this twice on my XC70s and now researching XC90s

Thanks for the information Shawn. If you would like an extension we have the Spectro Wiring # 9653P, but do be aware we do recommend using dielectric grease like # 11755. We also recommend using a mounting bracket like the # 18144, and if you would like a no-drill option we offer the # 18140 or # 18136 that can be used with the # 18144 to secure the 4-flat mounting bracket to your hitch without drilling.

2008 Volvo XC90

Very easy installation on the XC90. Clipped off the flat 4 connector and picked up a power line directly from the battery for wiring to a 7 blade connector (pulling a 2 horse trailer with the XC90 V8 Sport). When wiring this up, take the battery out of the vehicle which makes dressing the wires much easier and also gives you access to the battery power distribution strip if you are running a hot line back to the connector. This harness saves a lot of time and is a more reliable connection. All lights and functions work great.

Great! I greatly appreciate how it has been resisting rust so far.

by:

Ordered on a Tuesday arrived on fri installed on sat. No lift one person took alittle over an hour to wrestle hitch into place and complete wiring

by:

Installation of this wiring harness went really smoothly. Another review had said they had difficulty in reaching/seeing the connection point inside of the Volvo XC90 but I found the gray connector is connected inside the compartment with a plastic barb - so once I pulled that free I was able to see what I was doing. It was a real time saver to be able to simply plug in the connetiions with no need for making splices or having to worry about which wire goes where. It IS a little inconvenient to have the flat plug running out through the tailgate and so I routed my trailer plug out of the bottom through an existing rubber boot/grommet near the battery (which required spliceing the lead but it works GREAT.

2010 Volvo XC90

I purchased a Drawtite hitch for my 2010 Volvo XC90 . The shipping info was provided quickly and the hitch and wiring harness kit arrived in a few days . Today I installed the hitch it took about 30 minutes once on the lift . Instructions were accurate and the hitch fit perfectly with zero issues . I haven't installed the wiring kit yet but I'm sure that will be no issue either . I would order again with no hesitation .

2009 Volvo XC90

Bought wire harness (item 118411) for a 2009 XC90 3.2 AWD. Installation was exactly as the description and video mentioned. Have had no problems with the quality or workmanship of the product. Item to note- I had the harness exit the rear of the vehicle from the bottom of the lower tailgate as the pinch area was rubber and loose enough to allow the wire to shift if necessary and not tight enough to crush the harness. Great product.

7/30/2016

Its been a year now and the trailer harness has worked to perfection. No drain on the cars electrical system and the mating connector has held up like new. Also, considering that the wire harness must exit the vehicle pinched between the upper and lower tailgate the harness has not been compromised at all due in part to the quality of the harness sheathing and the rubber seals on the tailgates. Item to note on the XC90- run the harness out the center of the tailgate rather than the rear left side or you run the risk of burning the harness with exhaust gases.

I am not a mechanic, but somewhat handy.. I found this to be super easy to install, and was able to reference the great videos that etrailer.com provides. If I get another vehicle, I will surely do my own wiring for adding a trailer. Thanks for making this very easy.

  • Can Trailer Hitch from 2010 Volvo XC60 Be Used on 2012 XC90?
We do have a hitch fit for the 2012 Volvo XC90, but unfortunately the 2010 Volvo XC60 and and a 2012 XC90 use different hitches. For the 2012 XC90, I'd recommend the Curt Class IIl hitch, part # 13559. If you'll be towing with the hitch, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness, part # 118411, a # C45010 ball mount and for a trailer ball, use # 40038 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball.

I will be happy to help. There are a couple of ways you can add a 7-Way trailer connector to your 2007 Volvo XC90. If you just want the lights to function on the trailer then you can use # 37185. Your 4-Way will plug into this adapter and then you just have to mount it and ground the white wire to a bare metal surface. The other wires can be taped up and stowed out of the way. If you want to have a fully functional 7-Way and a brake controller then instead of 37185 you will need # ETBC7....
