Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bar Installed

Benefits of an Anti-Sway System

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar does for side-to-side movement what a good pair of shocks does for up-and-down motion. You will notice a marked improvement in your vehicle's stability as the bar works to balance weight transfer and reduce body roll. The anti-sway bar acts as a link between your vehicle's frame and its rear axle, using the axle as a brace to more effectively balance the shifting weight of your vehicle as you maneuver it. Lubricated bushings allow just enough pivot and rotation to compensate for the pressure placed on one side of your vehicle when it goes into sudden maneuvers, hits crosswinds or encounters shifting weights.

Roadmaster Anti-Sway Polyurethane Bushings

Superior Construction

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar is made of 4140 chromoly, a chromium and molybdenum steel alloy. This type of steel is considerably harder and stronger than the standard 1020 steel that is typically used in anti-sway applications. In addition, the larger diameter of the bar increases its torsional roll stiffness. The result is a bar that is not only stronger than the competition, but also nearly 30 percent better at resisting sway. The polyurethane bushings and grommets used at the attachment points are durable yet flexible, ensuring that the system is neither so rigid nor so malleable that it becomes ineffective.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar Review

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at Roadmaster's Line of Rear Anti-Sway Bars for motorhomes. You want to refer to our fit guide to find the appropriate sway bar for your vehicle. The large size and heavy weight associated with motorhomes can cause drastic amounts of sway when driving down the road. To help create a safer ride, and reduce driver fatigue, we can minimize the sway by adding an additional rear sway bar. So when making basic maneuvers or sharp turns, you'll minimize the risk of a rollover. Also, when driving on windy days, on uneven pavement, you can get a sway affect going back and forth, and you'll have to compensate for that with the steering wheel to maintain and safe, straight path. This additional bar will help reduce that amount of sway, making it easier to maintain control of your vehicle and reduce vehicle fatigue, 'cause you're not having to compensate as much. The Polyurethane Bushings will help dampen road vibrations, and additionally stand up to corrosive road oils, salts, and UV rays. The bar is made up of 4140 chrome steel, where most factory bars are only made of a lower strength, 1020 steel. And to maximize your reduction of sway, Roadmaster recommends you also get a front anti-sway bar. Using our fit guide at etrailer.com you can pick out the appropriate rear and front end anti-sway bars for your motorhome. Now we'll take our anti-sway bars out on our test course.

When we go into our alternating bumps, you can instantly feel a difference in the amount of sway. It's a lot more stable side to side then it was before, making it much easier to maintain control of the steering wheel. And then we'll head onto our straight bumps. When we hit those, there's a definite difference in how much forward and back movement than we had before. It's definitely a more comfortable ride than what we had. And again, it's easier to maintain control of the steering wheel. And now we'll head onto our slalom where we can really test our the sway capabilities.

So if we have some evasive maneuvers, how our motorhome would react. And it's a massive difference. When turning, there's hardly any sway. I feel much more confidence taking sharp, evasive turns. Our customer David S purchased both front and rear Roadmaster anti-sway bars, and had this to say."I installed front and rear sway bars on my 2006 Itasca Suncruiser after making a winter trip to Florida from Ohio. We made a return trip this past winter, through the smoky mountains etcetera.

The improvement in handling was so noticeable, my wife noticed it from the passenger seat. I highly recommend both of these products. I have a workhorse w24 chassis. Crosswinds and semi-push was very minimal. One handed driving in most situations in the norm now, and driver fatigue was minimal.

Driving the coach is much more enjoyable."And that completes our look at Roadmaster's line of rear anti-sway bars for motorhomes.

While not the transcendent experience some of the other users had, this did make a noticeable difference. My star rating represents a product doing exactly what it was supposed / advertised to do. I was told the rear anti sway-bar would eliminate 65% of the movement. And that is an accurate description of the improvement. It was most noticeable on uneven roads and highway ramps. When the coach would have rolled 3-4 times, it's now 1 time. And, on long sustained curves the degree of roll is less. I paid to have it installed. After looking at it installed, it would have been easy to do on my own. I recommend the anti sway-bar for anyone looking to reduce body roll. 443092

I thank Cathy T great help she gave me. I installed the front and back anti sway bars on my 2016 George Town Motorhome. It has the ford f-53 chassis and a Dana 150 rear end. I use road master RM-1139-145 on the rear and RM-1139-140 on the front. Thanks to Cathy T she set me up with the right parts. I don't have any more body roll and the 18 wheelers bearly push me over now. If not at all. I also have the road master reflex steering stabilizer Rm-BK9-RSSA. 293743

Winnebago vista. This was easy to install. The additional sway control in the rear is the most noticeable of the three improvements I did. They weren't the lowest price I could find. But they did have all three items. The shipping was quick. The installation videos were very helpful. I used my leveling jacks to assist in installing the frame brackets. 406452

Very well constructed fit and finish are top of the line. I have not tried this yet because I need a 21mm crows foot wrench for my torque wrench(200 ft-lb) for the cross tube bolts. I am hoping that it will minimize fishtailing from our tow car, as well as controlling sway. 398602

This is in response to installing my anti-sway bar. While checking out the procedure for installing my Road Master anti-sway bar, I found out why I needed one, the original anti-sway bar "U" clamp was broken rendering the original sway bar useless. After repairing the original sway bar, myself and my neighbor which is a mechanic began installing the new anti-sway bar. First of all, you will definitely need an IMPACT WRENCH to remove the four bolts on the frame to install the mounting brackets. These bolts were put on with an impact wrench and put there to stay. After installing the mounting brackets everything else went smooth. Two people will be needed to install the large sway bar due to the weight of the bar. Now I have two sway bars, the original equipment and the Road Master. As far as how the equipment will work I will let you know as I will be leaving the 19th September for a month-long trip through AL, MS, LA, Texas, New Mexico, AZ, Okla, MO, AR, then back to FL. 563410

I put both sway brs on today with help from my friend. They went just as the paper work said, except for the front. You only replaced two of the bolts holding on the bushing brackets. We just reused two of them. Everything seemed to work great on our test drive. I just took a picture of the front sway bar because the rock guard was in the way of a decent pic. Everthing went great. 92558

I received and installed the rear anti-sway bar ahead of schedule. No problem with the install. I also installed the front replacement anti-sway bar. I have not driven the coach to see what difference it makes but replacing the small front anti-sway bar and adding the rear anti-sway bar has to improve the handling. 710848

I just spent several hours trying to install RM1139-145 only to find that I have again ordered the wrong item. Now I can not return the item this time because I do not have the original carton the item came in. The box went out with the trash before I got to start the install procedure. Oh well, just several hundred dollars wasted.... We will just eat light and cancel a few camping trips for a couple months... We will survive without the Anti-Sway Bars while the camper is parked in the driveway. 412173

Promptly shipped. Correct item. etrailer did good. Road Master however packaged the parts for the sway bar poorly. In particular, they put a little cup of the grease for the bushings in a bag along with large bolts/nuts/washers without a lid. The grease got everywhere. This is not an etrailer issue obviously, but this is the 2nd time in 2 weeks I saw Road Master mess up on their packaging (the 1st time, the entire box with the sway bar mounting hardware was missing). Road Master needs to have better outgoing Quality Control. 392582

I just received the sway bar today and was delivered very expeditiously. I do want to thank the etrailer staff for providing great service. I want to especially thank Conner L for working with me patiently to expertly advise me what I need to correct a sway issue I'm have with my RV coach. Conner is very well versed in RV technical knowledge and was a great help in suggesting options. My entire experience was very fluid through out the whole process. The assembly arrived quicker than anticipated and the shipping web site kept me informed as to where the shipment was each day. I'm looking forward to the benefits of my sway bar assemble as soon as it is installed. I am also looking forward to my next etrailer purchase. Thank you again. 545192

I purchased a Roadmaster antisway bar to replace the stock bar on my 2012 Pleasureway Excel Motorhome which is on a Ford E350 chassis. I did the install myself and instructions were very clear and was not too difficult to do. Handling is much improved, I have noticed less body roll when turning or going over bumps. I have included photos to show the difference between the stock bar diameter and the beefier Roadmaster bar. etrailer shipped promptly and customer service was great. 543343

The roadmaster antisway bar is still working great! As a side note, I also had installed professionally the Roadmaster Active Suspension. Between these two products, my motorhome now drives like it’s on rails. Anyone with the same Pleasure Way model should seriously consider both of these products.

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

Because I have an older rig- (97 Fleetwood Jamboree, 31 ft, class C) I wasn't able to find many reviews of the Roadmaster's improvements of this particular generation coach. Install was fairly straightforward, and on my initial short test drive I was very impressed. The rear of the whole rig was tight with way less body rolling, and handling on the highway has improved as well. After my short test drive, it was apparent that I will need to install the front anti- sway bar at some point as well. The rear is tight now, but the front still floats. I considered some other spring upgrades, but I'm happy I choose to start with the Roadmaster anti-sway bar. If the cost was lower, I would order and install the front now. 677752

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I purchased this kit and the Roadmaster rear anti-sway bar kit for installation on my 2015 Fleetwood Flair, 26-foot. Before purchasing, I called Roadmaster to make sure this kit could be installed on my small RV, as they make smaller kits for smaller RVs. They indicated it could be installed, and I'm glad I went with the heavier kit. The install took maybe an hour, with the only glitch being some difficulty getting the poly bushings and brackets over the new bar. I called Roadmaster, and the tech noted that the brackets DID look to small, but with some jiggling and finesse, the bolts should fit, and they did. My only irritation with this, and the rear anti-sway bar kit, is that the Roadmaster instructions do not provide ANY torque specifications for bolts to be replaced, either Ford F53, or kit specific, so be prepared to make some calls or go on an Internet search to find the right torque specs. 224319

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I ordered both the Front and Rear anti-sway bar upgrade kits. The install on my 2016 E450 was quite simple, and accomplished easily in my driveway. The kit for the front was a simple remove and replace the OEM bar. The rear kit required drilling two holes to accomodate new mounting points. Other than that, it was also simply a matter of removing a few bolts, and replacing the factory bar. Some minor nits associated with the kits. The washers included in the kit for the rear didn't fit the bolts, also included in the kit. And, the instructions for the front kit didn't include torque specs for the bolts. A quick trip to the local hardware store, and a call to Roadmaster tech support solved the respective problems. Oddly, the Roadmaster tech guy read me THEIR instruction over the phone, and they DID include the necessary specs. I've intalled these kits on two different motor homes now. They work GREAT, and I highly recommend them if you're towing and it feels like the vehicle has a bit more roll than you like. HOWEVER, I would note that the difficulty of installation can vary widely. If you're planning to install yourself, I highly recommend downloading the instructions in advance, and crawling under your vehicle to check on accessibility. For the E450 kit, you'll have to be able to get under there with a drill, and not drill through any cables/lines that may run along the frame rails. You'll also have to be able to get a (typically somewhat large) torque wrench up in there. My experience suggests this can be nearly impossible on some vehicles without access to a grease pit or lift. Good luck! 302774

After installing this front and rear sway bar my RV, it handled much better when in windy conditions and being passed by large trucks. The front sway bar install was very easy. The rear sway bar was much tougher and ultimately I had to have Camping World install that one. It took them about an hour and half to install just the rear sway bar. This was installed on a 2014 Chevy express 4500 frame. 336983

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

After purchasing a 2017 Winnebago Sunova 36 Z, I realized there were several handling issues that needed to be dealt with to make the drive more comfortable. I researched and then asked the experts at etrailer to narrow down part numbers appropriate to my F53 chassis. With their guidance, I purchased "sumo- springs" front and rear, a "Roadmaster" steering stabilizer, and finally the "Roadmaster" rear sway bar. The addition of these parts has made the coach far more comfortable to drive. Not only does e trailer provide great assistance ordering coach-specific parts, but they provide awesome installation videos that are a great help. Thanks etrailer!! 522622

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

Very nice quality product and installation was pretty straight forward with the right tools, just take your time and do things step by step. This sway bar was installed on a 2004 Fleetwood Jamboree on E450 Chasis. Rides great now with less sway and more control! 466581

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

2017 E-450 Class C RV. I just received the road master front anti-sway bar: RM-1139-176, rear anti-sway bar:RM-1139-147and steering stabilizer: RM-RBK24-RSSC . I unboxed everything and Wow! what a difference compared to the other items. My son and I decided to go ahead and install the steering stabilizer- RM-RBK24-RSSC and it took us right at an hour. we would stop and watch the e-trailer video to make sure we were doing a proper assembly. It is a very helpful tutorial. The only concern I have is how close the tie-rod end of the steering stabilizer is to the radiator hose. It looks like it could come in contact. What we are going to try is to get a old radiator hose and cut a section out of it and wrap around the area where the contact could occur. I will post an update when we get the sway bars installed 350488

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I received my front anti sway bar (RM-1139-140) around noon on the day it was promised. The package was undamaged and all parts were contained within. After lunch I installed the bar in less than 30 minutes, which included the removal of the factory bar. I installed it by myself from the ground. Simple install although I did deviate some from the instructions to make it easier for me as the bar is heavy. Instructions say to attach the bar to the axle with the bushings and saddle clamps first, then bolt the endlinks. Instead I bolted the endlinks first then simply swung/rotated the bar to the axle and attached with the saddle clamps. I did not have to lift the heavy bar to the axle as the weight was already supported by the endlinks. Easier if doing the install alone in my opinion. About a week prior I had installed a Roadmaster Reflex Steering Stabilizer ( RSSA-RBK9). These 2 items greatly improved the steering and sway problems which were extremely bad in my 2013 Winnebago Vista 26HE. So bad that I considered the drive extremely stressful and dangerous. With these 2 parts added the drive is now 80 to 90 per cent improved. Very happy. 263320

Review from a similar Roadmaster Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

Product arrived quickly as usual with etrailer. The etrailer video was more handy than the accompanying instructions from Roadmaster. etrailer provided videos for both the early E450 and the later chassis installations. While essentially the same, there was a small difference of enlarging an existing hole on the early frame in my case a 2006 and having to measure to locate the hole on the later. It would be nice if Roadmaster included a parts diagram to help with assembly instead of small not clear pictures. I thought the parts package was short two half inch washers, I supplied them from my stock. The fittings on the Roadmaster bar are much heavier than the stock components. Installation is on a 2007 Coach House, motorhome. Took it for a test drive, big difference in handling. 460014

The sway bars really improved the handling characteristics on my RV (32 foot class A). The back and forth sway during and after cornering has been greatly reduced. 570016

Do you have a question about this Anti-Sway Bar?

  • Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2015 Winnebago Vista 26 to Reduce Wind Sway
  • The RVs built on a Ford F53 chassis are pretty notorious for sway and body roll. We have found that the modification that makes the most significant improvement is a rear sway bar. For that you would want the part # RM-1139-145 which is a confirmed fit. The next biggest improvement you'll see is a front sway bar like the part # RM-1139-140 which is a confirmed fit too. After that the Track bars, like you mentioned, would be the next biggest improvement but we no longer have any for...

  • Best Suspension Enhancements for a 2018 Ford F-53 Chassis
  • For your 2018 Forest River FR3 32DS on a Ford F-53 chassis, I recommend first adding a rear sway bar like the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar for Motorhomes part # RM-1139-145. I would then recommend adding a steering stabilizer like the Roadmaster Reflex Steering Stabilizer with Mounting Brackets part # RM-RBK22-RSSA followed by a front sway bar like the Roadmaster Front Anti-Sway Bar for Motorhomes part # RM-1139-140. A rear sway bar will almost always be the first upgrade you want to...

  • Best Suspension Enhancement for 2018 Forest River Georgetown 31R5
  • According to my research your 2018 Forest River Georgetown 31R5 is built on a Ford F-53 chassis, which is what the parts you listed will fit. The best way to enhance the ride of your motorhome is to add a rear anti-sway bar as it will most effectively limit the side-to-side movement and create a more balanced driving experience. The correct rear anti-sway bar for you is Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar # RM-1139-145 though this will only fit if you are certain that your 2018 Forest River's...

  • Best Way to Reduce Sway in 2011 Forest River Georgetown 280DS on Ford F-53 Chassis
  • While you can certainly add the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs - Rear Axle # SSR-187-54-1 and SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs - 2 Piece - Front Axle # SSF-170-40-2 to your 2011 Forest River Georgetown 280DS built on a Ford F-53 chassis, by far the best way to enhance the ride of your motorhome is to add an aftermarket rear anti-sway bar, followed by a front anti-sway bar and steering stabilizer, in that order. The reason these are the best options is because they are...

  • How to Improve the Handling and Ride Quality of 2018 Forest River FR3 32DS Motorhome
  • I did some research and your 2018 Forest River FR3 32DS is built on a Ford F-53 chassis and has a 20,500 GVWR. The F-53 chassis is notorious for the ride quality you described. The biggest improvement you'll make is with a rear sway bar, which for that you'd want the # RM-1139-145. Next biggest improvement will be with a front sway bar # RM-1139-140. SumoSprings will help too and are a solid choice. For that you'd want the # SSF-170-40-2 for the front and part # SSR-187-54-1 for the...

  • Is Steering Stabilizer Helpful to 2018 Forest River FR3 32DS Motorhome Built on Ford F-53 Chassis
  • The Roadmaster Reflex Steering Stabilizer # RM-RBK22-RSSA will be helpful to your 2018 Forest River FR3 32DS built on a Ford F-53 chassis because it helps tighten the connection between the steering and the chassis, pulling the steering wheel towards the center to make it easier to drive straight ahead and in control. Having said that, the best way to enhance the ride of your Forest River FR3 32DS is to add an aftermarket rear anti-sway bar because they are a vast improvement over the...

  • The 2014 Fleetwood Bounder M-35K Class A motorhome is built on a Ford F-53 V10 chassis and has a GVWR of 22,000-lbs. For this motorhome the correct rear anti-sway bar is Roadmaster part # RM-1139-149 which installs without drilling and that works along with the factory anti-sway bar which remains in place. Please refer to the two linked video for more on this product's features and installation. Part # RM-1139-145 is for RVs with a lower GVWR.

  • Steering Stabilization for a 2017 Thor Windsport 31S
  • The best way to improve steering and ride stabilization on your 2017 Thor Windsport 31S is to add an anti-sway bar and some suspension enhancement. For the Ford F-53 chassis that your Windsport has we have the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar # RM-1139-145 which has a bar with a diameter of 1-1/2". If they are not parallel and are set at an angle, then you will want the # RM-1139-146. I confirmed this with my tech contact at Roadmaster.
