Can # 118411 Trailer Wiring Harness Be Installed on 2007 Volvo XC90 With Connector Outside Vehicle

Question:
I am looking at your trailer wiring harness for my 2007 Volvo XC90. Is the only option to have the connector come out the rear hatch or is there a way to permanently mount it on the exterior of the vehicle?

There's a very good reason that Tow Ready and Curt design the trailer wiring harnesses so that the 4-pole trailer connector is stored in the cargo area. Most folks who drive passenger vehicles don't tow constantly, so it's better to keep the trailer connector safely stowed in the vehicle where it can't be damaged or exposed to corrosion causing moisture. When the connector is needed, it's pulled out, and the rear hatch is closed on it. The rubber weatherstripping is truly thick enough so that the wire isn't damaged (just avoid the latch.)
I've towed my PWC's for years using a connector stored in the cargo area of my van, and it works perfectly.
If you are determined to mount the connector under the vehicle, you'd need to find a grommet or knockout in the floor of the vehicle, the spare tire well is a good place to look. If the hole is large enough, you can pass the connector through a slice in the grommet. If not, you'll need to cut the connector off, pass the wire through the hole and splice it back together. This will void the warranty and create a spot on the wire where moisture can infiltrate and cause a short circuit.
I've linked you to a video showing the # 118411 being installed on a 2007 Volvo XC90.
