SR1 Spare Tire Bike Rack

Tired of your vehicle's rear-mounted spare tire preventing you from using most trunk- and hitch-mounted bicycle carriers? No more worries. The SR1 bike rack mounts to your spare and lets you transport up to two bikes on the back of your vehicle.

SR1 Installation

This easy-to-use rack fits spare tires up to 12 inches wide and with any bolt pattern. Simply loosen the adjustment bolts to widen the mounting brace to fit your spare, place the brace over the spare, and tighten the bolts until the rack is snug. Then wrap the side strap under the bottom of the tire and the two front straps around the back of the tire to minimize side-to-side and front-to-back movement of the rack.

Pivoting Arms

SR1 Arms

Dual, pivoting arms support your bikes and better accommodate women's, children's and alternative frames. (An adapter bar [HRBA-PRO - sold separately] may still be required.) The spring-loaded arms can be folded in when you're not using the rack.

Adjustable Support Bar for Offset Spares

SR1 Bar

If you have an offset spare tire, the support bar on which the arms are mounted can be installed 4-1/2" to the left or 4-1/2" to the right side of the rack base. This centers your bikes on your vehicle, keeping them from hanging out to the side.

Soft Cradles

SR1 Cradles

Soft rubber cradles with straps firmly grip your bike's frame. The cradles rotate and slide along the arms, so you can easily adjust them based on the type and number of bikes you're transporting. And you can use the integrated safety strap to help keep your bikes tied down.

A cable lock (sold separately) are recommended to deter theft of the rack and your bikes.

Video Transcript for Hollywood Racks SR1 Spare Tire Mount Bike Rack Review

Today, well be reviewing the Hollywood Racks SR1 two-bike carrier, which has a spare tire mount, part number HRSR1. Some of the main features of this bike rack, one, its very simple to install for a spare mount. Its super secured, its not going anywhere. We really like how you can adjust placement of your bike, depending on where your mount is located on your rear hatch. The cradles here are very secure cradles. Theyre not going to scratch your bike.

Theyre adjustable. You can flip them. You dont have to use the bike it at the bars as often, depending on your bike, as some other bike racks will haul in a womans bike or a girls bike or a childs bike. IT has a weight capacity of 75 pounds. The distance between the arms from the outside the outside cradle is about 14 inches.

It will fit most door-mounted spare tires up to 12 inches wide. The SR1 comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Our SR1 comes pre-assembled and its set to fit standard tire mount. As you can see with the vehicle well be working on today, our tire mount is not centered on our vehicle. It actually favors the passenger side.

What were going to do is were going to show you how to adjust your SR1 to accommodate this type of mounting point on your vehicle when it comes to your spare tire. If you already installed the SR1 as is, then your bikes could be hanging off the passengers side of the vehicle. It would not be suitable for safe travel. Were going to show you right now how to adjust it to accommodate your spare tire mount. We would have to readjust it right here to accommodate where our spare tire is mounted.

Well take our SR1, place it on to our spare tire mount. We want to make sure that we center it up. We can center it by placing a U-bracket at the center of our mount and then we also want to make sure that our brackets on the sides here are touching the tires. When we have it in place, we can use a 9/15th socket or wrench to tighten these, just snug them down. Within the instructions, youll read that it says, Do not over tighten. Just keep in mind that we want to get these snugged and not too tight. To lift our SR1 and are both tight here to help keep it in place and make our mounts snug, were going to take our strap over here, our side strap, bring it around the under-side of our tire, making sure it stays centered as well as we can, and then were going to loop it into our side bracket right here. Well go ahead and snug it down a little bit and then well come back after we get all the straps in place and make sure that each one is tight. Now, well move to our back strap. What well need to do is we need to take our back strap, drop them through behind those tire mount and just set them in place. Now, well make our way around and make sure that each of our straps is tight. We just want to double-check our bolt, make sure theyre snug. Then were going to go ahead and just secure the extra straps that we have so we dont have all of it flapping around during travel. You can buy some straps to do this. For todays demonstration, well be using the rubber bands that came in the box. In preparation to load our bike, well need swing out our arms here. We push up on this spring-loaded bolt, and fit those on the slots there. Take our first bike and place it onto our carrier. As stated in the instructions with our first bike, we need to make sure that our handle bars are on the passenger side of the vehicle. Once we have it in place, were going to take our strap, bring them over our frame and lock them into place. Well grab our second bike and place it under our carrier. That carrier is built to accommodate different style of bikes so that a bike bar isnt needed as often. In this case, we are going to show you this one and with this given bike, part number, HRBA-PRO. Just bring our straps around, set them into place. Once we have our bikes loaded, we can take the strap here and its meant to leave through the frames of our bike to help hold them in place so they dont bounce around and hit each other. You can leave it however you like. Then, once you have it sat the way you like, you just fit it back to the buckle and tighten it down. Another thing that we found on the instructions, and its a really good point, is that with our bikes loaded, we want to make sure its not making close contact with our exhaust because their tires, depending on what tires you have, and most tires are, very heat sensitive. Heres our exhaust and the instructions that states that we need to make sure that our tires are at least 12 inches away from our exhaust system. In this case, they are. Its not an issue, but we did just want to point that out for your convenience. With everything all loaded up, were going to show you how it looks going down the road. That completes todays review of our spare tire mount, the Hollywood Rack SR1 two-bike carrier, part number, HRSR1.

Seems great! Strong & secure. etrailer sent the item in no time! Set up was fairly easy for me, although there were moments I could have used an extra set of helping hands. Nevertheless I did it myself. I'm excited to have the freedom to ride my bike on trails that I would normally not be able to access! 665347

Thank you for sending in the product review and photo! You might want to consider a frame adapter bar like # 64005. The adapter bar would span the distance from the seat post to the handlebar gooseneck, and will allow you to carry the bike so that it is level. It will also provide more ground clearance under the bike.

I love this rack! I bought it to transport my son's bike to College and it worked great. It only took about 10 minutes to mount on the back tire and was easy to secure the bike. I drove over 500 miles and hardly knew the bike was back there. I really liked the ability to still use the back door without having to remove the bike or rack! I also have to compliment the customer service from eTrailer...fantastic! 193573

Do the straps stay tight? It concerns me that the straps are only threaded through the buckles. I would feel more secure with ratchet-tightened straps. Did you notice any problem with straps loosening?

Great follow-up from etrailer. They called to verify the mailing address before shipping. I have had lots of problems with vendors sending items to the wrong address. Address verification was appreciated. etrailer also tracked the order to make sure it was delivered correctly. Very impressed with the product. Worked as advertised. Good company to work with. 503145

Would this work on a spare tire on a 2010 Keystone Passport Ultralight Trailer? The spare is attached to the 4 inch bumper of the trailer.

Spare tire carriers on trailers usually have a lesser load rating that spare tire carriers on vehicles. The Hollywood racks spare tire carrier should only be used on vehicle mounted spares. We do have a number of bike carriers that are approved for RV/Trailer use, including some around-the-spare racks. I've added a link to all of these racks.

When I purchased this rack it specifically said it would fit on a FJ Cruiser factory equipment tire. The rack does accommodate the width but not the height (P265/70R17) so the (U) section of the rack is not long enough to come in contact with the lower part of the tire. This makes the rack unexceptional the carry bikes on the tire do to the lack of support! The rack itself is well constructed and would be excellent on a smaller tire. I modified this rack so it would contact the tire in two places, this works great and just returned from a 4,000 mile trip and could not be happier. Easy to put on, rock solid ride, though my bike frames are small tube and I used a small piece of split garden hose to take the slop out of the rubber frame cradles. 429716

Still love the rack, after modifications. I hope Etrailer understands the problem installing the rack on the OEM spare tire on the Toyota Fj. Without the mod pictured in my review, the bikes cannot be held securely.

Just finished installing this rack. Took about an hour and would have taken much longer had it not been for my very mechanically-inclined boyfriend! One suggestion I would make to the manufacturer is to leave the straps off and just include strap placement instructions in the manual. 525618

I received my bike rack in very fast time only took a few days I was pleasantly surprised! The product its self is very nice well made and looks and works great! Only negative comment I have is instructions and pics when it came to the tie down straps weren't very easy to understand.I fumbled through it still not sure if I have it the way its supposed to be but seems fine. I also had to drill other holes to get rack centered on my 1995 tracker because factory spare isn't centered just offset a little which by using holes in rack from factory wouldn't work! Other then that very happy with it! 189210

Product arrived on time and in good order. It is well made and was easy to install. We have a standard bike as well as a recumbent bike. There is not room for both bikes on the rack because of the width of the seat on the recumbent. The large diameter of the main frame made it difficult to use the rubber clamps that were supplied because of limited access, but this was easily solved with a short shock cord. Over all we are very satisfied with our purchase experience. 162918

As an owner of a Toyota FJ Cruiser(w/a backup camera) I've been looking for a spare tire Bike rack for my Mt. Bike. This rack worked very well, it fit over the tire(265/70 r17)nicely & all the straps fit correctly & securly. There was no movement of the rack or the bike on the dirt roads I was travelling. I did need to add a cross bar(see above review) to keep the down U off the tire rim & because I have a full suspension bike it was positioned weird. Bottom line, very nice rack kept everything secure. Quite pleased & great price also!! 521860

I used to have a trailer hitch bike rack on a Toyota RAV4. It worked well but was difficult and messy to swing out of the way to open the door and put groceries in the back. The Toyota died and I got a similar Honda CRV. I knew the downside of the trailer hitch so I got a roof rack bike mount. It looked awesome but was VERY difficult to get bikes on after a long ride and in the wind on non-level ground. I had to carry a step stool with me. I still scraped up the side of my car. The final disaster was I forgot the bike was still on top and backed into my covered car port. DOH! So I looked into tire rack mounts. Both Honda and Toyota mount the spare tire off-center. Some of the brands cannot adjust for this and your bike sticks out a couple of feet on the passenger side. Some brands must be mounted to the spare tire itself and cannot have a tire cover. The SR1 rack below has held up great the last year. It was a fraction of the price of the big name bike carriers. I leave it on 24/7/365 and take it through the car wash with no issues. I live in the sunny SW and it has survived the sun and heat. It has not slipped at all when put over the vinyl tire cover. The only issue is you do need to supply a short bungee cord to keep the arms retracted when folded back and not in use. 450331

The rack is sturdy and solid, works as advertised. Workmanship is adequate, though the attachment to the wheel is a bit DIY in appearance. Installation is OK, need to get used to routing and securing the three attachment straps and check while in use to ensure they have not loosened. This is the only rack I found that permits use on an off-center spare wheel like my Honda CR-V 1990s era 660687

I bought this specifically for my 2001 Honda CR-V due to the fact that I don't have the roof rack or tow hitch options. The pictures, videos and directions prior to ordering convinced me to it this model. Very nice. This unit works pretty good, and is very sturdy. Great price. Shipment to me was very fast. First the pros- adjusted easily for offset spare tire. Easily installed in a few minutes. I was able to do a dry run fit test. Does the job so far. Cons- Arms do not lock in the folded-in position, which would have been good. Beware- larger wheeled bikes- I have a 29er mountain bike, it's wheels are only about 6" off the ground. there is a need to watch for parking curbs, speed bumps etc. Also due to large frame design, I had to due some adjustments to bike components and strapping to make positioning for second bike possible. Overall it does what is asked of it for a great price when $$ is a factor and options are limited. 368290

  • Spare Tire Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2014 Jeep Wrangler with Wide Tires
  • Hollywood offers a cost-effective 2-bike carrier, part # HRSR1 , that mounts around the outside of the spare tire, rather than by using the tire lugs, so you do not have to remove the spare tire to install the rack. This carrier also has dual folding arms, fits tires up to 12-inches wide, holds up to 75 lbs and is made of black powder-coated steel tubing. Another rack to consider is a Yakima SpareRide 2 Bike Carrier - Spare Tire Mount part # Y02599. The Yakima includes two extensions,...

  • Compatibility of Hollywood Racks Spare Tire Bike Carrier on 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Back-up Camera
  • The Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier - Spare Tire Mount # HRSR1 will fit your 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara spare tire. The backup camera will not be an issue with the rack fit as the straps are adjustable, however the view with bikes mounted will obviously be impacted. I reached out to my contact at Hollywood Racks to confirm it is compatible with both the backup camera and the tail light mounted behind and above the spare. You can see the tail light fit in the attached video at the 2:09...

  • Spare Tire Bike Rack for 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited with Backup Camera
  • The Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier # HRSR1 that you referenced will physically fit and work fine with the spare tire on your 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited. The issue is that the the carrier will simply block the rear backup camera view on your Jeep. If this is not a problem the bike rack can certainly be used and will work well. The sturdy cradles on the carrier can support 2 bikes of up to 35 pounds each. With this or any other hanging-style rack you may need an adapter bar like...

  • Spare Tire Bike Rack For 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser
  • Yes, The Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier part # HRSR1 fits spare tires up to 12" wide so your LT265 75/16 tires on the 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser will work fine. The bike rack itself will not damage the rear view camera but it will be partially blocked by the bikes. If you will be carrying bikes with a slanted cross tube like a women's or children's bike I recommend a bike frame adapter bar part # 64005. This adapter bar will give the bike a horizontal cross tube to hang the bike from.

  • Spare Tire Bike Rack that Fits Tire Width of 285 mm 11.2 inches
  • 285 width means that your tire is 11.2 inches wide. We have a spare tire mounted bike rack that will fit this size but it's not the Malone. Instead we have the Hollywood Rack SR1 part # HRSR1 which fits tires that are up to 12 inches in width.

  • Will the Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier # HRSR1 fit a 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser with Backup Camera
  • The Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier # HRSR1 should work just fine on your 2013 FJ Cruiser with a backup camera. It will fit around the wheel and would not interfere with the camera aside from its view being mostly blocked by your bikes. On an FJ forum there was a guy who removed the camera and mounted it to the bike rack frame so that the camera would be use-able with bikes loaded. Also, I do not recommend you have your bikes loaded on the rack while you open and close the rear...

  • Spare Tire Mounted Bike Rack for 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser with Backup Camera
  • If you are okay with not using the back up camera while carrying bikes I recommend going with the Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier - Spare Tire Mount, part # HRSR1, which you reference. You will have to remove the plastic cover from the spare tire for it to fit. Since you plan on carrying a womens bikes, I recommend picking up the Bike Frame Adapter Bar, # HRBA-PRO. Bikes with small or angled frames can be difficult to load on a bike rack and cause ground clearance issues. This adapter...

  • Can a Spare Tire Bike Rack be Used on a Travel Trailer
  • The Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier part # HRSR1 will work on tires up to 12" wide. If you can tell me what size spare tire you have on your travel trailer then I would be glad to let you know if it falls within this range although it should because most spare tires for a trailer will not be near this wide. However, this bike rack is not intended for use on spare tires mounted on trailers so I cannot recommend you use this. Instead, you will want to take a look at the attached link...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for 2013 Jeep Wrangler with 12.7 Inch Wide Spare Tire
  • I may have a solution for you, however we do not currently have a spare tire bike rack available that will fit the 12.7 inch wide tire on your Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. As you mentioned, the Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier # HRSR1 is designed to work on spare tires up to 12 inches wide. The hardware is not large enough to accommodate a tire that is any wider, even if it is by less than an inch. Another option to transport your bikes will be with a hitch-mounted bike carrier like the...

  • Spare Tire Bike Rack for 2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser With Backup Camera
  • There is a spare tire mounted bike rack that could work for your 2009 Toyota JF Cruiser so long as the spare tire is no more than 12" wide. If so, you would only need to remove the spare tire cover like you mentioned, and you could then use Hollywood Racks SR1 # HRSR1. This is a 2-bike carrier that uses cradles with rubber straps in order to secure your bikes to the rack. It has a weight capacity of up to 35 lbs per bike and mounts around your spare tire using a brace and straps. Please...

  • The Hollywood Racks Over-The-Top # HRF2-3 is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Audi Q7 with a spoiler. This rack was actually designed with vehicle spoilers in mind so for your application it would work perfectly. Since your 2011 Toyota RAV4 has a spare mounted on the rear door this rack would not fit. No trunk rack would fit but a spare tire bike rack like the Hollywood Racks part # HRSR1 would be a great option. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without...

  • Will the Hollywood Racks SR1 Fit a Toyota FJ Cruiser with Spare Tire Cover
  • The spare tire cover on your 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser will need to be removed in order to use the Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier part # HRSR1. The reason for this is because the rack could shift as you go over bumps if it was not attached directly to the tire. If you have the stock 265/70-17 tires on your FJ Cruiser then there won't be any fit issues with the bike rack. If you have an aftermarket tire size then so long as they do not exceed 12" wide then the bike rack will work just...

If your FJ Cruiser does have a back up camera that is mounted right in the center of the spare then I recommend using Hollywood Racks spare tire mount bike rack # HRSR1 instead. But you will have to remove the plastic cover from the spare tire for it to fit. I have linked video reviews of both racks...

This bike rack is easy to install, but you will have to remove your rear mounted spare tire to install the bike rack. You will not have to remove the spare tire each time you want to remove or reinstall the bike rack. The benefit of this type of installation is that the bike rack cannot be easily stolen from your vehicle. I have attached an installation video of this bike...

  • How Would an Alternative Frame Bike Mount to Hollywood Racks SR1 2-Bike Carrier on a Honda CR-V
  • For alternative frame bikes like your sons you would need to use an adapter bar, # HRBA-PRO. I have included a picture showing how it works. Basically one end clamps around the handlebar gooseneck, the other end around the seat post. This creates an artificial top tube to mount the bike on a hanging rack. This method creates a more level mount for the bike so you will not have one wheel dipping close to the ground.

  • Recommended Method to Transport 2 Bikes on 2010 Suzuki Grand Vitara
  • The best way to transport bikes on your 2010 Suzuki Grand Vitara is to install a trailer hitch like Curt Class III hitch # C13001 and to then use a hitch-mount bike carrier. The advantages of using a hitch-mount rack are higher overall bike/weight capacity than any spare-tire-mounted rack, the ability to use the hitch for other items such as a cargo carrier # C18153 or for towing, and that your bike rack's and bikes' combined weight is carried by the vehicle's frame - it's strongest part. It is most definitely a 2-bike rack. If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide...
