Standard Trailer Tire Tread

Contender Tire Tread

The standard tread on these tires has solid, continuous ribs, and it has very few sipes (or thin grooves) cut into the rubber. These tires are designed for use on trailers, so they don't require the level of traction that would be needed on a vehicle that is braking or steering.

Contender radials have double polyester cords and double steel belts. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Ask the Experts about this Taskmaster Trailer Tires and Wheels

  • Can Different Load Range Tires Be Used Together On a 5th Wheel Trailer
The tires on a trailer must all have the same load range rating as each load range requires a different psi rating. If you were to fill them all to the same psi then the weight capacity of said tire would be compromised. Therefore, you are going to need to choose a new tires that matches the load range of all other tires on the trailer. If you were to go against this then you would be at risk of a blowout due to increased heat buildup. If you can let me know what size tires you have...

  • What PSI Should Contender ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire C20515C Be Inflated to
With trailer tires like the part # C20515C that you referenced you always have to run them at their maximum PSI to get their full capacity and prevent over-heating and failure. This tire needs to be inflated to 50 psi so that you get the full 1,820 psi rating.

  • Substituting Special Trailer Tire Size ST205/75-15 for ST205/65-15 on Single Axle Trailer
Both trailer tire sizes you reference, ST205/65-15 and ST205/75-15 share the same width (8-inches) but have different overall diameters. So you will want to insure that your trailer wheel wells/fenders have enough clearance for the larger tire. At least 3-inches of available space above the tire surface is recommended to allow for normal suspension travel. The ST205/65-15 has a diameter of 25-1/2-inches; the ST205/75-15 has an overall diameter of just over 27-inches. So long as you have...

  • Trailer Tire Recommendation for a Trailer with P215/75R15 Tires Currently
The tire you have now is designed for passenger vehicle (that's what the P stands for at the beginning of the size), so that is why we don't have an exact match, but we can certainly help get you the correct tire you would need. The closest size in a trailer tire is the 205/75-15. The best priced tire we have in that size is the Contender part # C20515C which will work well for you. I attached a review video for you to check out as well.

  • Replacement for 4 Ply 7.75-15 Trailer Tires
The 7.75-15 tires you have now are a rather uncommon size that is not really used much today. For the sake of selection, it would be best to switch to a more modern size for which the closest available will be a 205/75-15. This new size will be about the same width as the 7.75-15 tires but will lower the trailer around 1/2". For a 205/75-15, I recommend the Contender /ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire part # C20515C which has an 81 mph speed rating and two year warranty.

The Contender ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire with Load Range C # C20515C is a great replacement tire for you. The existing tires on your trailer are designed for use on passenger vehicles, so I highly recommend changing them out for trailer tires. Trailer tires have stiffer sidewalls which do a better job dealing with the vertical loads experienced by a trailer. The only issue you may run into is the clearance since the new tire is 27.1 inches in diameter and your old tire is 25.5...

  • Replacement Special Trailer Tires for 1986 ALJO Alliance Skyline Tandem Axle Travel Trailer
Trailers often include tire sizing information on their primary VIN sticker or on another safety or warning sticker that could also have axle capacities listed. I checked online specs for various 1986 model year Aljo tandem-axle travel trailers but I could not find a confirmed tire size for any, most likely due to the age of the unit. Since you need to know both your tire size and Load Range (weight) rating to choose correct replacements, you can most easily pull this information from...

  • Are Trailer Tires Tubeless
The Taskmaster Contender ST205/75R15 tire you'd looked at, part # C20515C is indeed tubeless which is typical for a trailer tire. In fact, we don't offer any trailer tires that use inner tubes. Radial tires allow enough flex that the movement can actually wear a hole in the trailer tube.

  • How to Select Trailer Tires for 1964 Tag-a-Long Single Axle Travel Trailer
Trailer tires, like trailer wheels and trailer brakes, should be selected to match the capacity of the trailer's axle. Axles usually have a sticker or plate on them that indicates their weight capacity. The trailer's main identification plate or sticker will usually indicate its gross weight limit (GVWR) and sometimes its axle capacity. Trailer tires of the appropriate size should be selected based on the amount of weight they need to support. Any given size tire may be offered in several...

  • Can 15 Inch Diameter Wheel be Used on a 1964 Shasta Compact Trailer
I would love to help but we don't have any fender clearance measurements on a 1964 Shasta Compact Trailer. Therefore, you will need to measure this for yourself. For starters, in order to switch to a 15" diameter trailer wheel you will need to make sure your trailer does not use a 4 on 4" bolt pattern as there are no 15" diameter trailer wheels we carry with this bolt pattern. If you don't know your bolt pattern you can use the attached help article to find this. Assuming the above is...

  • Why is There Excessive Wear on the Outside of Passenger Side Trailer Tire?
When just one tire is wearing out, the suspension is often the problem and needs to be examined, the spindles in particular. Another possibility is that if your trailer has brakes, one assembly is locking up. Also remember to always keep your tires inflated to the maximum PSI listed on the tire's sidewall. If you are using bias tires, you may also want to consider switching to radials such as the Contender, # C20515C. Radial tires will offer more flex and ground contact, meaning better...

  • What Tire Load Rating Is Needed For Tandem Axle Trailer With 7000 lb Capacity?
For a tandem axle trailer rated for 7000 lbs, you can use either a Load Range C or D tire. Each axle will be rated for 3500 lbs so you need a tire that will carry 1/2 that capacity. That would make your minimum load range before limiting your system or 1750 lbs. The Contender ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 15" White Spoke Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # AC15R45WSQ are rated for 1820 lbs at 50 psi and have a speed rating of up to 81 mph. • Why Do 205/75-15 Tires Wear In the Middle Of the Tread
The main cause of a trailer tire wearing in the center of the tire is due the tire being overinflated. That said, if you were using a load range that exceeded the weight of the trailer by a good margin then that could cause this issue as well. That's just one of the reasons we recommend you don't just choose the highest load range possible. In order to replace the worn tires, I recommend the Contender ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire part # C20515C for load range c or part # C20851D for...

I can certainly set you up with a 205/75-15 tire and a galvanized 15 x 6 rim with a 6 lug on 5-1/2 inch bolt circle, however our suppliers don't sell this as a combination and we don't have the facilities here to mount the tire to the wheel so we'd have to sell them separately and you would need to have the tires mounted to the wheels locally. You'd also need the # AM20903 valve stems. For a wheel, I'd go with the # AM20534. For a load range C radial tire, ST205/75-15 I'd recommend the...

You'll need to use a 205/75-15 tire like the Taskmaster Contender 205/75-15, part # C20515C. Or, if you want to stay with a 14 inch tire, you can use the # AM20377 14 inch directional wheel in silver powder coat (not available in chrome) along with a 205/45-14 tire like # C20514C.
