The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.
A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker light or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Optronics LED amber trailer clearance, and side marker light, part # MCL55ACB. Here's what our old, incandescent light looks like, and here's what our new Optronics clear, LED amber light looks like. This Optronics round light, will function as a clearance or side marker light. It's a great replacement for your incandescent lights. It features three amber diodes, and because it's LED, it's going to be longer lasting, more efficient, and there are no bulbs to replace. It's a perfect match for your other clear lens lights.
It has a sonically sealed poly carbonate waterproof housing, so it's going to be strong, durable, and it's going to hold up for a long time. It has a unique design, where the diodes are spread further apart, that way the light can diffuse evenly throughout the rings. It measures two inches in diameter, it's one inch deep, and the LED's feature a lifetime warranty. Now that we've gone over features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. First thing we got to do, is go ahead and pop out our old, incandescent light. If you've got access to the back, you can simply just push it out through the grommet in the front, or you could just take a flat blade screwdriver, and just kind of pry it out.
Once we've popped it out, you can see, we've got our plug there. Just go ahead and disconnect it. See, our old light is all corroded, and the connections are even split, so that would cause it to stop working eventually. Now, our trailer here, is using a two wire pigtail plug, so it's going to work out great with our new Optronics light. If you don't have one, you can pick up one, with part # A46PB.
Now, the light doesn't come with a grommet, so if you need to replace your grommet, you can pick up an Optronics flush mount grommet, with part # A54GB. When installing side marker or clearance lights, on your trailer, it's important to know that your amber lights are going to be on the side, towards the front of your trailer, whereas your red lights, are going to be on the side towards the rear, or at the rear of your trailer. Since we'll be installing a clear light, with amber diodes, we're going to be putting it on the side, here. Now, let's bring in our new light. I'd like to point out that it does come pre-greased, it's going to fit any industry standard two prong plug. It doesn't matter rightly how we plug it in, either way will work.
We'll line it up with our plugs, and then push it firmly in place. With it hooked up, let's go ahead and test it out. Let's go ahead, and turn it back off, and push it into our grommet. Push it all the way down, until it's flush, and then, we got it. That's going to complete our look, the Optronics LED amber clearance side marker light, part # MCL55ACB.
