Video Transcript for Dutton-Lainson Pull Pin Easy Swivel Trailer Jack Review

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at and also showing you how to install the Dutton-Lainson pull pin easy swivel trailer jack with the six inch wheel. It's part number is DL22457.So the Dutton-Lainson marine jack's gonna be the perfect solution for this kind of set up. Our jet ski, smaller marine trailers, even your Jon boats out to the 18, 20 footers, this should work really well for it. It has a thousand pound lifting capacity. So that should exceed what we're getting out of most of those applications. The jack also has the tough coat finish.

Of course it's constructed of a heavy duty steel, but the tough coat, zinc finish helps to protect against any corrosion and things like that that we often get with the standard steel style marine jacks. The outer tube has a diameter of two inches, while the inner tube is an inch and three-quarter. You can see that inner tube also fully coated, that helps to prevent any of that corrosion getting up inside of the jack, causing us harsher operation when we try to use it.It has a nice large handle as well, it's shaped to be very comfortable in your hand and something I like about this jack is that the end of the rod is actually inside. Some older jacks when you would try to grab them and operate them the nut or the washer on the end would sometimes cut into your hand. That's gonna eliminate that by bringing our handles, as you can see, out past that keeper inside. It also offers a nice, large wheel. Now this is gonna help our with maneuverability in a couple ways.

It's wide, two inches wide, so that's gonna dissipate that energy over a larger area and it has a six inch diameter. So it's the smaller stones and things that the other jacks used to get hung up on, this should have an easier time of rolling over it. Another thing that'll help with maneuverability, you can see how instead of the wheel being directly below our jack it's all set rearwards slightly. So whichever direction we pull the tongue of the trailer the wheel is gonna turn that way, that way we're not gonna have to fight it or try to kick it to get it good to go the direction we want. The spring release handle also makes it very easy to store our jack whenever not in use. This is nice because don't have to permanently have a mass sticking up or something sticking down.

See our handle's gonna free float, we can bring that up. When it's all the way retracted if we bring that up just a little bit it'll put some pressure there and it's gonna hold it. When we're ready for use you can see it'll be right back ready.Just we need to pull this pin, rotate it downward, and then begin to turn your handle and that's gonna extend the leg of our jack. As you can see it does work pretty quickly. These typically want to turn so you always want to just kind of hold your foot there, keep them from rotating if it hasn't made contact with the ground.

Once it does it's gonna lift our trailer up very easily, take it off of our ball mount, that'll be in a stored position. Now these are also very handy on these smaller trailers like this, you can usually pick them up and just put them on your ball, pick them up to move them around, but when they're stored your boat, or in this case our jet ski tends to fill up with water. So as we extend this up into it's higher position that's gonna put more of a rearward angle on the boat or the ski or whatever you might have on your trailer for that matter and allow that water to run out of the back of that. Now when positioning your jack it can be mounted on the left or right side of the trailer and it's been designed to work with trailer tongues that are three inches by three inches all the way up to three inches by five inches. Just so you have an idea for the amount of room you're gonna need, from the top of the tongue to the top of the jack it's gonna be about eight and a half inches. Our handle also sticks out from the side of the jack, about six and a quarter inches. Now in it's lowest position we're gonna have a bracket height of about 15 inches, which is gonna give us about what they state, about 10 inches of total travel. This one had about 10 and a quarter but they give a little bit of a margin there. The jack is also gonna come with all the hardware that you're gonna need to get this mounted to your trailer, including your bolts, mounting plates, nuts, and lock washer. Let's take a second and see how that process goes. Now, the installation process is gonna be really straightforward, you're really only gonna need a nine-sixteenth inch socket and a wrench. We'll orientate the mounting bracket for our application. Now, this will be the three holes in the bottle, single hole in the top, for mounting it on the drivers side. If you want to mount it on the passengers side just pull the pin and we'll rotate that flange al the way around and we'll be ready to mount it over on this side. See, we want the single hole to be on top of the trailer frame. Bring our bolt through, see the single hole and then the four holes you want the single hole to go on there, then we'll add one of the provided lock washers and nuts. Let's do the same thing for our forward location. We're just gonna get these started, we don't need to over tighten them at this point. We want our side plates to sit flush, if you over tighten them they'll kind of be tipped out, that's not what you're looking for.We need to see which of the holes are closest to the bottom edge of our trailer, you'll see in our case it's the second one down. So we'll bring our bolt through the jack side, through our plate side, and we'll also be installing a lock washer and nut there. Now while we still have these just finger tight we can adjust our jack forward or back on the tongue to get it right where we want it, then with a wrench and socket we're gonna take the slack out of our bolts. Once we have those all snugged down we want to torque them down evenly. That's gonna complete our look at the Dutton-Lainson pull pin easy swivel trailer jack with the six inch wheel and a thousand pound capacity. Part number is DL22457.

Do you have a question about this Trailer Jack?

  • Trailer Jacks Manufactured in the USA
  • There are some Dutton-Lainson trailer jacks that are made in the USA as well as a few that are not. Any jacks that we carry that are made in the USA have that as part of the description to help set them apart. Currently we have the following options: Pull Pin, Easy Swivel Trailer Jack with 8" Wheel - Sidewind - 1,500 lbs. # DL22800 Pull Pin, Easy Swivel Trailer Jack with 6" Wheel - Sidewind - 1,000 lbs. # DL22560 A-Frame Trailer Jack - Sidewind - 1,000 lbs. by Dutton-Lainson # DL22530 Pull...

  • Replacement Dutton-Lainson Trailer Jack 22457 or 22560
  • I spoke to my contact at Dutton-Lainson and was able to confirm that the Pull Pin, Easy Swivel Trailer Jack with 6" Wheel part # DL22457 for 10" lift or part # DL22560 for 12" lift is a direct replacement for the jack you have on your trailer now. For future reference, the part number of the jack is a set of three digits on the black plastic handle. If you add "22" to these digits that will give you the full part number of the jack. The jack you have now should have either "457" if you...

  • Jack Options for 2 x 2 Trailer Frame on Kwik Kamper Pop Up Camper with Storage Box on Front
  • Thanks for sending in the pictures of your trailer. The Dutton-Lainson Pull Pin, Easy Swivel Trailer Jack, # DL22457, that you mentioned will fit a 2 inch by 2 inch frame but I think that I may have a better option for your trailer. Take a look at the Bulldog Rack-and-Gear Jack with Steel Wheel, # BD162300. This jack does not swivel so we won't have to worry about the limited amount of horizontal clearance and this jack fits frames up to 4 inch by 4 inch so this would work great for...

  • Replacement for Old Dutton-Lainson 800 Pound Tongue Jack
  • I spoke with my contact over at Dutton-Lainson and found out that they stopped making that jack in 1994 and the specific handle for it they ran out of at least 10 years ago. But the good news is that your jack was replaced by a different jack that is still available today. It is the 6400 model # DL22457. Replacing the jack is pretty much the only option at this point. I have included a link below to a video on this jack for you.

  • Side Mount Trailer Jack Recommendation for a 4,000 lb Boat Trailer
  • Actually the part # DL22457 that you referenced should work just fine for you. This jack has a lifting capacity of 1,000 lbs which would be more than enough for a setup that has a 4,000 lb boat. Most likely your tongue weight would be around 500 or 600 lbs so this jack would work just fine. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.

  • Replacement Jack with Large Diameter Wheel
  • When choosing a trailer jack, you will want to choose a jack whose capacity meets or exceeds the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer. All of the Dutton-Lainson trailer jacks use the same 6 inch wheel, so if the size of the wheel on the jack you currently have is unsatisfactory, you might want to look in a different direction, to a different manufacturer. Fulton makes a few jacks that feature a higher capacity and a larger-diameter wheel. The Bolt-Through Swivel...
