Do I Need to Move the Kick Sensor to Install a Hitch on a 2017 Ford Explorer?

Question:
We are interested in installing a hitch for a customer on a 2017 Explorer part 398867. This vehicle has a sensor under the bumper to open the lift gate with your foot. The hitch location looks to interfere with this. Do you have any tips for moving it?

No, I don't have any suggestions for moving it but the etrailer Hitch item # e98867 being installed won't completely obscure the sensors either. What typically happens is after the hitch is installed you'll want to kick to the left and right of the 2" receiver to find a spot where the sensor still works.
The etrailer Hitch item # e98867 has been confirmed to fit the 2017 Ford Explorer. I have linked an installation video so you can see how to get it set up. If you have any additional questions feel free to reach out in the comment box below.

Hey, how did things go with the etrailer hitch on the Explorer and the liftgate sensor? Were you able to find a good spot where the kick sensor still works? Your update could make it easier for the next person with the same setup.
