Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Hidden Hitch arrived in perfect condition, and eTrailer upgraded my shipping for free. Wow - impressive customer service.

I'm a car idiot, so it took me about 2-2.5 hours to install - hardest part was removing muffler hangers and loosening rusted-on bolts in car frame - liquid wrench helped.

by:

Reasonably priced and sturdy.Manufacturer didn't take the time to clean of the weld spray on the outside and didn't deburr the inside of receiver before painting. Had to file around opening to slide in ball mount. So much for the Hidden Hitch Rust Resistant coating. Also didn't realize the receiver was open through the back, so much for the Rubber Trailer Hitch Receiver Tube Cover that I bought, nothing keeps the dirt and gravel from coming in the back.

by:

Dissappointed w/ ballmount fitInstalled hitch yesterday and found installation was as documented (I recommend an extra pair of hands though). The hitch fit well and the quality seemed top notch until I inserted a ballmount. I am now disappointed with the hitch because ballmounts fit so loosely (I have tried two ballmounts). Even the Hidden Hitch logo rubber hitch cover fits loosely, so loosely that I expect it will fall out during routine driving. I don't look forward to towing my trailer knowing how badly the ballmount will be banging around inside the receiver. Hopefully I will be able to fabricate some shims to alleviate the problem.

by:

Honestly, there's nothing bad to say about it. It's been installed for a year and has towed my 2,500lb (loaded) pop up camper dozens of times with zero issues. It's seen plenty of salt this winter and there's no rust anywhere, nor has the paint chipped.
All in all I'm very pleased with the hitch and etrailer.com too.

by:

I am Maryann's husband, Gary, for whom she ordered the Hidden Hitch. I am very pleased with the product. It was delivered within a short time and carefully packaged. The hitch is of very high quality and strength. The installation video's that were provided on your website were very helpful during installation. The only trouble I experienced was trying to work the rather large hitch into the tight space between the spare tire well and the frame/exhaust system. Not much that can be done about that; it is a matter of trial and error until you find the best angle to allow the unit to slip into place. I am very happy with the whole experience of this transaction with etrailer.

by:

The hitch and wiring has been used for light hauling, but mainly for an amateur radio antenna mount. A hitch for the receiver has an antenna socket, and it holds a large antenna very well. It was installed by my auto dealer, and everything was top-notch. I appreciate the fit and ease of the wiring harness. I couldn't be more pleased.

by:

Installed on a 2008 Outback Wagon. The bolt holes did not quite line up. They were close enough that I believe it is a Quality Control issue, not a design flaw; something wound up angled in a little too much. As a result, I had to loosen the bumper brackets to get the receiver into position, then a pry bar to spread the receiver mounts about 1/4" to get the bolts back in. Photo shows the bumper bracket with the indicated bolt removed, front of car is at top of page.and the spare tire pan is on the right. The receiver needs to fit inside the angle of the bracket, but since it was too narrow, it did not (at least, without forcing!) I should have returned it, but really needed the hitch this weekend. Also, in addition to unhooking the 4 muffler hangers, I also unhooked the pipe hanger to allow the mufflers to drop low enough to maneuver the receiver into position.

Maybe there was something unique to my car, but I doubt it. To be fair, I did not avail myself to any guarantee process. I have no problem with eTrailer, and may even try Hidden Hitch again. But all else being equal, I will choose a competitor in the future.

2005 Subaru Legacy

Hitch sits too low on the 2005 Legacy gt wagon and I'm at stock height. Scrapes when going up a steep driveway

by:

Fits very well. Instructions could be a little more clear. Good mechanic should have no problem. I did it on the ground with no lift. Looks ok but very visible under the bumper. Most of that is the cars fault though. Would buy again for sure.

by:

Easy to install as advertised. Hardest part was removing the exhaust hangers. All in all, it tooko about 45 minutes to complete the job.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for Bike Rack on 2008 Subaru Outback
You are correct that Curt requires the stabilization strap # 18050 on many of their hitches when using a bike rack or other accessory. This does interfere with the spoiler on your 2008 Outback if you run it to the top of the hatch, so I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III # 75560 which not only is a stronger hitch that will also allow for more accessory options, but also does not require that strap. I've attached an installation video of this hitch on a 2008 Subaru Outback to assist....

This is a confirmed fit for all models with the exception of the Sport model, so it will work for the turbo MT model. • Can Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack Tilt Back When Installed on Hitch in 2009 Subaru Outback
Hi Diana, Since you want a 20 inch hitch, the only option for your 2009 Subaru Outback is an option from Draw-Tite: - Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75560 The # 75560 measures 13-1/2" from the ground to the top of the receiver, which is plenty high enough to tilt back the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack # SH22G. The # SH22G will be 3" below the top of the hitch receiver when tilted back so it won't be close to the ground.

For a similar hitch that does fit your 2008 Subaru Outback we have the Draw Tite part # 75560 which has the 2 inch opening. Then for trailer wiring the harness I would recommend is the Tekonsha part # 118461 which installs easily and has a very reliable converter box.

The first difference between the Hopkins Active Tail Light Converter with Install Kit # 46255 and the Tekonsha ZCI Circuit Protected Harness and Hardwire Kit # 119250KIT is that the Hopkins kit comes with Dielectric Grease and the Tekonsha comes with a Circuit Tester. The biggest difference between the two is that the # 119250KIT connects to your vehicle without cutting the original wires, this is a big deal. Furthermore, I do recommend the Tekonsha kit over the Hopkins kit because we...
