Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2018 Toyota Sienna - Draw-Tite

Speaker 1: Today on this 2018 Toyota Sienna, we'll be having a look at, and showing you how to install the Draw Tite Class III trailer hitch receiver. Part number 76112. Here's what our hitch looks like installed. First thing you'll notice about this hitch, that sets this apart from other hitches out there, is that it's completely hidden behind our fascia here. The only part you'll see hanging down is the actual receiver itself. Some of our customers have even pointed out, because this hitch sits up higher than most, they have found it easier to pull into steel driveways without worrying about having to scrap the bottom of the hitch. On the side of our receiver, you'll find two holes.

The larger diameter one, closest to the front of the vehicle, that's your industry standard 5/8 inch diameter hitch pin hole to secure your hitch mounted accessories. You can pick up a pin and clip on our website, as part number PC3. This smaller hole closest to the rear, that's for our J-pin stabilization devise. And what that does, is take away the annoying shake, play, and rattle out of what's inserted in your receiver. We have one those available for you on our website as well, too. Welded on the bottom, area our rolled steel safety chain loops.

Now what's great about these safety chain loops, is that they're large enough to accept even a very large hook like this one without a problem. You can still easily clip it on, and clip it off. This hitch features a 525 pound max tongue weight rating, which is the amount of forcing down. And a 3,500 pound max gross trailer weight rating, which is the amount it can pull. It does support the use of distribution.

However, those numbers don't change. Now for a few measurements to better assist you in choosing any hitch mounted accessory you may need, such as a ball mount, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier. You're looking at about 12-1/2 inches from the ground to the top of the two inch receiver opening. And about four inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rear most part of the back bumper. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed. To begin our install, underneath our vehicle, we'll find an underbody panel that we need to remove. In order to remove this, we'll have five, 10 millimeter screws that run across the back that we need to remove first.

Then we'll have seven plastic push pin fasteners like these to remove. The way these work, just get it under the white section, with a flat head screwdriver, and pop it down, and then pull out the bigger black section. On the driver side, where it meets our mudflap, we'll have a single Phillips screw to remove. Then we'll have four plastic push pin fasteners, like this. The way these work, is you can stick a flat head screwdriver in there, twist it, and pull down on the panel, and it will release.Once we have all of our fasteners removed, we can simply grab the panel, and pull it away from the vehicle. Now here's a tech tip for you, normally this hitch requires the fascia to be removed. We found you don't need to do that in order to install it. These tabs here, we can simply pull these down, and fold them out of the way for the time being, to get room to install the hitch. You can also use a pair of pliers to make it a little bit easier for you.Now we need to lower our exhaust to get room to get the hitch in place. This exhaust hanger here, we'll just spray it with a little lubricant so it'll slide off easier. We have lubricant available on our website if you need some. Now we'll use a pry bar to pry it off the hangar. Now on each one of our frame rails, we'll have several pieces of tape covering up our weld nuts and a rubber plug that's in the middle. We need to remove all of these items. You can just scrap them off with a screwdriver.Okay, now, this is the hardware we're going to use to secure our hitch in place while the bolt, lock washer, and a flat washer. It's the same for every one of our attachment points. We're looking at the driver side right now. Passenger side's the same way. We'll have two weld nuts close together on the back, and then one closer to the front. Since these weld nuts we're covered up with tape, we shouldn't have to worry about cleaning out the threads at all. But we'll just verify by running our bolt in it by hand first, to make sure it goes in easily. Now if your bolt doesn't go in easily, we do have wire brushes available on our website. That's part number 814092. Just spray a little lubricant inside, and run the wire brush in and out to help clean up the threads. Now, with an extra set of hands, we'll raise our hitch in position, over our exhaust. And we'll pull back on our fascia, and lift it up. And we'll secure it with our hardware.Once we have one bolt started on each side, the hitch'll support itself. With all of our hardware now started, we use a 19 millimeter socket to tighten it down. Now we'll use the torque wrench and torque all of our hardware to the amount specified in the instructions. Alright, now we can push our exhaust back up, and reinstall the hangar. Now we'll bend our tabs back up.Alright, on our underbody panel, we marked out an area we need to cut out, so we have clearance around our hitch. The reason we're doing this, is so we can safely reinstall our underbody panel. That way, we can maintain the most aerodynamic qualities underneath the vehicle, which may help improve fuel economy. You can use a sharp utility knife to cut this, or rotatory tool. That's what I'm going to use.Alright, now we can reinstall our trimmed, underbody panel. And that completes our look at, and showing you how to install the Draw Tite Class III trailer hitch receiver, part number 76112, on this 2018 Toyota Sienna.

This is the best hitch for our Sienna. The receiver is higher than usual which means you're less likely to scratch it on the road getting into drive ways and such. Installation wasn't difficult but took time, especially if you want to wire it up. 655191

Arrived less than 24 hours after I ordered it. Installation was seamless. I love how etrailer includes an installation video (seemingly) for all their products. When I got to the part where I had to cut the under cover, i just attached the front and left the back of it hanging, so I could gauge how much to cut. Then I basically just cut around the tongue with a good sharp pair of scissors. Doesn't have to be perfect, since it isn't visible. 672686

Relatively easy install thanks to your excellently produced YouTube video for this make and model of hitch and vehicle. I’m amazed you had a video for my exact project. I’m not very handy but got it done in 2 hours with the help of my 14 year old. On our backs in the garage. Thank you for excellent fast shipping and the videos. My hitch arrived one day before the guaranteed day. 567229

Couldn't be any happier with the whole process, research, ordering and the delivery. Although my parts were not yet installed, they are waiting for me at home so when I get back from my winter vacation, I can entertain myself installing them. All the videos are absolute a great help and informative. Great place to do business with, one would hope there are more businesses like this. Congratulations guys!! 374096

instructions were quite a bit more complicated then they needed to be. I did not need to remove the bumper, I did not need to remove the exhaust. The hardest part was holding the hitch in place while I got the first bolt threaded. The bolts don't thread unless they are lined up perfectly. I used a few short pieces of 2x4 to help prop the hitch up during install. I didn't jack the car up which I think actually made the install easier because I didn't have to lift the hitch as far up. I also used the hitch box as a surface to crawl around on. All in all it was pretty straight forward and easy. I'll be doing the wiring in a couple days which looks less intimidating after watching the video on etrailers site. 574004

Installation went well on 2012 Toyota Sienna and very similar to your nice installation video. As I had to install it myself, I put the back end of the van up on ramps and used 16" tall cement foundation blocks to hold the hitch near position so that it was easy to position each side after that. I narrowed the plastic cutout in the bottom shield to 3.25" wide vs. 4" (on the video) for a cleaner look. All was well until I viewed the finish product from the rear end and noticed the 2" x 2" hitch channel was welded on crooked at the factory, so the Draw-Tite folks definitely need to inspect their weld fixtures to lock in alignment better. The angled hitch will definitely have an amplified look if I ever mount a flat hitch rack to it. 401815

Pros: Align perfectly with frame hole, easy install, look like factory. Cons. Exhaust tail pipe hits against the hitch and a cause a loud rattle. I had to wrap the tail pipe to dampen the sound but The sound still makes its way into the cabin. 664504

Comments
The exhaust system at the rear of the car is attached to the vehicle using rubber isolators and easily bendable exhaust hangers. Because of this, the actual position of the exhaust system can vary from vehicle to vehicle. When the hitch is installed, its position is fixed and will not vary from vehicle to vehicle. The large tolerances in the exhaust system is what can allow the rattle to occur. In other words, its not the fault of the hitch or its design. Youll just need to create a bit more space between the hitch and the exhaust. This is a common occurrence that is easily remedied by slightly bending the exhaust hanger. Ill linked you to a help article that addresses how to easily fix the rattle.

Definitely prefer the Draw-Tite 76112 vs. the Curt C13105...at least so far for the following reasons: 1) 76112 is a lot cleaner look (just the receiver shows) and 2) doesn't hit when going down my driveway! Speaking from experience, I installed the Curt on my wife's 2011 Sienna when I purchased the van brand new in 2011. Bought a 2017 a couple of months ago (had to replace her 2011 due to an inattentive driver turning left in front of her; wife had the right of way). I needed a tow hitch for bikes and watercraft. I was dreading getting the Curt again and saw the Draw-Tite. Install difficulty (not bad at all) was probably about the same on both and followed the video. Didn't have to remove the bumper cover. I did the install solo using ramps, jackstands, and a floor jack. I also bought the Tenkosha and followed the video with routing outside the vehicle. I'm anal and ended up using a wire wrap loom to protect the wire from abrasion, heat, damage, etc. Let's see how it holds up. Last but not least...etrailer.com is the place to go for all your towing needs! 511219

Easy to install but 2 problems. On the 2018 Sienna, the vehicle for some reason has very low ground clearance to begin with and hitch scrapes on a lot of inclined driveways. 2nd problem is that the tailpipe is so close to the hitch that everytime I make a right turn, the tail pipe rattles against the hitch. Super annoying. Fixed by putting a foam pad in between. otherwise awesome hitch. 664978

Love the fact that this sturdy trailer hitch is completely hidden except the receiver. Fits like a glove except a bit too close to the exaust system, will knock together and rattle at times. But being the licence mechanic that I am, a dab of Ultra Grey silicone did the trick!! Great value for the money! 663109

Install was easy. Finish is great. Fits like a glove. BUT when I used it with a Roadmaster Quiet Hitch to help stabilize a 2" Hitch Adapter that had my bike rack attached to it - a chunk of the paint came off. Rusted and purely cosmetic but I was surprised how the paint just came off. 571023

Product was delivered with damaged packaging (the hitch was sticking out of the box). Fortunately, the product is intact. The steel is so thick that it probably takes a bulldozer to damage it. I am not taking any star off for this but may be etrailer can improve their packaging if others are having the same problem also. It took me about 30 minutes to install on a 2017 Sienna SE. I did not have any helper so I just balance one side on my knee when screwing in the other side. No problem at all. I definitely would recommend this to other Toyota Sienna owner. 395484

DrawTite 76112 is one which looks and works great! I purchased this because the only thing that is visible is the hitch and not the frame and it is a class III one, which means more tongue weight. I went on a 2.5 hour camping trip with 3 bikes with one of it having a baby carrier. It was pretty stable and did not have any issue at all. The bike rack was one of the swing type heaviest ones too. The total weight must have been around 130-150 pounds. No problems at all. I got this installed at a hitch shop simply because I did not have the time to spend on it and did not have a torque wrench but it looked easy though from the videos Shipping from etrailer was very fast. 423314

Perfect fit! This hitch is hidden with little ground clearance interference. I had a second person help with holding the hitch. We did not remove the exhaust for access to the bolts on the passenger side. 378720

I did it myself in 90 minutes on a 2016 Toyota Sienna. Here are some hints. 1) Get some plastic body panel removal tools, they will help you get the plastic pins off without breaking them. Pry off the large white part of the pin first. 2) I did not have to remove the rear bumper cover! Instead, I loosely put a bolt into one side of the hitch while letting the other side sit on the floor. Then I lifted the bumper gently over one bumper tab at a time. I used a milk crate to hold up the hitch while doing this. 3) There are two tabs sticking out of the fuel tank and in the way. Just bend them down during installation and bend back after. The video has this but the printed instructions do not. 4) Definitely spray some lube on the rubber isolator, it'll come of so easy with lube. 5) I marked the center of the plastic under cover before removing, just as instructions asked. After removing I cut a 6 inch straight line on the center line. After installing the hitch and reinstalling the cover, I then cut out the rest so that it would be a nice night fit around the hitch receiver. Tools I used: power screwdriver, body panel removal tool, socket set (deep or with extensions), very large screwdriver. ratchet with long handle, torque wrench or breaker bar or ratchet with very long handle, some lube for rubber isolator, razor. 545716

Not sure why etrailer rates the install of this hitch as 9 out of 10. Other hitches require removal of the "appearance panel" and require even more trimming of that panel versus what you need to trim for this hitch. So much so that outright permanent removal could be considered. Following etrailer's lead, slightly bend back the two tabs that hold that panel, as shown in install video, and lift this Draw-Tite into place, torque the bolts, bend back the tabs to their rightful place.... done!! I chose this hitch because the bracing is completely hidden and looks the best on the Toyota Sienna. Sorry I have no pictures, I needed to keep moving along with both hitch install and wiring as I didn't want to be without a vehicle for too long. etrailers's shipping speed was crazy fast, had entire order (hitch, wiring harness, accessories) in TWO days!! Can't beat the prices either ;-) 489081

I have not used it to pull a trailer, but then that is not why I got it. We have used it a few times to haul our bikes around, and it works well. I doubt there is a way to do it, but I wish rack could be just a little higher. The Sienna is just a low-slung car, though.

Installed on a 2016 AWD Sienna. The hitch looks good and nicely fits up out of the way unlike many other hitches. No loss of ground clearance and nothing sticking out of the back of the vehicle to bang my shins on. The only gripe I have is that the hitch itself came a little pigeon toed. When I was installing it, the hitch fairly tightly gripped what I think is the underneath of the trunk. This actually helped me get it up in there by myself since it gripped tight enough to hold itself up. The problem was that 1 of the 3 mounting holes on one side (driver side, hole closest to the front of the car) ended up slightly misaligned and I couldn't get the bolt in. I ended up threading the other 5 bolts to just a shy of "hand tight" and gave the receiver opening a couple gentle kicks to take up the slack provided by the bolts not being tight. Then I had to use a pry bar to push the hitch away from the trunk bottom so I could get the last bolt in. I had to use the bottom of the trunk for leverage and I thought I was going to push in a dent, but everything held and it ended up being fine. I tried a bunch of stuff to not have to do that and the whole thing was pretty nerve wracking at the time thinking I was going to cave in the trunk. Took off a star for that hassle and other than that fiasco it probably would have only taken an hour and 15 minutes to get the whole thing done. With the misalignment issue I ended up spending a little over 2 hours. Everything else was just like the etrailer installation video except my muffler was mounted slightly differently and I had 3 rubber isolators that needed to be detached. Something to watch out for: the installation video shows the installer bending down 2 of the underbody mounting tabs. I bent one of mine slightly too far and the bracket started to break away from the weld, so be careful (bent the 2nd one more delicately and it was fine). Overall I'm happy with the hitch and would buy it again since the finished product of a mostly hidden hitch is worth the install issues. 452067

I love how this hitch turned out. Installation was a breeze. I had it on all by myself in 30 min with just the basic hand tools. The installation instructions tell you to lower the tail pipe, but I didn't have to. The tail pipe actually helped hold the hitch up on one side while I started the bolts on the other. The Hitch itself is made of quality materials, is heavy duty and well built. I would definitely recommend this hitch to anyone. I particularly like how just the receiver is visible beneath the van and the cross bar is completely hidden. 562430

When I started looking for hitches, one of the big things I wanted was to not see it. This hitch is up tight and is not seen. I put it on in 20 minutes with help from my 9 year old son. No need to remove the muffler, long extension works fine. No local parts store even came close to price. I ordered on Saturday and it arrived Wednesday. 2013 Toyota Sienna 510449

I had been reluctant to try an install on my own but the etrailer videos were fantastic and with a little help from a friend, this was a relatively easy install on my 2016 Sienna. Start to finish was probably 1.5 hrs. Like others, I was a little bummed to have to deal with a paint chip right out of the box (see photo) but after a quick prime and paint with a rust inhibitor, it was good to go. A couple of tools really helped speed things up--plastic fastener removal tool and exhaust hanger removal pliers. Short money and worth it. The rubber isolator is a pain to deal with (on and off) but the exhaust hanger removal pliers (along with WD 40) are the way to go. The hitch looks great and will get a work out on an upcoming 220 mile trip. I can't say enough about the etrailer videos--everything worked pretty much exactly as detailed in those videos. Lastly, I had to cut the plastic appearance panel a little deeper than the 5" noted in the instructions. I probably went 6 or 6.5" deep and 3.5" wide. It was pretty obvious when I tried to reinstall the panel how much deeper I had to cut. 547867

Its been a year, the installed hitch still work great, no issue, and still new. The AirLift 1000 AL60732 was also installed right after hitch installation. Theyre right combination. I use the hitch at least once a week to carry bike rack and towing small trailer box. I had several Sienna owners came up to compliment and asked info where I got the hitch. I told them I got it from etrailer.com and installation is easy.

Well built hitch, though arrived with the paint scratched off in several spots - a quick repaint and no worries. Mounting went without a hitch (sorry) - the hitch's 6 mounting holes lined up precisely with the frame weldnuts. I didn't remove the bumper cover so I had to yank a little bit on the bottom edge of the cover to get the hitch up into it's cavity. Two metal tabs used by the underpan cover have to be temporarily bent down for the hitch to clear and then bent upwards to their original orientation. Mounting took a little over an hour with a friend to help support the weight of the hitch (it's heavy). The hitch tucks nicely into the space provided by Toyota though the tailpipe wound up pressed against the side of the passenger-side hitch support plate - this is apparently a common issue so I plan to adjust the tailpipe hanger to resolve it when I get a chance. 545729

  • Why Does Draw Tite Hitch # 76112 Have Longer Install Time Than Other Hitches
The reason the part # 76112 takes longer to install than the other hitches that fit your 2017 Toyota Sienna is that it installs higher than the other hitches and only has a visible hitch opening where the other hitches hang down further below. I attached two pictures. The one that shows the underside of the rear of the vehicle is the # 76112 and the other is the # 75237. So long story short, the # 76112 gives you a hidden look that is much more desired and also has the hitch a bit...

  • Difference of Class III Trailer Hitches for 2018 Toyota Sienna
There are a number of Class III trailer hitches designed to fit the 2018 Toyota Sienna. In my opinion you can break them up into two groups that distinguish the biggest difference: those with a visible cross tube and those with a concealed cross tube. I prefer the crosstube to be hidden behind the rear bumper, like with the Draw-Tite # 76112, Curt # C13343, and EcoHitch # 306-X7255. This is shown in the picture of the gold Sienna. To me this is a very clean look and appears more like...

  • Concealed Trailer Hitch Fit for 2020 Toyota Sienna
There are three trailer hitches with a concealed crosstube that fit your 2020 Toyota Sienna that have a concealed crosstube, the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76112, Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13343 and etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver # E98853. Of the three I highly recommend the Draw-Tite # 76112 because of the company's strong reputation for quality and because this is the only hitch of the three that can be used with a weight distribution system, which is important if...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for Best Ground Clearance on 2017 Toyota Sienna
Because of the way it mounts to the vehicle frame, the Draw-Tite Class III Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76112 is actually going to have the best ground clearance when compared to the other trailer hitches confirmed to fit your 2017 Toyota Sienna, including the 1-1/4 inch options. That is because this particular hitch installs higher than the alternatives to provide a hidden look with the cross tube, and this in turn will offer better ground clearance. I have attached a demonstration...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2019 Toyota Sienna for Towing Pop Up
You'll need just a few things to tow a trailer with your 2019 Toyota Sienna but let's first start with a hitch. For that I recommend the Draw Tite part # 76112 because it has a 2 inch opening which means it has plenty of towing capacity, has a concealed crosstube which means it's mostly concealed, and because it has a great price. I attached a picture of what the hitch looks like installed as well as a link to an install video for the hitch for you to check out as well. A ball is not included...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Toyota Sienna
Since all of the trailer hitches for your 2017 Toyota Sienna require some underbody trimming, and for a few more reasons that I'll get into, the best option is the Draw Tite trailer hitch part # 76112. This is a 2 inch hitch which is the most popular size and has the most capacity, it has a concealed crosstube so it will be less visible than most, and would not require a stabilizer strap like the Curt hitch would if you ever carried a bike rack. I attached an install video for more info...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2018 Toyota Sienna with All-Wheel Drive
Yes, Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 76112 will fit your all-wheel drive 2018 Toyota Sienna. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation for you. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If the ball mount kit does not have the...

  • Parts Needed To Tow a Pop-Up Camper with Brakes Using a 2015 Toyota Sienna
The list of parts you will need to tow a pop-up camper with your 2015 Toyota Sienna are as follows, trailer hitch, 4-way trailer wiring harness, 4 to 7-way trailer wiring harness, brake controller, and a ball mount/hitch ball. For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76112 because it has a hidden cross tube (see photo) and it can be used with weight distribution. This is the only trailer hitch available for your Sienna with these two features....

  • Can Trailer Be Towed With 2016 Toyota Sienna AWD
In my research I found the owner's manual does not recommend towing with your 2016 Sienna if it does not have a towing package. If you have the towing package the trailer hitch I recommend for you is the Draw-Tite # 76112. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2 inch receiver opening. Since you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise...

  • Determining If 2018 Toyota Sienna XLE has Factory Tow Package and Recommended Trailer Hitch
Based on my research it looks like the factory towing package for the 2018 Toyota Sienna consists of an engine oil cooler along with a heavy-duty radiator and fan. The factory towing package is standard for the XLE model like what you have. With the tow package the Sienna XLE has a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. In order to tow a trailer you will first need a trailer hitch. For this I recommend the etrailer.com Class III Hitch # e98837. This custom hitch is confirmed to fit your vehicle...

  • Towing Capacity of 2017 Toyota Sienna LE with Tow Package
There are a few ways you can determine all of the specific equipment on any given vehicle, including "tow package" components. One is by having a local dealership run the vehicle's VIN which will show all of the factory-installed components. I checked Toyota's online data for the 2017 Sienna and in the specifications section there is a listing of all 8 of the versions of this van, the L, LE, SE, SE Premium, XLE, XLE Premium and the Limited and Limited Premium. This information indicates...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2018 Toyota Sienna to Tow Boat Trailer
You are certainly correct that there are quite a few trailer hitches available that are confirmed to fit your 2018 Toyota Sienna. In addition to the manufacturer, these hitches primarily differ in their weight capacities and how they actually mount to the vehicle. For your application I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76112 for a couple of reasons. The biggest appeal of this particular hitch is that it features a hidden design where only the receiver will...

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2014 Toyota Sienna
For a trailer hitch confirmed to fit your 2014 Toyota Sienna with a concealed crosstube the hitch I would recommend is the Draw Tite part # 76112. This hitch costs a bit less and if you were to ever want to carry a bike rack this hitch would not require you to use a stabilizer strap like the Curt requires. I attached an install video for this hitch for you to check out as well. For trailer wiring I do recommend the Tekonsha kit # 118498 as this brand is the most reliable option we carry....

We recommend going to a local shop that has a good reputation for trailer hitch installations. If you are in the St. Louis area we do have an install team at etrailer.com that can help you out if you would like. If you don't already have a trailer hitch for your 2018 Toyota Sienna I recommend going with the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76112.
