Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Ford Ranger

Today on this 2008 Ford Ranger, we are going to install part number 87161 from Hidden Hitch. This will also apply to part number 75082 from Draw-Tite. OK, we will show you how the hitch mounts up to the frame of the vehicle. You are going to use the existing hole right here and you are going to use this existing spot right here, with the bolt in here. This bolt will be removed and replaced with new hardware. The J-nut behind it will be replaced also. We will start off by removing the hardware right here. And one little thing that you might want to do is go ahead and loosen this bolt up a little bit. That way, it makes it a little easier to move this J-nut here. We are done with the driver side. Let us go ahead and do the same thing again on at the passenger side. 0:44

Now, we loosened both sides up. Now you can see that we can move the bumper pretty easily. And that gives us more working room now to remove this J-nut. Sometimes you can just pull down on the back side of it, on the other side of the frame. Pull down the tab. Maybe it will just slide out. If not, pry it out with a screw driver. Go ahead and repeat that same process back over on the passenger side. OK, let us go ahead and install some hardware now. We are going to install a block and a bolt. And it is just going to right on through, just like that. At this point we can go ahead and tighten up the bumper bolts back here. OK, at this point we can go ahead and install the hitch on the vehicle with the two bolts we installed. Now we are going to have to take the hitch and push it a little bit passed the bolt and then back over the horizontal bolts that are in the bumper bracket. Then we can the bolts in. We will just go ahead and run our lock washer and a nut onto it. We are just going to leave it loose and repeat the same thing on both sides. 1:44

Alright, now we will work on the attachment going towards the front of the vehicle. Now there is going to be a space between the frame and the hitch. The kit comes with a block to fill that up. It is the same as before. We will our hardware in. We have our hardware installed but before we can tighten down the hitch, you want to make sure that this cutout on the hitch goes around this bolt right here. You may have to tap it with a rubber mallet to put it in position so everything sits flat on the frame. OK, with our bolts tightened down, you can go ahead and torque them down as specified in the instructions. We have our vehicle off of the lift. Now we will give you a couple of measurements that will help you in ing the ball mount, bicycle rack or cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground is going to be 15 inches. And from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer edge of the bumper we are looking at 5 inches. Alright, in a few easy steps our hitch is already installed. And there you have it for part number 87161 from Hidden Hitch.

2008 Ford Ranger

I have a 2008 ranger 4x4. This set up was very easy to use and the video was very helpful since my mechanic skills are limited. If you have a full size spare tire which I did, you will need to remove before mounting the bracket. The spare will go back on but it will be a tight fit but will hold firmly. Make sure to look at the spacers to ensure you put the right ones in the right place. That was my only hiccup. I highly recommend this product because it was easy to mount and at a cost that was cheaper than other sites I went to. 497130

Easy to install considering it’s a 15 year old truck from MN. It’s really solid, glad I chose your hitch rather than using my step bumper. 502138

Wasn’t looking forward to spending the money, but it is a fantastic investment, it is so much more solid than the step bumper I’ve been using for 15 years, end it is also at a better height for toy on my boat.

Hitch seems to be built very well and strong. I have a 2007 Ford Ranger Sport and had to lower the spare tire a bit to fit the hitch when mounting but was able to put the spare back in place once the hitch was in. My only minor complaint is that the receiver box on the hitch was slightly crooked when welded on but shouldn't effect use. Good shipping time and tracking information on package. 297176

Found the website through a Google search, easily found the trailer hitch I was looking for and purchased it. Shipping was super fast. Didn't take long at all to install on the truck even fit with the custom exhaust, fits nicely up under the bumper. 529103

A straight forward installation as most will attest to, but we did complicate it a fair bit by not reading into how others were installing it; oops. One snag we ran into with our factory bumper had to do with a 'nut' on the bumper gusset/framing that was spun around to a point where it prevented the etrailer hitch from seating-fully into the bumper brackets. Spinning the nut out of the way(not removing it) allowed the hitch to slip-in & install just like it should, with all the holes lining up to each other(hitch & bumper framing), and the vehicle framing. Thanks etrailer, a good product, good outreach & good community support. 529083

The hitch seemed to be stront, but the coating had some chips in it, so I bought a can of bedliner and sprayed it before installing to prevent future rust. One of the bolts stripped when I went to torque it to the 75LB spec, but it seems alright. The only thing the instructions don't mention is that IF you have a FULL size spare, you will need to lower the spare on the cable before installing the hitch, then raise it back into place when you're done. Overall an easy install and great for the price 23230

2006 Ford Ranger

I installed this on my 2006 Ford Ranger XLT (4x4, extended cab, V6 4.0L) earlier today, and I am extremely pleased with the results. It took me about 2 hours from start to finish. The hitch fit just right, and I feel very comfortable with the quality of the piece (even though I have not towed anything with it yet). I needed another set of hands when I bolted in the new hitch because it's pretty heavy, but other than that I could do everything on my own. I also had to drop the spare tire so that I had more room to work, but that is no problem at all. I did not have to do any drilling in my frame or the hitch. All in all I am very happy with my purchase and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to install a trailer hitch on their vehicle. 206128

This is the third time we have purchased a hitch from etrailer along with other products. Every time we have purchased from them we have been very happy. We really appreciate the helpful videos that show step by step how to install the products we have purchased. We also appreciate that they care enough to follow up and see how things are going. We bought this to replace a Hidden Hitch that had been damaged due to and accident. The original had been on the truck for many year and served us well. We were glad to find this hitch and that it is exactly like the original. We like that, other than the receiver, the entire assembly hides up behind the bumper making for a very clean install. It is on a 2001 Ford Ranger with the Edge package. The truck has a full size spare and the hitch does fit well even with the full size spare. When you install the hitch removing the spare makes for a much easier install. The spare fits right back in place when you are done. The hitch has been on the truck for about a year now. The finish has held up well and it does exactly what we need it to do. 769489

Ordering simple. Parts correct. Price right. Video perfect. I did have to do some jiggling and banging to get it over the bolts that werent changed. I got it installed in an hour and I am NO mechanical genius. My only complaint would be that the nuts that came off were 18mm and the nuts that went on were 17mm. Had to drag my old self up and out from under and find another socket. Screw U-All wanted $[XXX] and I got it done for $[100+ less] and an hour of my time. TOTALLY pleased with the order, delivery, quality, and education from video thank you! of this product. Now, I will call U-Small and tell them to cancel my appointment. THANK YOU! 767097

1999 Ford Ranger

Drawtite 75082 install on a 99 ranger pickup was easy to install, fit to the frame was dead on with no issues . This hitch by design I think is stronger than some of the others for the same application because the rear rectangular tube goes through the side plates then welded, as compared to a rear tube that is just butt welded to the side plates. the spare tire I have is a 30x9.5x15 does not fit all the way within the brackets designed to secure the tire but the tire can be lifted up by the tire jack with no problems . shipping was free & the price was the best when I purchased . 756601

Many hitch receivers including the Draw-Tite # 75082 will have higher weight capacities when they are used with a weight distribution (WD) hitch system, such as # EQ37100ET from Equal-I-zer. Since these...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2001 Ford Ranger
A hitch from a 2011 Jeep Liberty would not fit a 2001 Ford Ranger. For the Ranger you would need a hitch custom fit for that vehicle. For that I would recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Class III # 75082. For trailer wiring you would want the # 118344. For ball mounts I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag.

  • Upgrading Hitch Receiver Weight Capacity for 2005 Ford Ranger

I've included an article about how to measure for rise/drop...

  • Recommended Hitch Receiver and Adjustable Ball Mount for 2004 Ford Ranger
For your 2004 Ford Ranger, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75082. This will give you a sturdy hitch with an easy bolt-on installation. The 2 inch receiver will give you more options of accessories and a higher rated hitch for towing capacity and tongue weight.
