Expert Reply:
No, the trailer hitches will be different between the 2003 Ford Ranger and the 2004 Ford F-150. Both trucks have a different towing capacity, as well as a different mounting pattern up underneath the truck when installed.
For the 2003 Ford Ranger I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e29AR because it has a matte black finish and we keep scratches and scuffs that you receive from towing less visible. The trailer hitch has a bolt-on installation.
For the 2004 Ford F-150 I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e58KR. This trailer hitch has the same finish as mentioned above. This hitch is more heavy duty and has a maximum gross trailer weight rating up to 6,000 pounds. When the hitch for the Ranger only goes up to 4,000 pounds.
If you plan on towing a trailer you will need the trailer wiring harness as well. For your 2003 Ford Ranger you will need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118344. For the 2004 Ford F-150 you will need the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C59236. You will also need the Curt Towing Starter Kit # C45554. This kit will work with both the Ranger and the F-150.
