Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Toyota Prius - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2008 Toyota Prius, we'll be installing the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch part number 24808. Here's what the hitch looks like installed in our vehicle. Next I'll give you some measurements that help you pick out accessories like cargo carriers and bike racks. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the bumper is 2-1/2" and from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 11-1/2". Now I'll show you how to install it. To start our hitch installation, we need to remove the plastic panel on the driver side of the vehicle. There's four connection points for this panel.

We have the two push fasteners at the back. One small bolt right there, and then this one just pops out of place. We'll remove the tow hooks from the vehicle. To remove the tow hooks, we just need to remove the two factory bolts. Once the factory tow hooks are removed, we can set them to the side because they will not be reinstalled. Now we can get ready to bolt the hitch in place.

We'll use the new hardware supplied with the kit and then two mounting points will serve as the mounting points for our hitch. This is the hardware we will be using to install our hitch. We have a ten millimeter bolt and a conical tooth washer. It's important when installing the washer that the teeth face upwards towards the hitch. Now we're ready to put the hitch on the car. It usually helps to have an extra set of hands around to help you lift the hitch into place. Once the hitch is up, just line up the mounting points and thread in the hardware included with the hitch. With the hardware in place, we can tighten it down and torque them to the amount specified in the instructions.

Now to put our panel back in place, we'll have to trim it. We're going to put it up into place on driver side to find out where we need to make our marks. The bottom of the hitch hits the panel. We're going to make two cuts so we can fit this in place. With our cut made, we can now put the panel back into place. We can now put the push fasteners back into place.

That concludes today's installation of the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch part number 24808 on our 2008 Toyota Prius. .

Excellent hitch! Very well made and easy to install. Don't get lazy and not reinstall the plastic cover panel on the driver's side of your Prius! It is there for a good reason! If you pay close attention when you remove the panel it will make it much easier to reinstall. A couple of hints: 1. Be careful when removing the two plastic rivets that attach to the bumper cover so that they can be reused. 2. Trim the tow hook slot about 1" to 1.5" forward of the hook in addition to the area indicated in the instructions. It took me about an hour and a half total on the installation most of which was spent on the cover panel. Follow my suggestions above and you can do it in half that time 6003

After one year, this hitch is holding up as expected (it's actually my second purchase because I was rear ended and the hitch, rack and my bicycle were crushed!). That being said, I bought my first hitch from etrailer.com and bought the second one there as well. Great, competitive pricing. Would recommend to anyone in the market for this product. 443071

Great hitch so far. etrailer is way better for buying than that other online site. It's worth the look at etrailer before you buy anywhere else. The customer service is excellent and the instructions for this hitch was perfect for our Prius. I'm alway impressed by the amount of good instructions and tips etrailer gives. We usually buy CURT but this is a good hitch so far. Installation was a breeze compared to getting the plastic cover off the Prius. We bought 3 trailers hitches from etrailer and was never disappointed. 575819

I bought the draw tite hitch and Pro series Q slot platform 2 bike rack to be able to transport our 2 bikes with our Prius. The products were delivered in just a few days. The hitch was easily installed and the rack was very easy to assemble and use. I am very satisfied with my experience with etrailer.com. I highly recommend them. 313524

installed perfect on my 2009 prius, great product for those who buy this there is a stop tab in the hitch so not just any hitch will work it has to be the same rating or the lock pin falls short of matching my wife's yaris hitch works perfect thanks etrailer! 505802

Comments
The obstruction you speak of is a stop or a punch thats intentionally placed in the receiver tube that prevents higher-rated Class ll accessories from being used. Draw-Tite does this with their Class I hitches as a safety measure to prevent the hitch from being accidentally overloaded. The stop or punch is designed to prevent a Class II rated accessory from being slid into the receiver far enough for the hitch pin holes to line up.

I bought the hitch from etrailer for my wife's car for use with a bike rack. I was very happy with etrailer in confirming the right hitch for the car and the prompt delivery. Installation was a breeze and we have been happily using the hitch for the past year. Thank you etrailer! 471922

Shipping was quick. Install was not bad. The plastic pan came off easily and I enlarged the hole with a jig saw. I cut about 1-1/2" toward the driver and another 1" to the driver side. It needed another 1/2" toward the rear end, once I had it reinstalled, but I cut that with a utility knife. I didn't use a jack to lift it. I balanced it on two 4x4s to start the passenger-side bolts. Then I lifted the other side with a 4x4 block on end. That got it close enough that I could lift it the last bit and start the driver-side bolts. Took about a half hour, but I work slowly. 84885

Having used the trailer wiring and hitch a few times over the past year, I am quite satisfied with both. In the installation of the wiring, I was unprepared in that the process messed with my electronic door locks and I had to get them reprogrammed. Otherwise, no problems. Thanks again!

Another excellent product from etrailer. Super easy installation with paper instruction and video by etrailer. Took me 30 minutes to install. Like other have said, cutting the plastic under tray took the longest time. Highly recommended. 100057

This arrived just a few days after ordering, earlier than I expected. And, I had forgotten to add a wiring harness when I ordered, but a phone call got one in, so they both shipped free. Very pleasant experience dealing with trailer, again. The hitch is a cinch to install. The most difficult part is jacking and blocking the Prius so you can get under the rear. Then a cover needs to be removed, easy enough. Take out 4 bolts, put in 4 bolts, and the hitch is installed. The cover could remain off. If returned, it needs needs a hole enlarged where the hitch passes through. The best way to do this would be to fit it before installing the hitch, and put hitch through hole, so you don't need to extend the hole to the rim of the cover, which is not as well supported if the rim is cut. But who has such foresight? I cut it to the rim, and everything seems OK. The product could be improved by describing this, and providing a printed template to show just what needed trimming for a perfect fit. It felt as if they did not expect to put the cover back on. It probably exists either for sound deadening or aerodynamics, both of which are worth the trouble of replacing it (though the hitch is going to mess up under car aero some, anyway). 160893

So, let's start with the good. Etrailer packed the item well. It wasn't just thrown in a box like the last hitch I ordered. Now the bad. This hitch is very poor quality. The hitch pin is not straight or square, so anything I put in it is going to be off to one side. Also, the hitch pin plate and chain clip are also welded crooked. Lastly, they painted over the welding tailings and whatever else was on this rack when coated. All they had to do was simply wipe it off before painting. It looks like it has boils all over. In the end, I think whoever assembled this rack was either intoxicated, or just didn't care. Needless to say, I will never buy a drawtite product again due to low quality. I wish return shipping didn't cost so much, because I would love to return this piece of... junk! See my pics of the issues. I hope this helps others in their decision to not by this rack, and be careful buying a rack online. 110907

This is definitely Top Notch, five star service all the way. Not only did I call for information and got very concise and intelligent response on the other end , I got also got pleasant and swift problem solving. Then they followed up with an email link for convenience with the correct part number. You'd think they were the concierge at a five-star hotel. If they weren't so far away I'd love to get to know these people. The trailer hitch I ordered looks really well-made I don't think I'll have any problem putting it in. 678298

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

  • Which Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver Fits a 2015 Toyota Prius
The Draw-Tite # 24847 is a fit for your 2015 Toyota Prius. The # 24808 is actually for older models of the Prius from 2004 to 2009. Another hitch that fits is part # 24967. The insallation is more detailed and time consuming but in the end I prefer this style. It's a much cleaner look because the cross tube is hidden behind the Toyota's bumper and all you see is the receiver tube underneath. Look at the darker colored Prius in the pictures, as opposed to the blue Prius where you can...

I prefer the Draw-Tite because it does not require the use of a support strap when carrying items like bike racks which the Curt hitch will. The Swagman XTC-2 # S64670 is a great rack for you because it will fit the 1-1/4 inch Class I hitch on your Prius. If you're interested in a Locking Anti-Rattle, Threaded...

It is our most popular hitch for the 2009 and the main difference from the Curt model is that it does not require a stabilization strap for hitch mounted accessories. The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # 24808 is a confirmed fit for 2004 through 2009 Toyota Prius models. There is not a 2 inch option for any of these vehicles because they aren't rated for towing or carrying the capacity of a 2 inch receiver. • Curt 18110 compared to 18140
First lets talk about a hitch for your 2007 Toyota Prius, I would recommend the Draw Tite hitch part # 24808. The reason for this is that Curt recommends you use a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 when you use a non-supported load on the hitch like a cargo carrier. Draw Tite doesn't have that requirement so I think you would be happier with the # 24808. Now the differences between the Curt Cargo Carriers part # C18110 and the # C18145 are pretty substantial. The Draw Tite hitch part # 24808 would be the correct hitch for your 2005 Toyota Prius. Now since this is a Class I hitch and they can only carry a maximum of 2 bikes on a bike rack your options will be somewhat limited. The Thule Doubletrack part # TH9054 would be a great option. Check out the demo video I attached.
