Excellent delivery time and communication.
The
break away kit was as described. The installation instructions were a little confusing but I eventually figured it out. Works great.
Also got LED clearance lights and I was impressed as to how much brighter they were than the regular lights with a bulb.

last year we drove from maryland to louisville in our 1931 A towing our mullins style trailer. as we got to louisville a car pulled out directly in front of us. i hit the brakes , locked the brakes on the trailer and kinda aimed the car toward the 3rd lane. people in the 3rd lane gave me room and we avoided a bad situation. great product

by:

Easy to install and operate. Just follow the instructions. Get a wiring junction box to simplify wire hookups.

See what our Experts say about this Tekonsha Trailer Breakaway Kit

  • Why Would Trailer Interior Lights Not Work with Breakaway System Installed
Sounds like you have the 12 volt power circuit of your trailer either running to only your breakaway battery or only the trailer lights. Most likely the issue is the connection that you are making from the battery to the 12 volt system. Make sure that the connection is solid and allows both circuits to be active.

  • Trailer Break Away Kit Installation
The Brake Controller itself is connected to the battery in the tow vehicle. The breakaway system battery is good for a month or two of inactivity before needing charging. The Break Away kit you looked at, the Tekonsha part # 2028 includes a charger that will keep the battery maintained during towing. The charger is supplied power by the 12-volt power circuit from the 7-way trailer connector. I will provide instructions that include a wiring diagram. You can see the instructions by following...

  • Troubleshooting a Trailer Breakaway Kit that Drains the Battery When White is Connected
The white wire is the ground wire of the breakaway kits like part # 2028 that you referenced. When it is connected it is completing the circuit for the battery to the trailer wiring. The problem you are having would indicate that there is a circuit on your trailer wiring's 12 volt circuit that is drawing amperage from the battery. This shouldn't be happening unless your battery is run straight to the breakaway battery and not through the charger. I would recommend you check the wiring...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes Damaged From Breakaway Pin Being Pulled and Sparks from Battery
I'm really sorry to hear about the mishaps on your brand new trailer! When reading through your descriptions the first thing that comes to my mind is the possibility that there's an exposed wire somewhere along the trailer that's making contact with the frame. This is essentially powering the frame so that when you attach the ground cable it's creating those sparks (which is not normal). If this isn't the exact cause of everything, there's at least something going on with the factory...

  • Do Trailer Breakaway Kits Use Separate Batteries
The breakaway batteries on campers are dedicated batteries separate from any other trailer batteries like what comes with the Tekonsha kit part # 2028. For more info on breakaway kits check out the FAQ article I attached on them.

  • Pulling Breakaway Switch Pin Causes Battery Box to Burn and Melt and Running Lights Stay On
If things start to melt when you pull the breakaway pin from the switch then that indicates a bad short that we have to track down. It also sounds like somehow the trailer running light circuit is being tied into the brake and breakaway system wiring which it should not be; or that there was additional damage in the trailer side connector causing a short between the running light circuit and another circuit. A breakaway system has to be wired up a certain way. I have included a diagram...

  • Compatibility of Breakaway Kit 2028 With Electric Over Hydraulic Disc Brake Actuator
The Tekonsha Shur-Set III Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger # 2028 will absolutely work with two Dexter 12k Axles with electric over hydraulic disc brakes. The EOH brake actuator is the key to the braking, so the 12V battery will send that signal to the EOH and give the proper pressure to your disc brake calipers. This battery is rated for 5 hours. I've attached an article to assist as well as a schematic of the wiring to assist.

  • Why Can't Trailer Breakaway Kit Use Main Trailer Battery
You'll want to use a breakaway battery kit. Reason being the smaller battery of the breakaway kits like the # 2028 are small enough that they can be kept at a full charge from the trailer wiring 12 volt power circuit and nothing else will be drawing off of it. Since the other battery of your trailer would be too large to be kept charged and will have other accessories draining it occasionally it just wouldn't be a good idea.

  • Will Snow Tire Chains for 265/65-16 Tires Work on 265/75-16 Tires
I do have some tire chain options for your 265/75-16 tires but every tire chain is different, some will fit a wide variety of sizes and others will only fit a few. If you already have snow tire chains, you'll need to look on the packaging or check with the manufacturer to verify fit on your exact size. I can't make a blanket statement that all tire chains that fit 265/65-16 tires will also fit 265/75-16 tires as some will and some will not because it comes down to the exact model of tire...

Some vehicles can use tire chains only on certain specific tire sizes; others can use them only on one or the other axle. The online owner's manual for the 2011 Nissan Frontier indicates on page 8-39 that you can use our low-profile S-Class type chains on the REAR wheels only so long as you are using one of the stock tire sizes that are offered from the factory. Your 265/75R16 tires are one of the stock sizes. We have two options in S-Class chains to fit your rear tires. Both are cable...

  • Will Snow Tire Chains that fit 265/70R16 Tires Also Fit 265/70R17 Tires?
Not every snow tire chain that fits a 265/70R16 tire will fit a 265/70R17 tire because the fit will depend on the design and clearances, but many will be compatible. For instance the Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains - Ladder Pattern - Steel Rollers - 1 Pair # TC2028 will be compatible with both sizes. I've linked the page to both fit options so you can compare fits. If you have a specific chain that isn't on the list but is from one of our manufacturers, I'd be happy to do some research...

  • Does Tire Chain for 265/75-16 Tire Size also Fit 265/75R16
The two tire sizes are the same thing. The difference is the letter R in the size 275/75R16 indicates that the tire is a radial whereas when the size is listed as 265/75-16 the tire construction isn't listed but the size is the exact same. So if you got the tire cable set # TC2028 you'd be fine.

  • Will the Titan Tire Cables TC2028 Fit Tire Size 275/65-18
The Titan Chain Cable Snow Tire Chains # TC2028 that you referenced have been confirmed as a fit for the tire size 275/65-18 that you have on your 2003 Lincoln Navigator. So as long as the owners manual of your vehicle doesn't have any restrictions on using cables these would fit and work well. I attached a install video for you to check out as well. You will need to check the owners manual to determine if there are any tire chain restrictions.

  • Are Levers Needed to Install Titan Tire Cables # TC2028
To install the Titan Tire Cables part # TC2028 you don't need any additional levers. If you check out the install video I attached below you'll see the entire install process. Basically you just hook the cables up around the tire and tighten it by hand as much as you can.

  • Do Tekonsha Breakaway Kit with Charger, # 20020 and # 2028 Come with the Same Charger
Both the Tekonsha Breakaway Kit with Charger, # 20020, and the Tekonsha Breakaway Kit with Charger, Clamp On, # 2028, come with the same charger. The only difference is how each system mounts to the trailer. Break away batteries require a special charger because they are smaller than a regular 12 volt battery. Trying to charge it just through the 12 volt circuit from a trailer connector can overcharge the battery. The charger prevents that from happening after the battery has been charged...

  • Snow Chain Compatibility for 265/75R16 Tires and Other Tire Size Fits
Unfortunately those two size tires will require different snow chains. I've looked up some chains like # TC2028 that will fit 245/85-16 tires and 275/65R16 tires, but the 245/75-16 are not a confirmed fit for chains that also fit 265/75R16 tires. The diameter, width, and sidewall height are simply too different. If you click on chains that fit your tire size and scroll to the bottom of that product you will see the other tire size fits for those chains.

  • Tire Cable Recommendation for a 265/70-16 and a 265/65-17 Size Tire
The two different tire sizes you have call for different size tire cables. For the 265/70-16 you would want the Titan Cables part # TC2028 and then for the 265/65-17 you would need the # TC3010. The good news is that you would be able to leave each set in the vehicle it will fit so you would never be caught without cables if you accidentally left them in the other vehicle. Titan cables are excellent cables at a great price. I would recommend them for you. I attached an install video for...

We have three options for Class S tire chains/cables for the size 275/65-18 that you referenced. We have two sets of ladder style cables part numbers # PW2028C and # TC2028 and we also have a set of low profile chains part # TC2327 these will provide the best traction and would be what I would recommend if Ford says Class S chains can be used on your vehicle. These will provide much better traction, will last much longer, and will install pretty easily as well.

  • Using Tire Chains on a 2012 Ford F-150 While Towing a Travel Trailer Through the Colorado Mountains
Cables like # PW2028C provide little traction compared to actual chains. Given that you will be in the mountains and towing a big trailer with your 2012 Ford F-150, I recommend going with actual chains. You can put chains on all 4-Wheels of a 4-Wheel drive vehicle but really you only need them on the main drive wheels which on trucks is usually the rear tires. Having chains on all 4 tires would provide even more traction, especially when turning. You will not need chains on the trailer...

  • How to Determine if Snow Tire Chains Can be Used on a 2010 Saturn Outlook
The first thing you are going to want to do is consult the vehicle owners manual for the use of tire chains. There is a chain paradox in which some vehicle owners manuals state not to use chains but in some areas of the country they are required by law. In that situation what you want to do is contact a GM dealer (since Saturn no longer exists) for their recommendation.
