V-Bar Icebreakers
The V-shaped studs (also known as icebreakers, spikes, or cleats) that are built into these twist-link tire chains bite into ice, providing superior grip for a safer ride on ice-covered roads.
Installation
1. Drape the chain over the tire, making sure that the V-bars are facing out.
2. Drive forward about 1/4 of a tire revolution. (You can also lay the chain out and then drive onto it.)
3. Fasten the ends of the chain together.
4. Drive forward a bit and tighten the chain as needed by moving the hook to the next link.
You can use rubber or chain adjusters (sold separately) to increase the tension on the chains for a tighter fit.
How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle
To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Hey everyone, Charles here at etrailer, and today, we're taking a look at the Titan Snow Tire chains with V-bars on a 2020 Toyota RAV4. And our tire size on this RAV4 is 235/55 R19. This is your ladder-style snow tire chain and while it doesn't give you as good of lateral traction as your diamond pattern style, these are gonna be more effective at your starts and stops. It's gonna be made out of a low-carbon steel construction, so it's gonna be very durable. V-bars on top are gonna be great for cutting through that deep ice, as well as your deep snow. And they are rated to be on- or off-road as well.
To begin the installation, we laid out our chains, making sure we are free from any kinks in the links and being a V-bar style chain, we definitely want those facing away from our tires, so I have those facing up. That way, I can just grab the center and drape them over the tires, making sure I'm as even as possible front and back and left to right. And just making sure that all the V-bars are indeed facing outwards. And I'll meet you around back for the first connections. If you have a RAV4 like we do here, it is of the limited clearance.
I can't get my other arm through, so I have to connect this with one hand, which can be pretty tricky and you're gonna be putting these on outside in the snow, so definitely would be helpful if you got a few practice runs in your garage when you're nice and dry. And for our front connection, we are gonna go down through this link and then bring it back around and connect it to this chain. It's something that's optional, but definitely recommended are these rubber tensioners right here and it's just gonna provide extra tension. So again, we're gonna have the hooks facing outwards and I like to start from the top, then go to the bottom and then evenly distribute the rest as best as possible. Nice, made it a lot more secure.
And so all we're gonna do is just hop in the vehicle, roll over this a few times, come back out and make sure that it's still secure. And if so, then we're good to hit the road. And that does it for our look on the Titan snow tire chains with V-bars on a 2020 Toyota RAV4..

I’ve used them on my 2000 Nissan Frontier in deep snow and on dirt mountain roads with steep inclines that were covered with about an inch of ice below 5-6inches of snow. 2 pairs of chains would work better for those types of extreme conditions but 1 pair got me where I needed to be! I’ll be ordering an extra set for sure!
Tires chains: why did i wait so long? etrailer.com was easy to deal with as usual. My only complaint is that i had to go to another vendor to buy plastic ramps to ease installation. My neighbor has a pair and they are perfect.
I own a second home on a hill in the snow belt of Pennsylvania. After years of plowing, melting snow and ice, sliding off the driveway more times that i can count i stopped plowing the hill and put chains on the four wheel drive parked at the bottom of the driveway. The snow piles up and and truck goes up and down like it is on a dry road. I didn't use the low range once all winter.
After a couple of tries the chains are a breeze to mount. No good for dry roads but magic on snow and ice. Worth twice the price.
Fast and accurate processing. The chains and tensioners were as described
Great product, used them today to break through the snow to cut wood. Etrailer continues to set the standard for how Internet bussiness should be done.
The trailer hitch for our Subaru Crosstrek is perfect!
They worked awesome!
Review from a similar V-Bar Ladder in Tire Chains
I had high hopes for my purchase since there was great reviews. Unfortunately that was not my experience. First issue, only part of order showed up when delivered. Reached out to etrailer to investigate. A few days later they shipped out the other set of chains I ordered. That issue was resolved. Second issue, I knew I would need to trim back the extra links on my chains, I was shocked as to how much I needed to cut off. It included a section of the ladder chain. Which ultimately wasn’t really an issue, I just think it should be clear this is a cut to fit tire chain, not a trim. I double checked the website, the canvas bag, and my tires, this was an appropriate set for those tires. Ultimately I’m very satisfied with the product. Not satisfied with seller/delivery.

I bought a pair of twist link (TC3235) for my front tires and V-Bars (TC3835) for my rear tires, so writing a combined review. The V-Bars have more traction but my front end doesn't have as much clearance so I opted for the twist links in the front.  I've now used these offroad 4 times, and once briefly onroad during a major ice storm that left all of our roads with skating rink type ice. Â
First - both chains fit 37" x 12.5 R18 tires perfectly. This is despite the fitment not being listed on etrailer.com and the etrailer CS rep telling me they wouldn't fit. The Titan catalogue / website does list 37x12.5R18.Â
Second - two pair of chains *just* fit in a milwaukee packout "Compact Tool Box" (model No: 48-22-8422). There isn't a wasted inch of space. After using them, I dry them in my garage, then douse them in WD-40 before putting them back in the packout. These chains are made from an alloy that prioritizes strength over corrosion resistance, so surface rust appears pretty quickly on them. Be warned that lifting all four chains together is heavy.  Â
Third - They give amazing offroad traction. The only way you're getting stuck is by getting high-centered. You will not run out of traction if you have weight on your tires. However, it is easy to get high centered when using these in the snow if you aren't careful. Don't spin your tires, or your axles and frame rails will be holding the vehicle while your wheels hang in the air. Â
Fourth - I would only recommend using these onroad in very limited circumstances. During an ice storm I had to get a neighbor to the hospital. We live on an extremely steep hill and the roads had 1" of clear ice on them. With the chains it was like the ice wasn't there. But the whole truck vibrated a lot. And it probably prematurely wore the chains. If I drove faster than ~15-20 mph it really rattled the truck. (offroad in the snow I'll drive 40+ mph no problem with these. but driving on hard surfaces causes a lot of vibration).
Review from a similar V-Bar Ladder in Tire Chains
Received it 2 days back and it broke on its very first use within 10 mins of driving. Not sure if this is a design defect or poor quality of material. I tried following instructions very closely so doubt if anything was wrong in the way it was mounted. There was ample clearance in wheel well and it seems the chain just could not take stress.

A link was already rusted when received. Question the quality standards if it is already rusting and made it to the customer.

Some Deadly tire chains!! I highly recommend these bad boys to anyone who enjoys driving in the snow!
Review from a similar V-Bar Ladder in Tire Chains
I ordered the v bar link snow chains because they work. This is my second set on two different size tires. As an long haul trucker , I admit these chains grab and dig into ice and snow, and they install just as easy as all others. But it's the v bar grip that is the difference. Drive slow with common sense and you will know what I'm talking about.

I’m impressed. These tire chains are the real deal. I looked at various options online, Amazon, etc. I found etrailer. First, the web page is packed with info, tutorials, etc. once I ordered there was continuous communication. I downgraded from a 4x4 to a 4x2, and drive up to Buffalo, NY, from coastal Carolina. These chains are impressive and will provide traction and ease of mind going through the snow belt areas along Lake Erie and parts of the blue ridge mountains. I’ve hit heavy snow on this trip and wished I had a good tire chain. This resolved it. Installing is a breeze be sure to get the tire chain adjusters with them! Excellent service!

These worked Great. I got them for a job I had on top of a ski run where it was a pretty regular occurance to have a foot or more of snow dropped throughout the day and then just a bunch of mud the next.
These are easy to install, although I recomend a couple practice runs where its warm and dry, and easy to remove.
They took a beating and dug through the deep and the icy stuff to get me up some seriously steep slopes as well as had the bite to help me stop getting down the hill.
I would recomend these over the light weight version to anyone. They hold up better and are eaiser to use plus they work great.

Chains were easy to install. I went for a more rugged chain with the cleats, but now wish I got the ones without the cleats for the sake of the roads these may drive on.

Saved my @$$ last year from being stuck out on the lake ice fishing! Almost had to make an embarrassing call in to get some kind of vehicle with tracks on it to pull me through a monstrous slush hole. Dug down around the tires, wrapped the chains on and turned my truck into a beast!!! Highly recommend if your venturing off the beatin path!

I was very pleased with the tire chains. Had no problems whatsoever. Easy to handle and put on my tires. Best of all, they kept my rig family and others safe on the road in snowing conditions while driving in Utah

I called etrailer and talked to Joanne. I've never bought tire chains before so I had no clue what to look for. So Joanne talked to me step by step and helped me find the right set of chains for my truck. She even told me the date they would arrive. I got them a day early. I will definitely shop them for any of my needs- and hope I get to talk to Joanne again!:)
