Konig's innovative design makes the XG12 Pro snow chains quick and easy to attach and remove. Once the chain is looped around the tire and the three color-coded connections are made, the patented self-centering, automatic-tensioning system takes over, creating a perfect fit as you drive away.
Konig snow chains are handmade in Italy of hardened manganese-nickel alloy steel for durability. The dual-sided, 12-mm-diameter, D-shape links provide superior traction for excellent grip on snow and ice. And anti-scratch nylon bumpers protect your vehicle's wheel rims.
Included with each pair of chains are mounting instructions, a kneeling mat and pair of gloves, all packaged in a sturdy, reusable container.
To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Colin: Hey everyone, it's Colin here at etrailer, and today we're going to take a look at Konig's line of XG12 pro self-tensioning snow tire chains. These come in a variety of sizes to fit your tire, so just make sure you enter your year, make model of vehicle in our fit guide and it'll guide you to the size that's going to correctly fit your tire. Now, if you live in an area where you're going to be frequently experiencing inclement weather, it's always a good idea to keep a set of chains inside your vehicle and just in case you find yourself in an emergency situation. What's great about our Konig XG12 pros is that these are going to give you great traction through snow and ice. They're going to be very easy to install and they have their own self-tensioning system.A lot of times for those ladder pattern chains or cable style chains, you have to get a rubber adjuster separately and you have to get one for each set of chains and they have to put that on just to make sure they stay snug on your tire. Not the case with our Konig chains right here. They have a built in right here with their color coded system.
This is going to help keep your chains snug against your tire while they're installed. What's great about our self-tensioning system is that it's built into the tire chain, so you don't have to worry about storing them separately. It's always going to be attached to the chain when you install them.If you have the ladder pattern chains with the rubber adjuster, you do run that risk of misplacing your rubber adjuster. If you have to go out and get your chains and then put them on your tire and you don't have your rubber adjuster, then it's not going to be snug against your tire, which could cause a lot of clinking around.Konig is well known for making a high quality chain. These have a manganese nickel alloy steel construction, and basically what that means is that they're going to be very tough and durable.
They're going to give you the traction that you need. They're going to resist rust and corrosion and hold up for a long time. Now, Konig designed these chains with a diamond pattern that's just going to give you more coverage around your tire and thus give you much better traction. Now, another thing it's going to do for you is it's going to give you a smoother ride. With those ladder pattern style chains, basically it just feels like you're going over a lot of little speed bumps.
Now, I want to point out you're still going to feel the diamond pattern chains on your tire while you're driving, but it's going to be a much smoother ride.We are going to have these double sided D shaped links. These are going to really dig into that snow and ice and give you the bite that you need to be able to pull through and stay on track. We're also going to have two steel plates on each set right here all throughout the tire, their position on the center of our tread. That's also going to help provide great traction. For any of that thicker ice that you might come across where the D shaped links can't get through, this is going to be there to break that up and give you traction. Now, no matter what set of chains you get, you do want to make sure you put them on the correct side of your vehicle.
If you have a rear wheel drive vehicle which will be more most trucks and SUVs, you're going to want to put them on the back tires. If you have a front wheel drive vehicle, which you'll find most sedans and a lot of crossover SUV have, then you're going to want to put them on the front tires. Now, if you have all wheel drive or four wheel drive and you want to have a set of tires, a set of chains for both tires, then just use the same partner that you got for your size tire. With your set of chains, you are going to get a bag full of these anti-scratch nylon bumpers. Right now is not really relevant to even put them on our chain. What they're for is if your chain happens to make contact with your wheel down here. If you have a taller wheel and a skinnier tire and the chain is rubbing up against him, then you're going to want to install these along the chain right here to make sure it doesn't scratch them up. It's very easy to install. We got one side with the stud, one side right here, just press it down until it clicks. Once you do that along the entire perimeter of the chain and it's going to make sure it doesn't harm or scratch the finish of your wheels. The chains are also going to be compatible with your ABS and traction control systems, so you won't have to worry about the chains messing those up while you're driving. The chains aren't going to have a maximum speed rating of 30 miles per hour, so just make sure you keep it slow out there. Now, what's nice is that we do have this durable case that's going to make for a very easy storage. It's kind of an upgrade from some other chains out there that just come in a cheap bag or sack that can tear up very easy, or even if the chains themselves can tear up while they're in storage. This is going to be very durable, keep your chains safe and it's also compact so it'll fit under a seat or in your trunk, wherevers convenient for you. Now, I'll go ahead and open up the case for you so you can see the inside. See, we do have our other chain right here. We're also going to have a bag with a set of instructions. There will also be a set of gloves and a kneeling mat just so you don't have to directly kneel into the snow. When you first get your center chains, I would recommend going ahead and install them on your tire, whether it's in your driveway or in your garage just before you go out into any increment weather. If you find yourself in an emergency situation, you're going to know exactly what to do. We'll go ahead and walk you through the install right now. It's going to be the same for every size chain. Now, the first thing you want to do is lay out your chains flat and just make sure there's no kinks or twists in the chain and also make sure that there's no broken links. You also want to make sure you lay them down the correct way. Right here you can see we have this hook right here with the two little prongs. You want to make sure that's facing down on the ground right now so that when we install the chains, the flat part right here will be rubbing against the tire. Now, right here between our gray cable and our red channel, this is kind of going to be the halfway point of our chain. When we're installing them, this side is going to go on one side of the tire and this side is going to go on the other side. What we're going to do is go ahead and slide these behind our tire until we get to the halfway point, and then line up the chains with the bottom of our tire. Now, what's great is that from here we're not going to have to make any connections on the backside of our tire, so we don't have to lay in the snow at all. From here, all we have to do is grab ahold of both sides of the cable. Then, we're going to bring it up behind our tire, and then we'll make our connection right there. This cable, it's going to stay behind the tire. From here, we'll grab ahold of our chains, drape it over the top insides of our tire. From here, we're going to use those color coded connection points they have, take that red link and put it on the hook just like that. Just make sure everything is even throughout the installation process. Now, we're going to come down here and get our self-tensioning system in place. What we'll do is take our red channel and our gray cable and run it through just like that, and we're going to pull up on it as tight as we can get it.Now, we're going to come up here to this plastic case where it says Konig, grab ahold of the red hook right here, pull down, and connect it to our cable. Now from here, you're all done with this tire. Just go ahead and repeat this process on the other side. If you notice that entire time I was wearing these gloves just to show you guys it's just as easy to install them if you have gloves on.Well, I appreciate you all for watching and I hope this information helped you out, but that's going to do it for our look at Konig's line of XG12 snow tire chains.

These durable tire chains are made of a sturdy steel alloy that resists corrosion. D-Shape links provide excellent traction. Chains automatically tighten and align as you drive for quick, simple installation. Requires 12 mm of clearance.Having never put chains on any vehicle ever, opening the plastic carrying case and seeing inside was a little intimidating. I thought for sure I would be all tangled up in these things and it was very cold! However, the instructions where just a couple of very basic/simple drawings with no text. So, I pushed forward and installation was indeed simple. Connection point were easy identified by the red paint. Which is great because I kneeling on my very cold snow packed, gravel driveway and people were waiting for me to come plow them out. Once installed, they performed extremely well. I used them to help me clear a neighbor's small, but uphill driveway with my Sport Plow. They were also very impressed.
delevered as promised; easy to put on .

I was looking to have snow tire chains for my upcoming trip to northern Wisconsin. I found these to be very easy to install as the instructions were very clear. I like that they come with a case to make them easy to store in my Ford Escape.

Two minutes. Yes, that is how long it took to put these chains on the tire. I didn't believe the other reviewers' reviews, but found out for myself that it's true. Everything is done from the outside of the tire. Brilliant design! Obviously, it's too early to tell how they will fare in the snow & ice this winter, but things are looking really good! I bought two sets: one for our Lexus RX350 and one for our Chevrolet 2500 Express van. Both sets fit perfectly. They even supply gloves & a mat to kneel on when putting them on so as not to get wet. Also, the chains arrived in two days...ahead of schedule. (The pic shows the Lexus installation, but the Express van installation looked the same.)

Quick shipping and great comms from etrailer. Practicing installing at home payed off in the wild. I was literally in and out of “pit lane” in 5 minutes! The chains were pretty quiet and performed well in 25 degree, snowy, icy conditions. Great engineering and solidly made.

I have not used them yet. I have great Hakka snow tires and Go-Treads traction boards. No need for chains yet. Maybe next year, but hopefully beyond that.

They go on, SO EASY!! BUT. :( I've used the about 10-15 times so far and quite a few of the cross-link bars have snapped and separated (the links that hold the opposite sides together). I reached out to Konig for the "5 year warranty" but haven't heard anything back (1+ week) since submiting my claim. Super dissapointed. $XXX chains should last more than a few uses. Warranties should be honored.

Thank you, the chains were delivered and we both used the website to learn how to install them on the car. Yes, we have done 2 dry runs on the tires in the garage. They may have cost a little more but having the self-tension chains is wonderful and soooooo much easier to install than the conventional ones. We are an older couple and getting up and down especially in the snow, can be challenging so the less fussing that has to be done, the better. We also added heavy gloves to the container and always carry a big sheet of plastic with us. We feel prepared to head through the Sierra's into Salt Lake in the coming months.

Just received the chains a couple of days ago. Practiced on one tire-very easy to install, or so it seems. Can't say anything yet about how they hold up, or performance. Seem to be well made. This 5 star rating is mostly for the customer service I received from etrailer. It was fantastic. Would highly recommend them.

I might give a 5 rating once I see how they work in real snow/ice. We bought these - just in case we needed them. We haven’t yet used them in actual snow conditions as the little snow we get around sea level near Seattle is easily handled by the all-wheel drive car. The tire chains arrived on time. We tried them on in the garage and they were easy to install and appear to be well made - sturdy. They are very easy to install. It took just minutes and if you put down some cardboard, you likely won’t get wet & dirty. I’ve put on a lot of standard chains on many vehicles large and small and know it’s usually a cold, wet, dirty job. We refreshed our installation practice again late this Fall-2021 before a trip over the mountains to get our kid from college before Thanksgiving. Once again super easy to install. We go over the mountains with great confidence we can chain up quickly if needed.

Product is quality made with good instructions and nice and right sized rigid storage case. Suggest one “dry run install” in garage or driveway a couple of times so the first time your putting them on IS NOT on the side of the road in a snow storm. Overall pleased with the Snow Tire Chains and delighted, as usual, with etrailer’s Customer Service. I would buy these Tire Chains again.

I love these chains, and etrailer is the best! As a 69 yr old retired grandma, I work part-time at a ski resort. A few weeks ago, we were expecting 8-10 inches of snow/ice and I was scheduled to work. So, I put these idiot-proof, color-coded, self-adjusting chains on my Highlander front low profile tires and waited for weather. See photo. I worked my full shift, came out to ice/snow in dark, and drove safely home. Oh, and the carrying case comes with a folded plastic sheet, but with my old knees I added a foam pad!

Installation was as easy as is shown with the videos. However, the trick is removing them. Somewhat more difficult. Still, very pleased with their performance. I'm glad I spent the money for the higher quality chains.

Finally got to use these chains after owning them for 12 months. They were fairly easy to use and made a huge difference when driving down a snow-covered dirt road. Without out them we would have been stranded. Being self-tensioning made fitting really easy. Worth the money.
Review from a similar XG12 Pro in Tire Chains
Bought the chains for my wife's Volvo XC70 and a winter cross country trip last January. Needed them on I-5 between California and Oregon. They worked great. Practiced installing and removing them in the garage before the trip. Installing the chains in the snow was quick and easy. Appreciated the self tensioning feature. Found out the hard way, though, that removing the chains is only easy if the wheel/tire is in the same position relative to the road as when the chains were installed. Easier said than done when it's raining and the wind is blowing up a storm after crossing the snowy mountain pass. Now we know to pack a crayon with the chains so we can mark the top of the tire after installing them, know to drive forward or back to again put the mark on top when it's time to remove them. Otherwise you end up with tensioning cables wrapped around brake calipers and lots of cussing.

etrailer is a great option for your trailer/vehicle needs. I needed tire chains in a short timeframe. etrailer customer service provided great service - both on product advice and facilitating timely shipment that enabled our trip. The videos they have on their website are extremely informative in helping you choose the right product for your need.

I'm an etrailer fan. Buttt...I took me over an our to get this item installed. Turned out the chains were twisted in a way that took myself and my wife half an hour to fix. The pictoral instructions were not good enough. A thorough description in English would really have been helpful.

The snow chains were delivered very quickly, arrived in perfect sealed condition. The chains literally installed on each tire of my 2019 pickup truck within 2 minutes. So easy, very solid construction, fit like a glove, and the kit came with replacement links, etc. Also, the chains were very to store back into the storage container.
Review from a similar XG12 Pro in Tire Chains
Very high tech- make sure you practice putting them on and off at least once or twice before getting into the snow and inclement weather!! One tip for taking them off- make sure the main cable connection is at the top-same as when you put them on. I did not do this the first time, and chains got caught on the brake caliper-very hard to remove then. Keeping the configuration the same as installation keeps everything in place.

Outstanding service! With an upcoming trip and recent snow storm etrailer helped me get my snow chains just in time for our vacation. Without the chains I would have been screwed. Communication with this company is impressive. The original chains I ordered would not have arrived in time and the sales team called me right away to find alternative solutions. Chains for 315/35/20 size tires are not easy to find. Really happy with my purchase. Thank you.

Just finished dry fitting these chains on rear of my Chevy Silverado 1500 LT 4 x 4. Before doing so I watched a couple of available videos on etrailer.com. Installation went very well; chains fit tight and secure without difficulty. Quality of product appears to be in line with pricing. Chains shipped from Missouri on time and without delays.

I figured I would not need these chains. I had snow tires on the van but bought these to be safe. My 2wd van couldn't make it up a steep mountain but once I added the chains I was able to make my way up the mountain. They do take some practice putting on and the chains seem to get snagged behind the tires as you are trying to position everything but with practice it gets a little easier.

I can’t believe how fast they shipped my snow chains! Everything came as described. Thank u so much!
