Video Transcript for Hands-On with the Americana Rubber, Snap-In Valve Stem

Today we're going to review part number AM20903. This is the rubber snap-in valve stem with the maximum pressure of eighty PSI and the effective length of one and a quarter inches long. These tubeless rubber snap-in valves stems are designed for passenger car, light duty trailer, and light truck wheels. These valves will allow a cold air tire inflation pressure on the tire of a maximum of sixty-five PSI. These are typically used in steel wheels. These snap-in valve stems have a rubber snap-in base with the plastic cap that goes over the valve.

The effective length on the valve stem is always measured once it's installed in the wheel, so basically where it comes through the wheel to the very top of the cap. On this one the effective length, if we measure, it's going to be right at one and a quarter inches. That should do it for the review on part number AM20903, the rubber snap-in valve stem with the maximum eighty PSI rating and the inch and a quarter inch effective length. .

  • Can I Determine the psi Rating of a Wheel
Since wheels will be able to withstand the psi rating of any of the tires that are meant to fit it you will need to look at the valve stem as that is the deciding factor. If your valve stem has the rubber all the way up to the threads, like part # AM20903, then it will be rated around 65 psi. If there is some reinforcement between the rubber and the threads, like part # AM20904 or # AM20907, then your valve stem can be rated between 80 and 100 psi. The only valve stems that are rated for...

  • Should 205/75-15 Bias Trailer Tires be Replaced With Radial Trailer Tires for Highway Driving
I highly recommend switching from bias trailer tires to radial trailer tires for highway travel. The reason for that is radial trailer tires are designed for use on normal paved roads and highways because they flex more and run cooler than bias tires. The cords on a radial tire run at a 90 degree angle straight across the tire while the cords on a bias tire run at a 32 degree angle. That leads to the better flexing, traction and ground contact with a radial tire. A bias tire is best for...

  • Do Tire Valve Stems Come Included with Tires That Are Purchased Unmounted
Tires that are sold alone, not pre-mounted on a rim/wheel, do not include valve stems but we do offer these as separate items. Tires that are pre-mounted and sold with a rim/wheel do of course include the valves. I have linked you to the various parts available, which include both metal and rubber types and in various psi ratings, such as # AM20906.

  • Recommended Replacement Wheels for 5 on 5 Bolt Pattern
Thank you for the photo of your old wheel. That is extremely helpful in this case.To answer your main question, the measurement of the bolt pattern is going to be the most important factor in replacing the wheels on your trailer. The hub bore dimension won't be an important consideration since most wheels now are lug centric-meaning that they're centered and supported by the lug studs on your wheel. With that being said, it looks like you have an old Dexstar 17-384 wheel that has a 5...

  • The Max PSI for Trailer Wheels Versus Tire Max PSI
The max psi rating is specific to each tire as it is tested, so you cannot simply increase tire pressure to get a higher speed rating or increase weight capacity. Your tires could overheat or wear quickly because they are not designed for that pressure rating. Overheating is the number one cause of tire failure including blow outs and it is almost always due to improper inflation or traveling over the speed rating of the tire. • Trailer Tire and Rim Pressure Capacities and Correct Inflation
In a trailer tire the limiting factor for PSI pressure is usually the valve stem. Different valve stems handle different pressures. Some rubber stems like # AM20903 are good to 65-psi while others like # AM20904 are good to 80-psi or to 100-psi as with # AM20907. Metal stem # AM20906 can handle pressure up to 200-psi. Usually a rim itself will handle any pressure required by the tire sizes that fit it. Any trailer tire will be able to meet its maximum weight load rating only when inflated...
