The NitroFill inflation process filters out oxygen to ensure that this tire-and-wheel assembly is filled with 95 to 99.9 percent pure nitrogen. Nitrogen-inflated tires maintain pressure better than tires inflated with standard air. This makes them ideal for RVs and trailers that are driven infrequently or sit in storage for long periods of time. Other benefits of consistent tire pressure are better fuel economy, improved braking and handling, decreased chance of tire failure, and longer tire life.
A tire inflated with standard air, which contains oxygen, is prone to fluctuations in pressure due to loss of air over time and ambient temperature changes. Nitrogen-inflated tires don't experience these fluctuations for a couple reasons. First, nitrogen molecules are larger than oxygen molecules, so they are less likely to permeate a rubber tire. Second, nitrogen is a dry gas, so it won't allow condensation to build inside the tire. A tire inflated with standard air may have moisture in it, which means it is more likely to be affected by ambient temperature.
In addition, the moisture that can collect in a tire inflated with standard air will contribute to corrosion of the wheel and deterioration of the rubber tire from the inside out. A nitrogen-inflated tire-and-wheel assembly is less likely to experience this type of decay. Less moisture in the tire also means reduced running temperatures.
If necessary, you can top off the tire with standard compressed air. But to maintain the benefits of nitrogen, the tire must be refilled with nitrogen.
The stud holes on this steel wheel are beveled to ensure that the wheel stays tight against your trailer hub. This also eliminates the need to constantly retorque the lug nuts.
This radial ply tire from Goodyear is constructed with double steel belts and triple polyester cords for increased durability. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation and an inner liner made out of halobutyl rubber reduces air loss.
This Goodyear Endurance tire was built with Durawall technology, which is used on a lot of Goodyear's light truck tires for severe, heavy-duty use. This technology consists of a rubber compound that reinforces the sidewall to help prevent cuts, punctures, and other damage. Furthermore, the tire has a scuff guard, which is the raised strip of rubber on the sidewall. This protects the tire from abrasion if you hit a curb.
And unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the automotive-grade tread on these Goodyear Endurance tires has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. This greatly improves traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.
The tread also consists of decoupling grooves that run along the outer edges of the tire. These grooves help evenly distribute the pressure that is put on the tire from contact with the road. When this happens, the grooves wear out faster than the surrounding tread, which minimizes irregular wear, especially when you're towing. Additionally, these outer edges usually heat up more quickly than the rest of the tire, and these decoupling grooves help keep it cool.
Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.
Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Goodyear Endurance ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire in a Load Range E mounted on this 15 inch Silver Modular Steel Trailer Wheel with the 6 on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now, this tire-and-wheel assembly is ideal for RVs, for stock trailers, utility trailers, and even campers. The wheel on this as a nice steel wheel, has the modular design, when we say modular design, that's the one that has the round holes all the way around the wheel, that way it's very sturdy and corrosion resistant. The wheel does use a three step finishing process, which includes a nice phosphate zinc bath, an e-coat primer, and then a nice silver powder coat on the front of the wheel. Now, this wheel does use the ITR technology, wanna zoom in and show you what we're talking about, but basically what that technology is, it's Improved Torque Retention, helps keep your wheel securely in place on your trailer, and basically what they do is they use these uncoated stud holes here that are beveled to offer better clamp force retention, prevents the holes from elongating or wearing down, and it holds your wheel better to your trailer.
Now, the tire on this is a Goodyear Endurance Radial Trailer Tire, it is constructed with double steel belts, triple polyester cords for a nice long life. This Goodyear trailer tire is made in the USA. It is great for highway use, does use a nylon tread firming belt overlay to help prevent tread separation, does have the optimized tread depth and the decoupling groove design on the tread, helps the tire to remain cool while towing heavy loads. They do use a specialized 100% halobutyl rubber inner liner, which will minimize air loss in a trailer application. Does use the Durawall technology, helps resist sidewall cuts and punctures, and they even have a little raised area, that's a scuff guard, helps provide additional sidewall protection.
Now, this tire is a nitrogen filled tire, and the way you can tell that is if you look at the valve stem, it has a green valve cap on it, that designates that this is filled with nitrogen. This will help maintain tire pressure longer than standard air, helps prolong the life of the tire and the wheel. Now the tire itself is an ST tire, which stands for special trailer tire design, it'll couple the strength of a bias tire with the durability and stability of a radial tire, and it is created specifically for trailers, it's not intended for use on any other vehicles. This whole assembly does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation Specifications. And to go over a few specs on this, we'll start with the wheel, the diameter of just the wheel is 15 inch diameter, the width on the wheel by itself is six inches wide.
The bolt pattern on this we've mentioned is a 6 on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern, and if you wanna measure that, it's pretty simple on a wheel that has an even number of lugs, in this case six, 'cause the lug holes are right across from each other. So if you wanna measure, all you have to do is pick a lug hole, let's say this one, measure from the center of that lug hole to the center of the lug hole right across from it. On this, it'll measure 5 1/2 inches, so it's a 6 on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern. The wheel does use the wheel lug size of 1/2 inch by 20, weight capacity on just the wheel by itself is 2,860 pounds, and the pilot hole diameter, this large hole here in the center of the wheel, goes over the hub on your trailer, diameter of this opening is 4.27 inches. Now, if you noticed, this wheel does not come with the center cap, if you do want a center cap, we do sell those separately on our website, you do wanna make sure to get one that has a diameter of the 4.27 inches.
Now, the tire size, which will be stamped on the sidewall, ST for special trailer, 225/75R15, the R means radial tire. Section width on this is 8.7 inches, overall diameter from the bottom to the top when it's inflated is 28.3, this tire is a Load Range E, which means it's a 10 ply rated tire, so it has a maximum load capacity of 2,830 pounds at 80 psi. And the last thing I do wanna mention, most all the new trailer tires are coming through with a speed rating on them, and if we'll find the speed rating, it'll be stamped with a letter designation. So right down here, along the wheel, you'll see the tire size again and you'll see two numbers for the load index, and then at the very end is the letter N. Speed rating N will mean this has an 87 mile per hour speed rating. But that should do it for the review on this Goodyear Endurance ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire in a Load Range E mounted on this 15 inch Silver Modular Steel Trailer Wheel with the 6 on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern..
